<p>Although I graduated some time ago and currently live in Prague, I felt a strong desire to return to a structured academic environment. I wanted to refresh my knowledge, challenge myself, and reconnect academically and personally, while engaging with people from different cultural and professional backgrounds.</p>

<p>I chose ECCEDU because it focuses on architecture and town planning, which are areas I have always been interested in. The content matched my background, allowing me to reconnect with subjects I enjoy while expanding my knowledge.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>What was your favorite part of Prague?</h3>
<p>My favourite part of Prague is its unique blend of history, culture, and everyday livability.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Living here allows me to enjoy beautiful architecture, walkable neighborhoods, and a calm yet inspiring environment. The city feels International but still personal, which makes it an ideal place for both living and learning&nbsp;</p>
<h3>What made your experience abroad extraordinary?</h3>
<p>What made the experience extraordinary was feeling like an international student in my own city.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Through ECCEDU, I met people from many countries, exchanged ideas, and experienced Prague from a fresh perspective.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The cultural exchange, academic discussion, and organized events made the experience feel truly global&nbsp;</p>
<h3>How did local staff support you throughout your program?</h3>
<p>The local staff were very supportive on both academic and personal levels. They provided clear guidance, were always approachable, and helped with coordination, schedules, and practical matters.&nbsp;</p>
<p>They also organized social and cultural activities in the evenings or on weekends, which helped create a sense of community.&nbsp;</p>
<h3>What's one thing you wish you had done differently during your time abroad?</h3>
<p>One thing I wish I had done differently was to participate more actively in the social activities organized by the staff. While I appreciated them, I didn't always join due to personal commitments.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Looking back, I believe greater participation would have enriched my connections and overall experience even more.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.</h3>
<p>My typical day abroad in Prague involves living with my husband. When I have classes, I go to the College of Civil Engineering, where our classes are held in a welcoming, well-designed university building.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The day begins with a light breakfast prepared by the staff, and tea, coffee, water, and juice are available throughout the day. I attend lectures, exchange ideas, and learn in a comfortable environment.&nbsp;</p>
<p>After the courses, I sometimes take a walk in the city or gather with some of my classmates before ending the day in a relaxed way.</p>
<h3>What did you enjoy doing during your free time abroad?</h3>
<p>Although it is my home city, I still enjoyed spending my free time participating in events organized by ECCEDU. These activities gave me the opportunity to experience the city from an international and academic perspective.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I especially valued the cultural and social events, as they allowed me to interact with students from different countries and exchange experiences, making the experience feel new and enriching.</p>
<h3>What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?</h3>
<p>Since I live in Prague, I stayed in my own home during the program. This was good because I felt comfortable and could manage my daily life easily.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Staying at home made it easy to attend classes while still being part of the program's activities and events. At the same time, I still felt connected to the program and its community through classes and organised events.</p>
<h3>What is one thing every future participant should know about your program before their program begins?</h3>
<p>Every future participant should know that this program requires active engagement to fully benefit from it.&nbsp;</p>
<p>While the staff provides excellent support and organized social activities, the experience becomes truly rewarding when students take initiative, participate in activities, and step outside their comfort zone.&nbsp;</p>
<h3>Would you recommend <a href=https://www.goabroad.com/providers/european-centre-for-career-education/programs/architecture-design-prague-program-198573 rel="" target="_self" class="link">Architecture &amp; Design Prague Program</a> to others? Why?</h3>
<p>Yes, I would definitely recommend my program and provider to others. It was professional, supportive, and well-structured. The staff were approachable and always willing to help, whether with academic guidance, daily life matters, or social activities.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>What do you feel the biggest benefit of traveling abroad is?</h3>
<p>The biggest benefit of travelling abroad is personal growth. Being outside your comfort zone develops resilience, flexibility, and problem-solving skills that cannot be learned in a classroom alone.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Travelling abroad broadens one's worldview, reduces cultural stereotypes, and encourages empathy and tolerance.</p>
<h3>Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life?</h3>
<p>Even though I live in Prague, my time with the program gave me a new view of the city and helped me meet people from many countries.&nbsp;</p>
<p>It made me more confident and open to new ideas. I learned to communicate better and feel more ready to face a new challenge in my work life.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The experience also renewed my motivation for learning and self-development.&nbsp;</p>
<h3>What does meaningful travel mean to you?</h3>
<p>Meaningful travel, for me, goes beyond sightseeing or visiting famous landmarks. It means learning about the culture, people, and their way of life; it is about trying to understand different ways of thinking and living.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Meaningful travel helps me grow by giving me new experiences and making me see the world in a different way.&nbsp;</p>

<p>What inspired me to go abroad was a mix of restlessness and curiosity—a need to understand the world beyond my small orbit. I always sensed that life was happening in different colors everywhere else, and I wanted to break out of the familiar. I wanted to feel what it meant to really live, not just observe.</p>
<p>Going abroad felt like the chance to expand who I was, to see humanity up close, and to let the world change me in ways staying home never could.</p>

