'Quilla', pronounced 'Kiya', is the Quechuan word for moon—the symbol of a new beginning. Kiya Survivors aims to give just that. Through education, therapy, love, and laughter, we encourage new beginnings for children with disabilities or learning difficulties and living below the poverty line, from vulnerable homes. As a Kiya volunteer, you will have the opportunity to work in an eclectic environment in the coastal village, Mancora, supporting our Peruvian team in make a real difference to people. Kiya is looking for enthusiastic individuals, groups, & families to join us in Peru & help hands-on in our projects. Whether you support our work by volunteering your time as a social media manager helping increase our audience and online presence; developing your skills further by shadowing our trained therapists or help organize parent/family workshops or kids fun days, have the assurance your skills are useful and will have a direct & positive impact on the children & families we are supporting along with the local communities we work in. We are looking for volunteers and interns with creative teaching ideas, such as playing games, singing, storytelling, acting, etc. The focus should be on developing curiosity about other cultures and experiencing language as a communication tool and part of a culture. You can also organize workshops, such as football matches, arts and crafts, environmental education, and drama. The idea is to connect new language abilities with positive emotions. Our organization provides free English and German lessons for children, teenagers, and adults. Therefore, everybody can participate in our community. We combine language lessons with environmental education, believing it helps the younger generations have better life opportunities. We deliver the Teaching Program with our Kids Explorer Program, a holistic approach focusing on environmental education and the social integration of local kids. On weekdays, you can lead workshops and teach ways to save the environment, and then on weekends, you can take the kids (together with staff members) on fun activities in the rainforest.

In this role, you will work under the supervision of the Program Manager to handle all things related to our Recreational and Educational Centre (REC) in Cerrito de la Virgen, a neighbouring settlement. You will be responsible for coordinating our Huanchaco Education and Learning Programmes (HELP) at the REC, and helping to manage the four HELP Project Coordinators (English, Environment, Youth, and Literacy). You will assist the HELP coordinators with planning and updating their respective curriculums, as well as communicating with local parents, ensuring the implementation of our safeguarding policy, flagging up any maintenance issues, and monitoring the progress of the HELP projects. To broaden our impact, you will also participate in outreach work to connect with more families in nearby communities, helping us to better understand the needs of the community and promote our services. The role of REC Coordinator is a great opportunity for those who want to gain project management experience and get an insight into the workings of grassroots NGO projects, but is better suited to individuals who already have some form of leadership or management experience.
