<h3>What inspired you to work for St. Stephen's School?</h3>
<p>I was inspired to join the leadership at St. Stephen's School in Rome, Italy, because of our one-of-a-kind academic programs, such as the Dr. Helen Pope Lyceum for Greek and Roman Studies, and our strong tradition of faculty-led study programs for students and alumni that are local, national, and international.</p>

<h3>Describe a typical day at work.</h3>
<p>A typical day for me involves designing creative academic programs for students and adults, collaborating with my colleagues, and developing activities that inspire curiosity and social growth. I balance planning, research, and student engagement to ensure each program is both impactful and enjoyable.</p>
<h3>Why do you do what you do?</h3>
<p>As Director of Summer Programs at St. Stephen's School,  my role is to advance education through the creation of innovative Summer Programs in Classical Studies and Language that give students the opportunity to develop their academic and social skills, and to help prepare them for their future studies.</p>
<h3>What is your favorite part of your job?</h3>
<p>My favourite part of my job is the opportunity to design novel summer programs that both challenge and inspire bright young minds. Each year, I get to imagine new ways of bringing learning to life—going beyond traditional academics and creating experiences that encourage curiosity, collaboration, and creativity. This process is deeply rewarding because it allows me to combine careful planning with innovation, blending rigorous intellectual content with activities that build confidence and social connection.</p>
<h3>How do you use your education and international background in your current role?</h3>
<p>I draw on my academic education, as well as 30 years of experience working across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the United States, to design innovative summer programs that blend academic rigor with global perspectives, fostering curiosity, collaboration, and cross-cultural understanding among bright, motivated students.</p>

<h3>What challenges do you often face, and how do you overcome them?</h3>
<p>The biggest challenge I face is increased educational competition in the summer program space, which motivates me to design increasingly innovative and engaging educational programs that best leverage our wonderful location in the historic heart of Rome, balancing academic rigor with fun, and adapting to diverse student needs.</p>
<h3>What are some current projects you are working on?</h3>
<p>I am currently planning a 2026 adult summer program in Rome, titled "Beyond the Ruins: Italy’s Evolving Culture of Cinema, Literature, Art, and Cuisine." This program will delve into Italy’s rich cultural, artistic, and culinary heritage, engaging participants in dynamic discussions and experiences.</p>
<h3>What advice would you give your pre-travel self?</h3>
<p>I would tell myself to be curious, open, and flexible because my plans will inevitably change, and that’s part of the travel journey. I would also encourage myself to take the time to connect with people, not just places. And pack lighter than you think you need, and trust that every challenge will turn into a great story worth remembering.</p>

<h3>What is your organization's mission, and how do you continue to work toward it?</h3>
<p>St. Stephen's School's mission is to foster academic excellence and personal growth in an international, multicultural environment, nurturing students into well-rounded, globally-minded individuals prepared for the next level of education and civic engagement. We are always improving our program offerings.</p>
<h3>What do you hope participants take away from your programs?</h3>
<p>The Summer Programs' motto is 'Learn, Thrive, Connect,' and we invite students to creatively engage with the academic subjects on offer and create meaningful connections with their fellow classmates, our faculty, and our beautiful city. The unique bonds formed while participating in Summer Programs are unlike any other, and the connections forged between participants who share a common connection make us proud.</p>
<h3>Why is it important for people to travel abroad and experience new cultures?</h3>
<p>Traveling abroad transforms people’s lives by exposing them to new cultures, languages, and ideas. It builds independence, adaptability, and global awareness while enhancing academic learning and career prospects. Experiencing the world firsthand broadens perspectives, fosters lifelong connections, and equips students with skills and confidence that textbooks alone cannot provide.</p>
<h3>What does meaningful travel mean to you?</h3>
<p>Meaningful travel to me is about more than sightseeing; it’s about learning, connecting, and growing. It means engaging deeply with new cultures, reflecting on my own experiences, and making a positive impact. Every journey becomes a chance to gain knowledge, create lasting memories, and return enriched in perspective, understanding, and personal growth.</p>

City of Rome
Multi-disciplinary study of ancient Rome, exploring its history, politics, art, archaeology, economy, geography, and environment, students examine Roman culture and society through monuments, museums, and primary sources, learning to interpret archaeology, art, and architecture as reflections of social, political, and religious life, with field trips and group work to enrich the learning experience. 

Latin 1
Introductory language course through modern, immersive methods, with grammar and vocabulary taught through readings to develop introductory-level understanding while exploring all aspects of ancient Rome.

A minimum CEFR B2 English level is sufficient
