Begin in Tucson, Arizona, near a major U.S. entry point, to learn what migrants face after crossing the border. Then travel to Oaxaca to study how economics, policy, and conflict affect migration patterns. In Mexico City, meet with organizations supporting migrants in transit, explore historical sites, and visit one of Latin America’s most important anthropological museums. Throughout, develop Spanish skills through coursework, homestays, and excursions. In this experiential, community-based program, students are immersed in various Mexican realities by meeting directly with people of diverse backgrounds, gaining essential skills for future academic and professional pursuits. This is an excellent program for those who need to meet General Education Requirements! A wide variety of courses offered includes a Biology course, fine arts, Spanish language, humanities, and social sciences. Based in Cuernavaca, Mexico, the program includes regional travel, homestay with local Mexican families, internships, and small group intensive Spanish study. CGEE programs are highly experiential by design. We like to get you out of the classroom and into the community! Our classes include guest speakers, trips to visit local groups, museums, businesses, and more. We also include fun excursions in the area to help you learn even more about the history, culture, and region!

Delve into site-specific subjects, in your choice of semester concentrations, to create positive social change. Based in Cuernavaca, the capital of the Mexican state of Morelos in central Mexico, these exciting semester programs offers coursework in Intercultural Communication and Media (for fall semester students) or Migration and Transnationality, along with liberal arts options (for fall and spring students). Fall program students can participate in the Communication and Media Studies concentration of Migration and Social Change in Mexico, which equips you for the challenge of today’s media. A focus on socially conscious, responsible journalism is garnered through meeting with traditionally marginalized by society, including migrants, deportees, immigrant returnees from the US, indigenous people, women, LGBTQ people, and others. Fall and Spring students can choose a concentration from the Liberal Arts, Migration, and Social Change program. Concentrations include Migration Studies; Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies; Liberal Arts; and Spanish Language.
