Chaos in the City of Kings
Submitted by Annie Bierbower - Fort Collins | November 05, 2013
The University is beautiful and calm, there are vendors outside and small eateries. There are plenty of places to eat and study and the other students are super helpful.
Be prepared for the city and commuting to the campus. Lima's population is as much a mystery as the city's many personalities. Estimates range from 9 million to 18 million and each block can seem like a different place. An average commute was around 30 to 40 minutes.
I recommend having a pretty thorough grasp of Spanish because classes are taught completely in Spanish and standards are rather high. Professors are helpful and they have awesome class selection though. I took an archeology class that included trips to museums and ruins!
Do not expect a ton of administrative support, you won't get it. Meetings are hard to set up and that's if you can find who you are even supposed to meet with. There aren't many events set up for exchange students specifically, but there are tons of extracurriculars and events on and around campus so it is easy to meet people and get involved.
The first day of the semester was kicked off with an all afternoon dance contest and cultural festivals and vendors set up on campus often.
