Although I've rushed around with a camera attached to me like a third arm for years, I've never experienced anything close to what I did in making my short, 'Morni Ki Raag.' Film school never prepared me for what it feels like to stand in front of a unit, the cameraman, the actors, the producer, all watching you.
I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this is a historic era (Malvali) and to wake up in the morning and realize that it is surrounded by mountains. Every view is unique and beautiful... The children have really shown a lot of growth and we're all having a lot of fun. The kids all have a great spirit and really show that they love learning every day.
I've been here about a week now and am amazed as I reflect on those days I've learned many lessons academically, emotionally/spiritually and professionally... All in all, I'm extremely pleased with how my trip has gone so far. It's been a perfect balance of learning and experiencing/being!
I am able to see exactly what goes into a film including but not limited to: writing, directing, lighting, cinematography, editing, sound mixing, acting, costume/make-up. With this insight I can more carefully analyze films and feel more confident of my abilities make my own films.
I have found this program to have been life changing and an incredible experience that I will remember for the rest of my life. I have no doubt that I will return to India in the near future and enjoy many of the wonders that it has to offer... Danyawad and thank you so much for all of your help and for allowing me to experience such a wonderful program!
I have found my times in the hospitals both eye-opening and humbling, and am grateful for my exposure to the blaring intricacies of the rich-poor gap, inner workings of the healthcare system, and deeply rooted, intense care and passion of the physicians.
It has been interesting to see village life in Rural India and the types of diseases that commonly occur. Having completed pre-clinical medicine it is very satisfying to put one's medical knowledge into practice in being able to understand patients' symptoms in terms of disease mechanisms and why certain drugs were prescribed... The guest house is very nice, the staff are friendly and the food is excellent and varied.
This program is truly exceptional! For a big city, New York Boy, this was a very humbling experience. Not only do I have memories to live for, but I also have wonderful family here in Pen with ISAC, CFI, the schools and my Family in Pen& Thank you for such a wonderful experience! Namaskar and Shukriya! My blessings from heart are given to you!
It is so amazing to see how much can change and how much I can experience in such a short period of time. There has been a great whirlwind of emotions and experiences. I have been excited, enthused, surprised, confused, annoyed and mostly in love with this whole place... I have learned so much about India and its culture and people& I came here for one of the most memorable and life-changing experiences of my life and I am on my way to achieve this.
For five incredible weeks, I stayed in Mumbai, studying and observing the Bollywood film industry. Most days brought a new director, choreographer, producer or actor. I visited film sets, remote locations, editing studios and producer offices... While I received no credit for studying and living abroad in Mumbai, I can truthfully say that it was one of the most valuable additions to my higher education.
