Why did you choose to study with Kaplan International Colleges?
When I compared all the different language schools, Kaplan totally convinced me and I know that I made the right decision. The location, the costs and also the various courses which are well explained in the brochure were all the reasons for my choice. Moreover at this school you have the opportunity to attend several study clubs after class. In addition there is the OPUS-Program, which you can join and where the responsible person supports the students in finding a job in Australia.

What do you enjoy about your course?
The chance that I can improve my English knowledge and practice the learned skills outside class. During the course we did many interesting activities, which are all connected with vocabulary, phrasal verbs or grammar. This helps to make an effort while I also could enjoy spending time with other students from foreign countries and cultures. I like the material (course books) we studied, the listening and the films we watched (documentaries, reports, etc.).

How have the school staff helped you?
All the time the staff was very friendly and helpful to me. The people from the reception for instance know the places in the city, where to go and where the events will be. The teachers are happy to answer your questions and if you have a problem they will look after you and make sure, you are fine and feel comfortable while you are far away from home.

What is the best thing about the teachers and teaching method?
As I wrote above. The best thing about the teachers in my opinion is the knowledge and experience of teaching they have. It is important to all students and they can benefit from that situation. Teaching methods are of course very different, depending on which teacher you have, I liked the way they taught.

How can you tell if your English has improved?
Every five weeks a level test took place and the results confirmed an improvement. In the CAE class we had as well tests to check if we could achieve our goals and I definitely did!

Are you staying with a host family or in a residence or apartment? What do you like the most about your accommodation?
Throughout my whole stay I was living with a host family. The biggest advantage is that you need to speak English every day and the family also can help you if you have any difficulties, e.g. if you are not sure about a particular topic or word. Another excellent point is that you have the possibility to be part of their daily life. You will get to know the AUS-culture, here try Vegimite or enjoy a cricket game together with the family. I liked being in my family, it became my home for 7 months and it was awesome! I highly recommend it to people, who want to experience such an unforgettable time.

What is the best thing about studying with students from around the world?
You have the chance to meet students from all over the world and even make new friends by spending time together, for example by doing an excursion. Students can share their impressions and discover a place together. This means a lot of fun and you will be never bored.

How does your language course help you achieve your career and study goals?
During my studies especially the CAE and Business English course were very improving for my English skills. I learned a lot of vocabulary based on a particular topic. I would like to work in the tourism industry and therefore I need to have a high English knowledge, it is very relevant to me. Im sure, when I'll return, I'll have much better chances to get my dream job than I had before I came to Brisbane.

I heard a lot of good stories about Kaplan, so I thought: 'why not?'

Which course are you taking and how long is it?
Academic Semester for 20 weeks in Cairns, then I'm also going to Sydney to finish my semester there.

What do you enjoy about your course?
It's great in Cairns, the atmosphere is so good. Everyone has been lovely, and we are one happy family doing lots of activities!

How have the school staff helped you?
They have all been so helpful, just great! They even supported me to go so the CAE course, they gave me confidence, and that was good. They will push you in the right direction.

What is the best thing about the teachers and the teaching method?
The best thing is that we do things together and discuss things together in class. It os just so much fun because you get to understand difficult vocabulary so much better. It just gets more personal and makes you think in a different way.

How can you tell if your English has improved?
Apart from that I cant speak or think in Dutch anymore (it goes so quick!) It has just improved an it is so great to use idioms and new vocabulary. It makes conversations a lot more interesting and you put yourself into situations which I though I would never be able to handle. But it gives me more confidence, now I know how to use the vocabulary.

What is the best thing about the activities?
I just love to play squash. Annette is perfect in organising activities. We are never bored, because there is always something to do! So much fun!!

What do you like the most about your accommodation?
It is close to the school, clean, there are friendly people and I still have enough privacy.

What is the best thing about studying with students from around the world?
Everyone has different cultures and languages, but it is great that everyone respects each other so much.

How does your language course help you achieve your career and study goals?
This will help me to be the best host anywhere in the world!
