This program has a lot to offer: hands-on experience in a range of NGO management work, expert mentorship, meaningful work helping underprivileged children, and a stunning location to travel to and work from. Travel to Peru and work with an NGO dedicated to enabling children in rural areas to improve their future through education. They work with numerous local projects and schools to reach children in disadvantaged areas affected by social issues like prevalent alcoholism, poor access to quality education, and a lack of interest from public officials. Through their work they help these children to fulfill their personal and educational goals and broaden their horizons. Another important aspect of their work is the incorporation of international volunteers which aims to promote cultural awareness in these remote areas and endow a global mindset. Your role will be to assist with the overall management of the organization. This means you’ll have a great variety of work day-to-day. Your biggest responsibilities will be measuring impact and developmental progress through surveys and reports, raising awareness through marketing, and raising funds to keep the organization going.

Lima, the capital of Peru, is located on the west coast of the Pacific along the Rímac River. This large, international city balances both modern and traditional influences, which evolved from Peru's history as the home of the Inca and numerous other civilized cultures dating back as far as 2000 BC. Opportunities vary from rehabilitating marine life to working with disabled or at-risk youth to creating environmental protection campaigns. By partnering with community-based organizations and following a structured, reflection-based curriculum, you will learn how local experts address these issues with available resources while developing intercultural and leadership skills in a real-world context. Each of our community-based organizations is unique, so visit our website to learn more about your options. Although all our programs are great, we especially recommend Lima for students who are interested in marine biology or human rights.

Volunteer abroad in Cusco, the enchanting ‘belly button’ of the Inca civilization and the main doorway to Machu Picchu - one of the world’s greatest wonders. With its narrow, cobblestone streets, Inca stonework, and women in ancient dress, you will forget you are living in the 21st century. But the real charm and the challenge come from the orphans with whom you will be working. Globe Aware offers diverse opportunities to volunteer in Cuzco, including working in a home for impoverished children from rural households. Many of these kids come from families who are too poor to care for them. Without this home or "albergue," these children would have no educational opportunities. Other service vacation projects include improvements and maintenance to facilities, such as painting classrooms, creating a garden, or constructing desks and beds. The children attend a public school in Cuzco during the day, but you will have ample opportunities to work directly with them after classes and on weekends. You may also visit a local family to construct a Lorena stove.

The HELP English Coordinator is one of our Project Coordinator roles at OCN. You will create the curriculum and lead weekly English classes for children at the Recreational Centre (REC) in Cerrito de la Virgen, as well as brief and supervise supporting volunteers. This is a hands-on role with significant exposure to Spanish, making it ideal for volunteers who speak the language or want to improve it. You will work under the supervision of the REC Coordinator and the Program Manager. The project requires only a few hours per week; the rest of your time you will volunteer across multiple projects. This may include English classes at local schools or the library, supporting various HELP projects (Youth, Literacy, Environment), Global Glow, REC homework sessions, helping at the dog shelter, playground renovation, or assisting with library inventory—totalling around 25 hours/week. This position is a great opportunity for those who want to work with children and gain insight into the NGO sector, while living in Huanchaco, a small surf town near Trujillo. All volunteer roles can also be taken as internships, with additional mentorship and support to meet any academic requirements.

Kawsay is a biological station located in the Peruvian Amazon, close to Puerto Maldonado. Staying with us will give you the opportunity to gain an inside look at how the forest is conserved and studied through training, monitoring, research, conservation programs, and specialized tours. We make research and conservation available for everyone. Don't be afraid to help out at a biological station. Of course, we work seriously, but we also believe that everyone can contribute in a certain way. Come and discover this beautiful forest as well as work in the field. Volunteers mostly assist in main projects and activities, including maintaining the conservation area, monitoring wildlife (e.g., behavioral studies, camera trapping, mammal transects, pitfall traps, phenology study), evaluating habitats (vegetation plots), and assisting researchers.
