USAC Japan: Nishinomiya - Japanese and East Asian Studies

Nishinomiya is located near Osaka and Kobe. Osaka is known as Western Japan’s center of cultural exchange, trade, and finance. Kobe is situated strategically between the Rokko mountain range and the north shore of Osaka Bay. Both cities make for a beautiful setting to hone your knowledge of East Asia. The Nishinomiya program involves studies focused on Japan and its society, culture, and language. Broaden your understanding of East Asia as well through additional Korean or Chinese language and society study. For a semester or academic year, gain a better understanding of Japan’s (as well as its neighboring countries) religious, cultural, political, economic, and social aspects. Classes are small, a broad selection of activities on and off campus are available, and the homestay program is well-established. Featuring rich historical and cultural heritage amidst a diverse environment, Japan produces one of the world’s most distinctive societies. Explore the country academically, within the larger context of East Asia, through the Japan and East Asia Studies Program (JEASP) at the Kwansei Gakuin University.

It was amazing!

Studying abroad in Japan through USAC was honestly one of the best decisions I’ve made in college. Before going, I was excited but also nervous about the language barrier and whether I’d feel out of place, but USAC made the transition way smoother than I expected. From orientation to day-to-day support, it felt like there was always someone I could reach out to if I needed help.
