Language Programs in Guadalajara, Mexico

The National Registration Center for Study Abroad offers students the opportunity to study Spanish in Mexico at the University of Guadalajara. Originally founded in 1792, the university is among the largest and most respected institutions of higher learning in Mexico. The Foreign Student Studies Center, a part of the university, was established in 1948 to offer foreign students the opportunity to learn Spanish as well as acquire knowledge of Mexican and Latin American culture. Latin American studies courses include history, art, economics, literature, and philosophy. The center has on average each year 2,500 students from a wide variety of countries. The center has two primary goals: to help non-Spanish speaking students learn enough linguistic skills to communicate in Spanish in real-life settings and to offer cultural courses in social and humanities to students interested in learning more about the Latin American reality. The school has extensive facilities which include a library, a multimedia language laboratory, a computer room, and a cafeteria.

In Guadalajara, Ciudad Guzman, or Cuyutlan, you have the opportunity to immerse yourself in a rich, unique culture and learn Spanish with Projects Abroad. Mexico offers something to everyone volunteering abroad – it is an accessible country, with plenty of hotels, good public transportation, and lots to keep you occupied. You will have 15 hours of tutoring a week with a qualified teacher on a one-to-one basis or paired with another volunteer who speaks the same level of Spanish. You'll learn quickly, especially since you will have plenty of opportunities to practice your new skills while staying with a Spanish-speaking host family!
