The aims of this project are to ensure that the Mara remains a valuable source of income for the country and to increase local community involvement in the tourism process. Additionally, the project aims to monitor and research some of Africa's most endangered wildlife, and in partner with a Big Cat Monitoring project volunteers will help monitor the movement of prides of lions, leopards and cheetahs within the conservancy, as well as the interaction between lions and the local communities.

A Rare Encounter with Nature’s Raw Reality
February 04, 2026by: Amalia Constantina TofanFor sure it would be getting to witness a hunt in the wild, not once but twice by the same Cheetah in the span of 3 days. It brought me face to face with the well known “circle of life”. I dare to say the second hunt was easier to watch, I was more content with the events unfolding. I still struggle to find the words that can capture the magic behind witnessing that. It honestly felt like I went hunting together with that cheetah, like we were partners. Definitely goes in the bucket of once in a lifetime chance and I am forever grateful for this experience.
Living at the College in Kenya
January 29, 2026by: Kathy AndersonBy living at the College in Kenya, I was able to interact with the Massai students and staff. I felt I was part of the Community. I also learned a lot as a member of the Big Five Research Team. It was a great experience.
Adventure of a lifetime
May 20, 2025by: Amalia Tofan - RomaniaI absolutely loved my time on this project. You get to be so close to wild animals, in their natural environment. the ecosystem is thriving in the Maasai Mara so you can expect to see lots of them, all the time. My favourite wildlife encounters, ranked: Cheetah successful hunt, 2 male giraffes fighting over a female, lion pride taking a morning walk and cubs playing. Of course there are many more but these were the most special. On top, the local team staff was amazing, I really bonded with the project coordinator and can proudly say we are now friends. :)
Hey Amalia. Thank you so much for sharing this! It sounds like you had an incredible experience, and wow, what an amazing list of wildlife encounters! A cheetah hunt and giraffes fighting over a female? That’s straight out of a nature documentary. We're so glad you felt a connection not just with the animals but also with the team, it’s those bonds that really make a volunteer trip special. We'll pass on your kind words to the coordinator too, they’ll be thrilled! :) - GoEco Team
