Marine Research & Whale Shark Conservation with PADI Diving

Volunteer abroad in Mozambique on this research and conservation project in Tofo, a beach town on the eastern shores of Inhambane Peninsula. This project collaborates with a few international marine research bodies, including the Ecocean global whale shark database. The Marine Research and Whale Shark Conservation Project provides hands-on experience in a range of activities, from coral reef monitoring to turtle nest surveys. Plus, take a PADI or SSI Dive course and have the opportunity to explore one of Africa’s best scuba diving destinations! If you already have this qualification, you may take an advanced open water diving course or an equivalent number of extra research dives. In order to carry out your duties effectively, you need: - To be a capable swimmer (swim 100 meters unassisted) - The ability to hold your breath to dive down (would be advantageous) - The ability to equalize your ear pressure and willingness to learn to scuba dive If you’re a beginner diver, you have to volunteer for at least 3 weeks to maximize your time on conservation volunteer activities.

Elephant Conservation in Mozambique

Become a part of the only wildlife conservation volunteer program in the Gonarezhou Transfrontier Park and Mozambique! Together with other participants, you contribute to the protection of animals that call the reserve home. Collect vital data (such as game populations and rare sightings) and monitor the area's condition on daily game drives and bush walks. All evaluated data is shared with relevant institutions. This wildlife conservation program largely involves physical work, which is more fun than you think it would be! Get your hands dirty while immersing yourself in the African bush, among animals in their natural habitat. The volunteer work you do is key to the survival of wildlife and the success of wildlife conservation! The program includes en-suite accommodation shared by a maximum of 2 persons. Volunteers stay in shared safari tents in our northern camp during winter (March to October) or in shared chalets in our southern camp during summer (November to February). The program duration is 3 weeks and cannot be extended due to visa regulations.

DolphinCare Volunteer in Ponta do Ouro, Mozambique

Volunteer stays and Internships offer a unique opportunity for one to gain hands on experience that focuses on marine mammals and ethical, responsible and educational tourism. For some it's a sabbatical journey tuning into mother nature and for others it is a platform to deepen their relationship with wild dolphins and to extend their knowledge base in a myriad of different ways. Gather data with Angie Gullan while getting up-close to the Dolphins of Ponta while snorkeling. Participate and contribute to the various project run at the Center that include but are not limited to the resident dolphins ID cataloguing, land based observations, structured beach clean-ups, microplastic surveys and stranding project. One can expect to have regular in-water encounters with the local dolphins while assisting Angie both at sea and behind the desk.
