Unique and unforgettable
July 17, 2025by: Matthew Lock - EnglandProgram: Teach in Thailand 2026 | Paid Role & Non-B Visa Sponsorship
I went from working a dead end job to teaching English at a high school in Thailand in the blink of an eye, all arranged and supported by the Kids English Thailand team. All I had to do was book a flight, provide some documents, and smile and nod. Orientation week was great, it's nice to be part of a group of people who are all going through the same experience. Unfortunately things didn't work out for me due purely to personal issues that were effecting my health. A nightmare scenario, being all the way in Thailand, as you can probably imagine. However, Matthew and the team at KET were more than understanding and supportive throughout the whole ordeal of me deciding it was best for me to leave. And that's all you can ask for. Sometimes things work out and sometimes they don't, for a variety of reasons. But having a team of professionals supporting your every move as a stranger in a foreign land sure makes things a lot easier, no matter what the outcome of your journey is. To summarise, as someone who didn't have the 'dream' experience of teaching English in Thailand, I am very grateful to have had the KET team supporting me every move from start to finish.
First time teaching

It was not an easy choice to go teach abroad when the opportunity beckoned but KET’s team made it less stressful than it could have been. They took care of all administrative tasks. All that was left to me was to just fly there and get to work. I thank them for making the process so easy. The team also tries to place teachers in schools together and that helps a lot with social life as you get to meet other foreign teachers just like you, so you are not alone. Thai culture was fascinating to me as it is completely different from what I was used to in Europe. The people are very respectful and keen on helping you if you are ever in trouble. It may be harder to breach the language barrier at first but if you are also polite and approachable, then you will be fine. The students were such a joy inside and outside the classroom. Due to their emphasis on showing respect, it was rare that I had to deal with troublesome students and even so, I didn’t have to do much to calm them down and resume the lesson. As long as you make your lessons interesting, you’ll be completely fine. Don’t forget that while you are expected to mold into their customs and culture, you are also a foreign teacher so share your own culture and don’t be afraid to show them different approaches that they are not used to. They will appreciate your effort. In terms of living in Thailand, it was way easier than I expected. I don’t even think I experienced culture shock but I was in wonderment during my entire time there. KET helped in finding affordable, comfortable and safe housing. The food was also really good and, as a spice lover, I still think back on the dishes I had over there. Regarding, healthcare, you will get your hospital card as soon as you go to your school and do your medical check. I had to visit the hospital a couple of times and the process was not only easy, but also fast. All in all, Thailand was like living in a dream, especially as someone who was at the beginning of their teaching career and had never lived abroad before. KET made that transition as smooth as possible, and if I were to return to teach in Thailand, it would definitely be through then again.

Reality altering experience

If you had told me at 12 years of age that one day I would be a teacher, I would have laughed you out the room but that's exactly what I became. Waking up early in the morning and planning lessons isn't usually someone's favourite part of the day but that was mine, teaching here in Thailand has offered me such a new lease on life I don't think I'll ever forget it.
Experience of a life time.

I was super fortunate with my placement, the school, my co-teacher and generally all the other expats in the city was super great. I gained life-long friends and adapted so well. Working with these people and living in Lampang has been the best 1.5 years of my life so far. I fell in love with Thailand and ended my contract to seek higher salary and new experiences, it’s very hit and miss whether you’ll settle in well or not, but i was lucky and will be forever grateful.
One of my best ever experiences

Teaching in Thailand for the past eight months has been an incredible experience. The students are eager to learn, respectful, and full of energy, making each day in the classroom truly enjoyable. Their curiosity and enthusiasm for education are infectious, creating a dynamic and engaging learning environment. The Thai culture, with its emphasis on kindness and respect, shines through in the students' attitudes and interactions. They are not only diligent but also warm-hearted, often going out of their way to make me feel welcome. Watching their progress over these months has been deeply fulfilling, and knowing that I’ve played a role in their growth is a privilege I’ll always cherish. Beyond the classroom, the support from colleagues, KET staff, and the local community has been exceptional. Teaching in Thailand has not only allowed me to share knowledge but also to grow personally and professionally. It’s an experience I’ll treasure forever!

An Authentic Rural Teaching Adventure!
April 11, 2025by: Oliver Barnett - United KingdomProgram: Teach in Thailand 2026 | Paid Role & Non-B Visa Sponsorship
I was approached for this opportunity through an agency in my home country, before being directed to Matthew and the KET Team. Throughout the onboarding experience they gave me a comprehensive understanding of what I could expect for the first few weeks of my time in Thailand. While at the KET offices in Sukhothai my needs were met, and the staff went beyond my expectations by recovering some laundry I had left behind in Bangkok on accident. (Blaming Jet Lag for that one!) Once my week's worth of training had passed, I was escorted to my school in Lamphun where the majority of my time was to be for the following seven months. If you are thinking that teaching in rural Thailand will be easy; you will be in for a rude awakening. While the staff at my school were receptive to my needs, I had to reach out for everything that I needed while on the job; you will get very few handouts without asking for assistance. English proficiency amongst the average Thai student and person will not be high for the vast majority, so expect to use a translation app to smooth over conversations where you have to in order to get by. Make sure to embrace Thai culture, and volunteer yourself for help where you are able so you can better get to know the people who can make your experiences either heaven or hell while you are there. It is an experience I would recommend only to those with an open mind and a spirit for adventure. If you are thinking you can coast by on ChatGPT generated PowerPoints while exploring, you won't last long. If you have a hard working spirit, an aim of getting into education as a full-time career, and boundless curiosity about foreign cultures I would give my full endorsement for working with Kids English Thailand as a Teacher. Good luck!

