The first of the Action Amideast programs, Tunisia offers students the unparalleled opportunity to engage firsthand in the vibrant, post-revolutionary atmosphere of the country whose people ignited a revolution and continue to forge new, exemplary paths in society-state relations, equity and inclusion, entrepreneurship, community resilience, political life, arts and heritage preservation, sustainability, and development. The six-week, six-credit program includes a study component in Tunisian Colloquial Arabic or Tunisian Sign Language and a service learning component through a Community-Based Learning course while placed at a Tunisian worksite. Students do not need prior Arabic study or knowledge of the region to participate in this program. Based on background, students will be placed with various organizations, from politics to civil society. Placements can be completed in English, French, American Sign Language, or Arabic. In your free time, explore Tunisia’s marvelous ancient sites such as Carthage or El Jan, one of the world’s best preserved Roman Amphitheaters, soak up sun rays at one of Tunisia’s beaches on the Mediterranean sea, or catch a ride on a camel in Douz!
