What inspired you to travel abroad?
I had been living abroad for a couple years and wanted more out of the experience education wise. I had been an English teaching assistant through some programs and I enjoyed it very much, but I didn't have any official certifications yet.
Why did you choose EBC Servicios Linguisticos Europe?
I thought the EBC program was the right choice for me because of its good reviews from past students and how efficient the staff was in helping me join the EBC program. The were friendly, responsive, and personable. I felt comfortable the minute I reached out for more information about EBC. Above all, it was an extremely organized and thorough program.

What was your favorite part about Madrid?
Madrid is a wonderful city. It was big, but not overwhelming, at least for me. It's easy to get around and there is always something to do or see. My favorite thing would be the museums, or the thriving social scene. It's a city where you can integrate easily.
How did the local program staff support you throughout your program?
They were a very supportive staff, easy to talk to and very effective if any issues arose in the program or beyond. I looked forward to coming to class everyday during the TEFL experience.
What made your experience abroad extraordinary?
Meeting Spanish people from all walks of life, children to adults, and not only people from Madrid, but from other parts of Spain. They made me feel like I wasn't just a visitor, like I was making Madrid home.
Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.
For the EBC program, we arrived at the classes every morning and began our lessons. Depending on the day, we would learn from our teacher, do group activities, or create our lesson plan for the end of the week. We would always get breaks, and of course the break for lunch. After lunch we would do the same, either continue our lessons or presenting our lesson plans to the rest of the group. It was a very organized system.
What did you enjoy doing in your free time abroad?
I loved exploring Madrid, going to all the museums or exhibits, restaurants, and more. Retiro Park is a great place to go on a sunny day. It's also easy to go to small towns or other cities close to Madrid by public transport.
What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?
I already had previous accommodation because of previously working in various programs in Madrid. It's a great city to live in with many different types of living spaces, and it’s quite affordable.
What's one thing you wish you would have done differently during your time abroad?
I wish I would've done more research about creative things to do in a classroom so that my practice classes during the EBC program were more unique.
Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life?
It has has the biggest impact on my life, so much so that I want to consider getting work and residency in Spain to stay there long term. I felt like in a short time I understood the Spanish way of life, and there is still so much to explore.
What do you feel the biggest benefit of traveling abroad is?
Becoming more curious about how big the world really is and what makes us similar and different from those who are from a different culture. It has made me become a more independent, open minded, and patient person. I am excited for new possibilities of wherever life takes me.
Would you recommend your program to others? Why?
Yes, because I really felt prepared by the end of the EBC course to be a better teacher. The environment of the space along with the friendliness of the staff made for a wonderful experience and I would recommended the program without hesitation to anyone that wants to get their TEFL certification.
What is your best piece of advice for future participants?
Be prepared to work hard, but it is worth it, and very rewarding.