Please do not miss this opportunity!

If I am honest, I don’t even know if I can do this experience or the agency justice with words but I will try. I have had the most incredible, humbling and life affirming time teaching in Thailand. It has been such a pleasure to watch my students progress in the English language, and simultaneously it has been beautiful to learn so much from them; perhaps most significantly the art of gratitude. I personally cannot speak highly enough of Matthew and the KET team- Matthew works tirelessly to ensure that we all feel supported and he always provides a safe place for venting, no matter how personal or even unrelated to teaching the issue may be. We had an amazing time at the orientation week and met some amazing people whom we have continued to meet and explore areas of Thailand together. The agency strive for the success of their teachers and are passionate about helping the children of Thailand widen their horizons. I will be eternally grateful for this experience, an experience that wouldn’t have been possible without Matt and the team.

Teaching and Learning in Lampang
August 30, 2024by: Katherine Mack - United StatesProgram: Teach in Thailand 2026 | Paid Role & Non-B Visa Sponsorship
Overall, my experience as a high school teacher has been very good. Although there were challenging moments, I wouldn't change the circumstances of my experience for any reason. After arriving in Thailand and spending a week in Bangkok getting used to the climate and the time difference, it was off to Sukhothai for a week of orientation and teacher training. Safe and comfortable accommodations were only a hundred feet or so down the street from Kid's English - Thailand's (KET's) lounge, classrooms and offices. There was so much to absorb, but I was in good company with other foreign teachers, and KET's patient, knowledgeable and friendly staff were there to help us get adjusted. We went to a nearby shopping center for foodstuffs and supplies, then were able to store them in the lounge/cafeteria. Within 6 days of training and orientation, we had instruction in Basic Thai language (learning numbers, greetings, foods, etc), Thai culture, lesson planning, creating a curriculum and associated classroom activities, use of classroom technology, and the principles and responsibilities of being a teacher. We also participated in a one-day English Camp program for a local grade school. The week of orientation also included an excursion into Old Sukhothai where we visited beautiful public parks and the ruins of an ancient temple. We also stopped by a beautiful small resort and cafe situated next to a scenic rice field and enjoyed soft drinks, teas and coffees. KET staff coordinated meals and cooked lunch for us on several occasions - a tasty introduction to Thai food. Finally, with orientation finished, off I went to Lampang, a small city in the North that I had never heard of prior to my arrival in Thailand, but definitely a place that has grown on me ever since I've been living there. When time came to go over the border to get non-B residence visas and work permits, KET staff members were helpful in resolving any issues that came up and answering any questions. I'm a bit OCD when it comes to paperwork. I always like to make sure that all i's are dotted and all t's are crossed. KET staff understood, and they were willing to help. The process of getting to understand my Thai co-teachers and colleagues, and fitting into the system at my school as I learned the daily ins and outs of being there, was a bit daunting and frustrating at times. There were admittedly days that were a bit stressful. But KET staff, particularly Mr. Matthew John, always made time for me so I could iron things out in my mind. It was those conversations about how Thai people see the world and how they order their society that helped me to understand those inevitable moments of 'culture clash'. He listened with a sympathetic ear, but he was also careful to help me understand how they see situations through their eyes. This is always the toughest part of actually being immersed in a culture in daily life. Visiting is one thing, but depending on the social and physical infrastructure, both great and not-so-great, is quite another. Overall, I am grateful for KET assisting me in beginning this new chapter of my life as a teacher in a foreign country. I can't believe that I am almost at the end of my first-year contract with KET. Fortunately, they have helped me find placement in another school in Phichit, Central Thailand. People will often tell you that it's just as easy to find a teaching position without a placement agency. But now that I have made the leap to teach in a foreign country, I would advise anyone to use an agency such as KET for at least the first year or two, and longer if needed. It is better to have backup from an agency in case situations arise at your school. You have a network of people to listen to and properly advise you. In conclusion, I would definitely suggest partnering with Kids' English - Thailand if you choose to teach in Thailand. They bring years of experience in education and teaching, social and cultural knowledge and invaluable support to their recruits. Kru Kathy

Many workplaces in Thailand emphasize a good work-life balance. The work culture tends to be less intense than in some Western countries, allowing for more personal time and relaxation.Cultural Differences: Understanding and adapting to Thai work culture can take time. Hierarchy is important, and there may be different expectations around communication, decision-making, and conflict resolution compared to what you might be used to.

Healing in Thailand

My journey in Thailand has been both meaningful and healing, providing a refuge from the toxicity I faced in the Philippines. Being in a different environment allowed me to reconnect with myself, find peace, and grow personally and professionally. I got a job here as a teacher, and for me as I am moving forward, I hope everything goes more smoothly and hoping that my working environment would be more open and considerate, could consolidate, listen to concerns, and could implement workshops or strategies that support collective growth and improvement not just for me, but to all.

KET are super helpful from the beginning and the communication is great - I would ask a question about visas or the school placement and would get I reply within hours despite the time difference. Apart from the visa application they help you with getting accommodation sorted and ensure you get comfortable living in your new city. I’ve been placed in a small city and the living costs are low so I’m able to travel and do many things as well as save money. Overall it’s been a good experience!
