Calling all med students and young doctors! Here’s your chance to make a huge impact for a small community in the Peruvian Amazon whilst experiencing the highs and lows of providing healthcare in a developing country. This program places you with a conservation-focused nonprofit that works to create long-lasting change in our relationship with the Amazon by uplifting the communities that live there. Their aim is to create new job opportunities in Puerto Inca that don’t rely on destruction of the rainforest - help to break the cycle of poverty, reduce the need for activities like logging and illegal mining - whilst incentivising sustainable development. The NGO works to improve the region’s infrastructure and healthcare, consequently supporting tourism. You'll help provide medical support to a remote healthcare center struggling with overcrowding, poor infrastructure, and limited resources. Depending on level of experience and qualifications, there is a wide range of departments that you could work on - general medicine, obstetrics, nursing, psychology, odontology, pharmaceuticals, or lab work - doing incredibly valuable work that is equally challenging and rewarding.

We are looking for volunteers and interns with creative teaching ideas, such as playing games, singing, storytelling, acting, etc. The focus should be on developing curiosity about other cultures and experiencing language as a communication tool and part of a culture. You can also organize workshops, such as football matches, arts and crafts, environmental education, and drama. The idea is to connect new language abilities with positive emotions. Our organization provides free English and German lessons for children, teenagers, and adults. Therefore, everybody can participate in our community. We combine language lessons with environmental education, believing it helps the younger generations have better life opportunities. We deliver the Teaching Program with our Kids Explorer Program, a holistic approach focusing on environmental education and the social integration of local kids. On weekdays, you can lead workshops and teach ways to save the environment, and then on weekends, you can take the kids (together with staff members) on fun activities in the rainforest.
Vive Peru

Local children are able to attend school, considering Trujillo’s public school system. But the quality of education, especially arts, is low and limited. And while a study has shown the importance of extracurricular activities in preventing involvement with gangs and crime among at-risk kids, the lack of funds makes it almost impossible for public schools to sustain music programs. As a result, only a few children or adults have the privilege to learn to play an instrument, and a huge percentage of the population has little to no knowledge of classical music. As a volunteer of Vive Peru’s music program, you will help address this issue. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with the staff of Trujillo’s Youth Orchestra, organizing workshops with kids and youth from various economic backgrounds. This program is especially suitable if you are studying music, with specialization in musical instruments like the flute, cello, violin, or viola. If you are interested in working with music students but are not specializing in this field, please contact us to discuss how you might be able to best serve the community.
