FRIENDLINESS

Program: Entrepreneurship Internship in Cape Town - Empower SMBs

I'm particularly satisfied with the internship and the assignments found by Alzea, as I was able to deepen my skills and gain an insight into the professional world in the fields of marketing, communication and project management. - I was perfectly integrated into Kuba Technologies, a company in which I was able to make proposals and which listened to my ideas. - My biggest cultural surprise was the friendliness of South Africans in general, but especially of my colleagues during my internship. - In South Africa, I was seduced by the multitude of ever more impressive landscapes. - The biggest difficulty for me was the feeling of having to be constantly on my guard during my daily travels. - I'm satisfied with Alzea's support, and Nicky was a wonderful encounter. - After this experience, the friendliness of the locals and the magnificence of the landscapes will remain engraved in my memory.

Program: Internship in a World-Famous Cape Town Hospital

5

Hi, my name is Ritchie Bongers, a business student from Sittard, Netherlands. I came into contact through school with Nicky and Magister South Africa, and from the first online meeting until the end of my journey, it was an amazing experience. They helped me find the most incredible apartment and a dream internship at Groote Schuur Hospital’s Improvement Office alongside Garth Hankey, who is a world-class person—so smart and fun to work with. Besides the internship, Magister organized activities around Cape Town and even to Kruger. If you ever had questions or problems, Nicky was always there for you! One piece of advice: DO IT, best time of my life!

Program: Internship in a World-Famous Cape Town Hospital

4

Due to the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, I developed a bit of a connection with the country. I knew that if I ever had the opportunity to go to South Africa, I would seize that chance. For my studies, I had the opportunity from February to July 2022 to work on my mini-thesis in Cape Town. I still needed to find a suitable internship placement. For that, I enlisted the help of Magister. During a Skype conversation with Nicky, I discussed my interests with her. As a result, Nicky was able to arrange an internship for me at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town. I worked in the Business Improvement team, focusing on process optimization within the hospital. In addition to helping me secure an internship, Magister also assisted with obtaining a visa and finding a fantastic accommodation. I regularly participated in various activities with other young people who came through Magister, such as hiking, kayaking, and also partying! Through these experiences, I also formed lasting friendships. I still meet up with my Dutch friends, whom I met in Cape Town, about once a month. Magister made this incredible experience possible for me, and for that, I am eternally grateful to Michael and Nicky from Magister!

Cape Town in general was a great experience as a young student it was truly life changing. I loved every bit of it, the proximity to nature coupled with the modernity of the city was really nice and being able to hike or hang out at the beach after work was really comforting. Nicky from Magister was available at all times for any request and really helped me accommodate to the city. ZEMP Leathers was also a great company, everyone was really nice and I had a great time working with them.

My stay in Cape Town was truly a life-changing experience. From the moment I arrived, Magister made sure I felt welcomed and prepared for my stay. The organizers were very supportive and organized my accommodation and work place which exceeded my expectations in every way. I loved my host family and role as a teacher assistant and child care worker. I connected with locals and other volunteers from around the world and built friendships that I will cherish forever. I would highly recommend this program to anyone looking to make a positive impact while exploring one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Cape Town’s breathtaking beauty left an indelible mark on my heart so that I hope to return someday!

Very good preparation. Whenever there were questions, there was always a quick response and the supervisors always responded immediately. Furthermore, there was a lot to do with the Magister at the beginning of my stay, but during the summer time there was actually nothing more to do. There are also fun activities that allow you to meet other people.

I spent five months in cape town for my internship. It was the five best months of my life thanks to Magister! Magister helped me with everything, for example, arranging housing, finding an internship and arranging my visa. Going to the other side of the world on my own was quite exciting at first. But because of the warm welcome we received from Magister, those tensions were quickly gone! Also, Magister organizes really fun activities every week! You get to know a lot of new fellow students. The activities were always super well organized. If you arrange your trip/traineeship through Magister, you are guaranteed a great time in South Africa. A big thanks to them!

Interning in South Africa with Magister was the best thing I ever did!

Nicky and Magister in general were so helpful with coming to South Africa as an intern. It was my first time traveling this far from home, but with the amazing support of Magister I never felt homesick or anything. It really felt like the warmest welcome. Everything from choosing my house, to getting picked up from the airport, to all the fun activities that were organized. Magister is great if you want the freedom to explore and choose your own experience, with the guidance of some Capetonian experts. I would absolutely recommend interning in South Africa with Magister: at your own risk though, cause you might never want to leave :)

4

My internship with Magister has been the best of the best. Since the first moment, even before departure, Magister organization ensured that my experience would run as smooth as possible. The support they gave me was constant, priceless and very pleasant. Magister helped me with all range of topics including the flight, landing pick-up, accomodation, offered me a range of professional opportunities for me to choose from, and organized interesting social events often which enhanced my total experience with them. I would definetly recommend Magister to everyone.

A wonderful first experience !

