Marine Professional Development Program
Program Overview
Join Love The Oceans for an immersive 5 week marine conservation program designed for aspiring ocean professionals. Based in the stunning Mission Blue Hope Spot of Jangamo Bay, this expedition combines hands-on fieldwork with professional development and community engagement. You’ll learn research techniques like aerial surveying of megafauna, coral reef biodiversity surveys, participate in ocean clean-ups, and gain experience in sustainable fisheries. You’ll receive tailored mentorship, career support, and academic guidance to help shape your path in marine science.
Daily workshops cover topics such as ocean governance, conservation theory, and data collection methods. You’ll also contribute directly to ongoing conservation efforts, working with our local team to support marine protection and community education. With whales breaching offshore and vibrant reefs as your classroom, this program offers a unique opportunity to build your skills, make an impact, and connect with like-minded ocean advocates from around the world.
After the expedition you'll be added to Love The Oceans job network, opening opportunities for employment in the industry after course completion.

When can I start?
We have select start dates for our programs as we need to train everyone in our data collection methodologies and conservation approach. Program dates for 2026 are:
19th April – 24th May
24th May – 28th June
28th June – 2nd August
9th August – 13th September
13th September – 18th October
Is Mozambique safe?
Yes. Mozambique is a safe and welcoming country, especially in the south where we operate. While there has been past conflict in the far north of the country, this is 1,000 km+ away from us in Inhambane. Inhambane translates as 'Land of the Good People' in the local dialect. Crime rates here are extremely low and our local community is friendly and tight-knit. Safety is always our top priority. All expeditions are fully risk-assessed.
Accommodation & Meals
We stay in backpacker style accommodation Blue Moon in Guinjata Bay. This means running water and electricity, mosquito nets and fully functioning bathrooms. You can choose to be in gender separated rooms, or you can opt for gender neutral accommodation. All your meals are included in your program fee. You’ll have breakfast, a packed lunch & a cooked dinner every day. Meals are almost completely locally sourced.
