I went with ILP in Winter 2004 to Urumuqi, China. There are not many men that go with ILP but I had a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone. Teaching the kids was awesome. The dorms we lived in were great. I would do it again if I could. I will never forget the friends I made that the children's lives that I helped influence. Near the end, the school put on a program just for us teachers to thank us for being there. ILP is a great organization for anyone and especially for anyone looking for a program where people will have similar LDS standards.
Teaching english in China was awesome!!! Being apart of those kids lives has changed my life. I know they probably won't remember me but they definietly left an inprint on my heart. I can't express what the experience was like, there were good days and there were bad days but for the most part there was learning and and loving. I never regret going, I only wish I could be there again!

I volunteered with ILP in Saint Petersburg, Russia in 2009, and in Kyiv, Ukraine in 2010. Whether you are well-traveled or just setting out, I would sincerely recommend ILP. While other programs drop you into their countries with no support systems, ILP provides everything imaginable to help you feel safe, comfortable, and excited. You can take cooking classes, language classes, or karate classes, (depending on which country to go to) all for free! There is a definite reason people choose to go back and volunteer with ILP time and time again, and that would be my only caution to you--it is addicting! : )
I planned on taking just one semester of college off but couldn't resist going back for another with ILP. I used to think that people half way around the world would be so different from me. Going to China taught me that we are the same in so many ways. The friendships I made with my students and the members of my group will stay with me forever. I wouldn't trade my experience for anything and I hope to go back again.
Awesome! Loved it so much I went twice. I went before starting college and so it was a big transition for me and I grew a lot. But, I love teaching, traveling, and learning languages so it was just about the most fulfilling thing I've done thus far in my life. I hope to go again with my husband in the next few years!
I went with ILP four semesters. I went first to Urumqi China then to Kunming China, then to Moscow Russia and lastly to Kiev Ukraine. I loved every moment of my experience! I was able to make lasting friendships, experience new cultures, and learn more about life and love. I was impacted profoundly by the children I taught and I will forever cherish the moments I spent with them. I would recommend this program to anyone.
I assume that if you're reading this, you're considering going on the program. I have two words for you: Do It. You will never regret it. In China I had crazy adventures, ate things no one should ever eat, and made friends for life. ILP is the perfect venue for a safe, true, and meaningful experience of a lifetime. Basically, it rocks.
Volunteering with ILP was the best experience of my life. I got to see the world while I was serving and changing the lives of children. I will always look back on my experience volunteering abroad as the best decision I have ever made.
