Join the Teen Volunteer Summer Camp in Costa Rica with International Volunteer HQ for an unforgettable cultural immersion and community volunteering experience designed for 16- and 17-year-olds. This fully supervised program combines meaningful volunteer work with social activities, cultural exploration, and friendly group adventures. Each week you’ll contribute to local community projects, with around four hours of volunteering per day. Outside of volunteer work you’ll take part in activities like salsa lessons, nature tours, cultural outings, sports sessions, and excursions that show off Costa Rica’s natural beauty and vibrant culture. Your stay includes accommodation with a host family, three meals a day, airport pick-up and drop-off, group transport to all activities, orientation, and 24/7 supervision by dedicated counsellors. While Costa Rica has a very high literacy rate and has a very strong tourism industry, there are also quite large impoverished and at-risk communities. This project aims to send volunteers into these communities to help them achieve their goals. There are a variety of projects in different fields volunteers can choose from such as helping with women’s issues, child welfare, health care or education. The internship provides volunteers with a practical and professional experience needed for a career in social work or a similar field. To make sure that participants are meeting their goals there will be bi-weekly meetings with a supervisor and a final evaluation of their performance. This project highly encourages interns to have an intermediate level of Spanish to help enhance their internship experience.

Seeds of Change seeks to train young biology students in comparative microbial bioinformatics to give them a leg up in this burgeoning field. Students study microbial bioinformatics because microbes are central to all environments on the planet, drive biogeochemical cycles, and perform functions vital to all life forms. Before students travel to Costa Rica, they are introduced to the Joint Genome Institute’s (JGI) Integrated Microbial Genomes and Microbiomes (IMG/M) platform, a gateway to sophisticated genome databases and analysis tools. The five interactive pre-trip modules present a seminal case study that applies the fundamentals of genetics (DNA structure, replication, transcription, translation and gene regulation) to an insect-bacteria symbiotic relationship. Once in Costa Rica, students work with a partner to generate their original research question and use their new-found expertise in microbial bioinformatics to develop a poster of their research. Students engage in off-site activities that include guided hikes in the cloud forest, a zipline adventure in the cloud forest, a coffee tour, a horseback ride in the cloud forest, and a sea turtle marine research experience.

The lively beach town of Santa Teresa is world famous for surf breaks across beaches pristine, uncrowded and seemingly endless. After surfing and sunbathing are over for the day – and Spanish lessons and surfing! – the town comes alive with funky surf shops, cafes, restaurants and nightspots for every taste and budget. Your experience will be based at ‘Jakera Jungle Surf Camp’ where we have created a jungle paradise complete with swimming pool overlooked by a rich tropical forest bursting with wildlife including red squirrels, howler monkeys and tiny magical hummingbirds. We are a 5 min walk from the cool cafes, bars and shops that line the 6km stretch of road and beach that make up Playa Santa Teresa/Playa El Carmen. This program starts on the first and third Sunday of each month, so clients can ‘settle in’ before the program proper starts on Monday morning. For those looking to combine training of the body and mind, NSI's Spanish & Yoga program combines the best of what Nosara has to offer. As a world-class yoga teacher training destination, Nosara has an abundance of expert yoga instructors and first-class yoga studios. In this program, students can participate in our 10 or 20-hour Spanish course and schedule their yoga classes before or after their Spanish classes. The Spanish classes will take place Monday-Friday at our campus, and the yoga classes at the beautiful, newly designed Bodhi Tree Resort, which is just a 10-minute walk along a nature trail from our campus. Yoga classes are offered at multiple times throughout the day, six days per week. This is truly a unique opportunity to take advantage of stretching both your body and mind.

This language program includes everything you need to learn, practice, and improve your Spanish in a truly idyllic location. The Standard Spanish Program accepts students aged 18 and above, from complete beginners to advanced speakers. Whether you need to improve your Spanish for professional purposes, prepare for an exam, or are just learning for fun, our team will create the environment you need to succeed. Receive four hours of group Spanish classes per day, Monday to Friday, from 9 am-1 pm. Group classes, with a maximum of six students, are led by professional teachers. In the afternoons, explore the nearby national park and numerous beaches. All of our programs include a complimentary program of activities, access to a swimming pool, snorkels, surfboards, and a tour office to assist you in booking other activities. Throughout the program, you have the option to stay with a local host family for maximum Spanish immersion. The alternative option is an 'on-campus' accommodation at the popular Hostel Plinio.