I didn’t want a simple semester abroad; I wanted movement, discomfort, meaning, and growth.</p>
<p>Baret offered a year of travel through multiple countries, while learning from leaders, activists, artists, and communities. It aligned with the way I see the world: interconnected, human, and constantly shifting.</p>
<p>It wasn’t just education—it was transformation, and I knew I needed that.</p>
<h4>What was your favorite part about your host country/city?</h4>
<p>Every city became a different classroom, but what I loved most was how each place held a completely different rhythm of life.</p>
<p>India taught me reflection, Nepal taught me observation, Buenos Aires, Brazil, and Paris taught me art as an expression in every human form, and Kenya taught me the connection between mind and nature.</p>
<p>But what I truly loved everywhere was the feeling of blending into a city that wasn’t mine, and becoming little pieces of them; of the people that I meet, the places I see, the perspectives I hear—learning its streets, its humor, its habits—until it began to feel like home, everywhere I went, I could find a sense of home.</p>
<h4>What made your experience abroad extraordinary?</h4>

<p>My experience became extraordinary because it wasn’t just about seeing new places—it was about understanding them.</p>
<p>I lived ten years of emotional, cultural, and personal growth in nine months. I connected with people whose stories mirrored mine in ways I didn’t expect. I learned that no matter what corner of the world someone comes from, we’re not that different.</p>
<p>The world became smaller and bigger at the same time, and that changed me permanently.</p>
<h4>How did local staff support you throughout your program?</h4>
<p>The staff—from the Deans to the Fellows and the local coordinators—were a constant source of grounding. They weren’t just program staff; they felt like mentors, sometimes even like family.</p>
<p>Whether it was emotional support, academic guidance, cultural context, or simply helping us navigate a new city, they created a safety net that allowed us to explore freely while knowing we were supported at every step.</p>
<h4>What's one thing you wish you would have done differently during your time abroad?</h4>

<p>I wish I had slowed down more to truly absorb every second with full mental conciseness. With so much movement and stimulation, it’s easy to fall into the rhythm of constant “next thing.”</p>
<p>Even traveling, I fought with my low ability to be present, as if a moment wasn't as heavy until it became a memory. I wish I had spent more time journaling, sitting on benches, or simply holding moments still.</p>
<p>Sometimes I tried to experience everything, and in doing so, I forgot to breathe fully in some places, to the point that it felt like a dream. I had many errors during this amazing year, the way they made me grow, reflect, and know myself, sometimes makes me wish I had committed more errors, not to be so worried, to just experience.</p>
<h4>Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.</h4>
<p>A typical day started with the Morning Program—three hours of talks, seminars, field visits, or conversations with incredible local leaders who reshaped how I saw the world.</p>
<p>After that, I explored the city with friends, worked on my capstone, joined a Fellowship seminar, or had advising sessions.</p>
<p>Afternoons meant discovering cafés, walking endlessly, getting lost on purpose, or finding small moments of quiet. Endless conversations, connections, and reflections towards our surroundings.</p>
<h4>What did you enjoy doing during your free time abroad?</h4>
<p>In my free time, I loved wandering new neighborhoods with no destination. I also spent hours talking with my peers about life, culture, identity, and what it meant to be human in different contexts.</p>
<p>I visited museums, bookstores, local markets, and a lot of parks with good benches. I tried foods I’d never heard of, watched sunsets in cities I had only seen in photos, and collected small moments that still feel alive in me.</p>

<h4>What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?</h4>
<p>We stayed in centrally located hotels in each home-base city, which made exploring extremely easy.</p>
<p>What I loved most was living footsteps away from my peers. It created a sense of community—a small tribe moving together through the world. It felt safe, connected, and full of spontaneous adventures, like knocking on someone’s door at 11 pm just to talk or plan a midnight walk.</p>
<h4>What is one thing every future participant should know about your program before their program begins?</h4>
<p>You should know that Baret isn’t just a program—it’s a mirror. It will show you who you are and who you could become.</p>
<p>You will be challenged emotionally, culturally, and intellectually. You will be tired, overwhelmed, amazed, and deeply alive. If you come willing to be transformed,</p>
<p>the year will give you more than you can imagine.</p>
<h4>Would you recommend Baret Scholars to others? Why?</h4>
<p>Yes, without hesitation. Baret gives you something no classroom, no trip, and no traditional program can: the experience of living, learning, and feeling the world in real time. It pushes you to grow from discomfort, to see humanity up close, and to build friendships that feel like family.</p>

<p>The biggest benefit of traveling abroad is breaking the invisible walls around your worldview.</p>
<p>Traveling forces you to expand, to question, to understand others deeply. You stop seeing the world through the lens of “me” and start seeing it as a shared human experience. You realize empathy is not an idea—it’s something you live.</p>

