A Life-Changing Experience That I’ll Cherish Forever
by: Olivia Cosgrove - United StatesProgram: TEAN - Australia - University of New South Wales, SydneyStudying abroad in Sydney, Australia was one of the most transformative experiences of my life. From the moment I arrived, Sydney lived up to every expectation and dream I had for my abroad experience. Waking up just minutes from the beach, exploring the iconic Opera House, and taking weekend trips to some of the most breathtaking places in the world made every day feel surreal. Studying at UNSW challenged me academically while also allowing me the flexibility to travel weekly and enjoy everything my host city had to offer. While many people don't expect it, there was a bit of a culture shock with the Aussie slang and slower pace of life. Engaging with locals and other international students made the experience so meaningful and transformational. I will never forget the amazing Australians who welcomed me with open arms and showed me what Australia was all about. Looking back at my four months in Australia, this experience shaped me into a more confident, independent, and open-minded person. Studying abroad pushed me beyond my comfort zone and gave me a new perspective of the world. I will always be grateful for this experience.
Once in a lifetime experience.
by: Ryan Childress - United StatesProgram: TEAN - Australia - Bond University, Gold CoastI decided to study abroad in Australia due to the environment and how different all the plants and animals are from the rest of the world. TEAN allowed me to not only go abroad but discover all sorts of amazing things in both the environment and in social settings as well. Being able to go to North Stradbroke Island was incredible and set an amazing tone for the rest of my time abroad. Not to mention the orientation in Cairns. I got to cross two things off my bucket list in the first week of being in Australia: seeing the Great Barrier Reef and skydiving! I got to meet people from all over the world during my time in the Gold Coast, as well as make lifelong friends with locals. The people there are so incredibly friendly, it would a challenge to not make friends while there. I absolutely loved my experience, and it has left me with the desire to go back as soon as I can.

Best semester yet!
by: Emily Rutherford - United StatesProgram: TEAN - Australia - Bond University, Gold CoastMy semester at Bond University in Australia was an incredible experience that combined learning, adventure, and personal growth. The small class sizes and supportive professors made it easy to stay engaged, and I loved how the coursework connected to real-world situations. Beyond academics, Bond’s location on the Gold Coast meant I could spend my free time exploring amazing beaches, trying new foods like kangaroo and crocodile, and soaking in Australia’s unique culture. I also had the chance to travel to places like Auckland, Sydney, Perth, Uluru, Cairns, and Melbourne which were unforgettable. Living abroad taught me so much about being adaptable, stepping out of my comfort zone, and seeing the world from a new perspective—all while making lifelong friends. If you’re thinking about studying abroad, I couldn’t recommend Bond University more!

What inspired you to travel abroad?
Honestly, the thought of living abroad had never even crossed my mind until I studied abroad. While I was at Bond University with TEAN, I also completed an internship with their International Admissions Office. My supervisor Kelsey (who would later work for TEAN too) was an American who studied abroad and then moved to Australia. Meeting her helped plant the idea (perhaps on a subconscious level) that I could make that move too. It wasn’t until I returned that I realized what an impact that experience had on me and that I wanted to return to Australia.

What inspired you to travel abroad?
I was a big old nerd. Not only did I elect to take Latin as my foreign language, I was very active in my high school’s Latin Club or “Junior Classical League” (for those in the know). When the opportunity arose to tour Italy with my Latin teacher and a group of my peers, I begged and pleaded until my parents let me go. I haven’t stopped exploring since!

What inspired you to travel abroad?
I wish I could say that I chose Germany with some academically critical, highly interesting reason. However, the simple fact of the matter is that my best friend was studying German and she wanted to go on a faculty-led program over the summer, and told me she wanted me to go with her. So, I went. At that point in my life, it was the only way I would have gone abroad, was the perfect first step for me, and led to spending years abroad, traveling all over the place, and getting into this field.
