After my time at the Amazon Rainforest in Ecuador it would be hard to say that my views and concerns about environmental issues were not somehow changed by my experience. Living in the rainforest was an incredibly unique undertaking, and an unbelievable adventure! I spent most of my time in the rainforest reserve, where my duties included clearing and planting trees, learning about medicine plants, patrolling the region, and wildlife watching. Working in the rainforest was definitely the best part of my trip. New opportunities kept arising all the time, and I even had a pet pig to care for everyday! You definitely have to make the most of your time here. Most people spoke Spanish, so try and brush up on the language before you arrive - then again, the daily Spanish classes in the city are great and come with extra activities like Salsa Dancing! In your free time, you can take part in volcano climbing and biking in Quito, and if your Spanish is any good you can even teach English in the local schools. If you like animals, have an interest in the rainforest and its culture, and are desperate to experience something completely different, then this placement is ideal.