<h4>Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life?</h4>
<p>Coming home feels different because I’m different. I move with more awareness, more patience, more understanding.</p>
<p>I now see connection everywhere—in strangers, in conversations, in everyday moments. I feel more capable, more grounded, and more open. The world no longer feels distant; it feels accessible, familiar, and intertwined with who I am.</p>
<h4>What does meaningful travel mean to you?</h4>
<p>Meaningful travel is not about the number of countries you visit—it’s about the depth with which you experience them.</p>
<p>It’s allowing a place to challenge your assumptions, soften you, teach you, and shift something inside you. It’s not consumption; it’s connection. It’s letting the world mark you in ways that last long after you’ve left.</p>

<p>I wanted to deepen my understanding of the post-Soviet region through direct immersion, especially given my academic focus on conflict mediation. The Boren Scholarship and the FLAS Fellowship made this opportunity possible and motivated me to strengthen my Russian in a region where the language shapes daily life and identity.</p>

<h4>What was your favorite part about Latvia?</h4>
<p>My favorite part of living in Latvia was discovering how many diasporic cultures shape the region, especially in Latgale. Engaging with Old Believers, Polish, Belarusian, and Russian communities gave me a deeper sense of Latvia's layered identity.</p>
<p>I also loved the tangible historical presence. Walking the Daugavpils fortress and watching Napoleonic battle reenactments felt like stepping directly into the past.</p>
<h4>What made your experience abroad extraordinary?</h4>
<p>What made the experience truly extraordinary was the level of access I had to regional and European leadership.</p>
<p>I had the chance to meet Members of the European Parliament, speak with Latvian Saeima representatives, and engage directly with local mayors in Daugavpils and Preili. Those conversations grounded my academic interests in real policy challenges and perspectives.</p>
<h4>How did local staff support you throughout your program?</h4>
<p>The local staff were consistently supportive and incredibly kind.</p>
<p>They guided me through housing logistics, handled the many administrative details that come with studying and living abroad, and even helped me navigate the healthcare system when needed. My health and well-being were their number one priority.</p>
<p>Their responsiveness and genuine care made it easy to focus fully on my language study and cultural immersion.</p>

<h4>What's one thing you wish you would have done differently during your time abroad?</h4>
<p>I already made an effort to meet one-on-one with professors, explore their publications, and attend office hours, but I wish I had done a bit more of that to deepen those academic connections. I also participated in local events, yet joining a few additional community activities, like city marathons, would have enriched my experience even further.</p>
<p>The City of Daugavpils offers a remarkable balance, combining rich academic and professional opportunities with vibrant cultural and recreational experiences, allowing students to engage both intellectually and socially.</p>
<h4>Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.</h4>
<p>A typical day in Latvia began early with classes on topics such as Baltic history or NATO. I often had one-on-one study sessions with professors and then walked across the city with my communication partner, practicing Russian and learning some Latvian.</p>
<p>Afternoons were spent on excursions to historic WWII sites or local culture houses, which enriched both my language skills and understanding of the region’s history and traditions.</p>
<h4>What did you enjoy doing during your free time abroad?</h4>
<p>During my free time in Latvia, I enjoyed a variety of activities that allowed me to explore both culture and nature. I attended plays, visited bookstores, went to hockey games, and watched motorcycle racing.</p>
<p>I also explored the forests of Latgale, swam in local lakes, traveled to cities like Riga, and attended festivals and free concerts hosted by the community.</p>
<h4>What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?</h4>

<p>I participated in a homestay program, living with three different families over my six-month stay. Each family offered a unique living arrangement, from houses to apartments, making every experience distinct. Navigating public transit to the university was an interesting challenge.</p>
<p>What I appreciated most was the warmth of each community. During Christmas and New Year, each neighborhood had its own local Christmas tree, lit in celebration with neighbors, and it was delightful to travel around the city and see how each tree reflected the community’s character.</p>
<h4>What is one thing every future participant should know about your program before their program begins?</h4>
<p>Future participants should know that this program goes far beyond language study. It offers deep cultural immersion, access to local and European leaders, and hands-on experiences that connect classroom learning to real-world history and society.</p>
<p>Being open to exploring both the academic and local community will make the experience truly transformative.</p>
<h4>Would you recommend Learn Russian in the EU to others? Why?</h4>
<p>I would wholeheartedly recommend Learn Russian in the EU to others. The program combines rigorous language instruction with immersive cultural and historical experiences.</p>
<p>Support from administrators and professors is exceptional, and the opportunities to engage with local communities and regional leaders make it an academically and personally transformative experience.</p>

<h4>Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life?</h4>
<p>Now that I am home, I can see how profoundly my time abroad has shaped my trajectory. The experience has opened doors to respected opportunities in international affairs, strengthened my academic profile, and given me a level of regional understanding that continually informs my work and future goals.</p>
<h4>What does meaningful travel mean to you?</h4>
<p>Meaningful travel, to me, means breaking free from the confines of a single perspective. Immersing myself in the air, history, and culture of Eastern Europe allows me to see the world differently, to think beyond the familiar, and to experience life through the lens of stories, struggles, and philosophies that are not my own, yet that feel like mine.</p>