Program: Wine Marketing Internship South Africa

4

Thanks to Magister, I had the chance to come to South Africa for my first trip on my own. I was able to talk to Nicky, a radiant and competent woman, who helped me from the beginning to the end of my stay. She was the one who found my work placement, my accommodation and accompanied me during my first days. If you need anything, she will always be there to help you. For example, the first room I chose in my shared flat had a faulty door, so I asked Nicky to help me as I wasn't very comfortable in English yet. And she solved the problem very quickly ! Throughout your stay, the Magister team offers a range of activities with other people who live in the town. Which is perfect if you want to meet new people. Personally, I was also able to travel on my own, and it was breathtaking ! Finally, concerning your work placement, you can rely on them. They offer you several options related to what you want to do, and then you choose the one you prefer. Then you'll probably have an interview and that's it !

This was one of the best experiences I had in my life : the internship in itself was good, the tasks didn’t interest me much but my coworkers were amazing; the accommodation (Bowden House) was okay, it was close to my company and the supermarket and I loved the neighbourhood, but the wifi wasn’t really working, we had to go buy electricity every now and then, and it didn’t have any AC so the whole place was very humid; but what makes the trip worth it was the people. I had lots of friends, and the city is wonderful : you can go hike, see the sunset, play beach volley in Camps bay, surf in Muizenberg, see the penguins, the dolphins, the whales, taste some wine, go out in bars for the fist Thursdays of every month and hop on a safari trip for the weekend. The two people that took care of us via Magister, Nicky and Michael, were really cool and offered a lot of activities so you can visit and meet other foreigners like you and make friends. I can’t recommend Cape Town enough as I fell in love with this city.

OMG! I started a migrant women movement at the other side of the world!!

Program: Internship with a Human Rights Organization in Cape Town

4

Okay, where to start... My time in Cape Town with the NGO Africa Unite (AU) taught me so many new things in ways I never expected. My internship at AU began as a true adventure in discovering myself and embracing a new culture and people. Starting an internship with an NGO is quite different from working in a typical profit-driven company. At an NGO, the focus is on providing benefits to others through support, joy, and health. I started my internship with eight amazing fellow interns from around the world, all of whom shared the same dedication to making a difference. Although the initial atmosphere was a bit stiff, our bond strengthened as we collaborated on activities and ideas. There was freedom to contribute and suggest new activities, but this required genuine initiative and courage to express oneself. Asking questions was crucial. In the second week of my internship, I received an unexpected assignment from my boss, Mr. Zoe. I had to collaborate with an external partner to launch a Migrant Women Movement, recruiting women, organizing missions, visions, weekly activities, meetings, and much more. It was a responsibility, and I took it very seriously. I engaged in recruiting migrant women, heard many stories, and met numerous new women, each with their unique experiences. Additionally, I expressed my interest in working with children in townships. Because I was proactive and attentive, I could assist in a school each week, helping children and supporting my colleagues. The balance between working with children and engaging in significant projects for AU was perfect for me. After three months, we brought together 50 women, named our initiative Tusiname Wane Wake (Power to the Women in Swahili), and secured a sponsor. This experience has greatly enhanced my sense of responsibility, social skills, patience, and acceptance of different communities. My internship at AU was a genuine adventure with its ups and downs. I formed wonderful friendships and experienced incredible moments. I highly recommend it to anyone open to a different kind of work experience and looking for an unforgettable adventure!

The living situation in South-Africa was amazing. The restaurants & beaches in Cape Town were great, as were the many possibilities to travel along the garden route or to kruger park. Also the arranged activities from magister were nice to participate in. All in all my time in South Africa was great but the internship place itself was a little bit less enjoyable, but it didn’t withold me from having the best time in my life!

I have experience on poultry as I was managing a chicken farm with more than 1000 chickens when I was doing my bachelor degree studies. My experience to the farm was great in such a way that we were able to supply chickens mean all over accross Morogoro town specifically in biggest hotels. I went further to expand the businesses by starting selling some chicken eggs and further we started selling eggs products by increasing their value chains, their we started to make egg breads, chicken chips and other cookies.

This was the time of my life. I had the feeling of really meaning something to these kids and community. The people really try to do something special and not just 'pretend'. Of course not everything is arranged as european wise efficient but you get use to it. Magister helped me perfectly as far as I'm concerned, their employees where always ready for every (weird) question I had.. Also did some cool stuff like skydiving and memorable drinks. Special thanks to Nicky van Dyk of Magister who maintained contact with me on a very personal level and really cares for my wellbeing.

My first time in South Africa, six months internship in Cape Town - didn't know what to expect, wasn't sure if chosen the right program. But then from the first minute of arrival to the very, very sad far too soon departure I had a ball. Thank you Magister for all & everything, we felt like family all together not only at the weekly outings or the weekends away but during my whole stay. So much fun! I will never forget this experience, never ever! Miss all of it.
