European Studies Study Abroad Programs in Portugal

This program gave me an opportunity that I wouldn’t have been able to do by myself. I had learned a lot about being the best Speech Language Pathologist should look like and continue that with my career moving forward. I would encourage anyone is capable of going on a journey to see it from a different perspective.

I had a great time learning and experiencing different cultures and meeting new people. The hands on work with individuals was very educational! Overall had an amazing time! One thing I would change is the order of activities. I felt that everything in Bulgaria worked out great and moved smoothly into the next activities. For Greece, I think having Athens first and then going to santorini would have been more relaxing. In Athens we did so much on our feet and had only one break the whole day, instead of doing Santorini first, it would be more relaxing if we could do the walking and touring in Athens and then have time to just hang out and sleep like we did in Santorini!

I have already done the refer a friend program and referred my friend to study in Lisbon this summer. She was inspired by the amazing experience that I have had and I have shared with her how interactive and caring the staff is. I am so grateful for my experience and thankful for the CIEE staff making me a part of their family!

I loved every second of therapy abroad! It was such an fun and incredible experience that I will cherish forever! Every moment being spent abroad was so eye opening and life changing and being able to learn from other cultures and experience different perspectives was incredible

Therapy Abroad provided exceptional coordination and support for Illinois State University’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders during our recent faculty-led, short-term study abroad program in Bulgaria, Greece, and Turkey. Through pre-departure training and on-the-ground guidance, they fostered an environment where students could engage thoughtfully with local communities, developing both their clinical and intercultural competencies. The emphasis on linguistic diversity was particularly commendable, as students gained firsthand experience working with multilingual populations and learning about the intersection of language, identity, and communication disorders in different cultural contexts. Our team, David, Emo, and Stoycho made this trip the outstanding experience that it was. Clearly the beautiful countries of Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey provided the cultural experience, but the team provided context and support throughout the trip. They were kind and gracious every moment of every day.

I loved this trip so much!!! This was a wonderful opportunity to get to know my peers and professors better while also getting to know myself better. I hope this programs continues on for time to come so other students can experience the joy of traveling the world and learning from others.

I’ve loved every moment of this trip. While being able to spend this time with my peers from school and tour historical and cultural sites with breathtaking views, we also got to visit speech therapy clinics at colleges which was so awesome to experience. We also had THE BEST tour guides EVER- Stoycho, Emo, and David. This will be a trip I’ll never forget ❤️❤️❤️

The CSD cultural immersion trip to Bulgaria, Greece, and Turkey was beneficial for students and faculty. The CSD specific activities were unlike anything that can be taught in a classroom. It was a pleasure to participate in of this experience with our students and my colleagues.

From the bottom of my heart, I loved this trip! All the observation and site seeing opportunities were excellent. We were all taken care of and if there was any worry, our professors and guides would help us through it. Everyone connected more on this trip and there was not a single person left out. Therapy Abroad is one of the best organizations to exist and this wont be my last trip :)

I had a life changing trip to Bulgaria, Turkey, and Greece that reaffirmed my belief in my field of practice (Speech Therapy), brought me close to different cultures, developed my personal philosophies, and broadened my horizons on both the world and healthcare. It was priceless, and it was all thanks to the excellent service, organization, and kindness boasted by this wonderful company.

This experience studying abroad was so amazing! Not only did I learn a lot that will benefit me in my future career, but I also grew as a person in experience, confidence, and flexibility. Learning about other cultures was cool to me as well. I loved the staff and how they cared for us! I would definitely recommend Therapy Abroad to anyone and everyone! And I can’t wait to tell my family/friends about the general ease throughout the trip and all I got to experience!

This was the most life changing, amazing experience of our lives. David was absolutely incredible, as well as Emo and Stoycho (our Bulgarian guides). They were so comforting, kind, and welcoming. They made this the most exceptional trip I have hacer been on and it would not have been the same without them.

Though this was a long trip away from home (both distance and length), it was the best thing I have ever done. This trip taught me so much about myself and culture. The staff we had along with us, Stoycho, David, and Emo were amazing and I am eternally grateful for them. They’re extremely selfless and kind. I would recommend therapy abroad to absolutely everyone!

This truly was an amazing trip! I got to experience so much history and culture as well as develop connections with SLP departments around the world. It is a trip I will never forget and plan to take back all I learned to become a better clinician and human being!

This was truly an amazing experience lead by the best people. I couldn’t have imagined this trip any other way. The safety provided by our leaders was nothing short of perfect. I always felt protected and learned more than I could imagine.

This was a great way to further learn in my field of study. I got to bring what I knew to other countries and share/expand my knowledge! The facilitators were AMAZING! While learning about therapy, I also got to see many different historical landmarks and also got to experience other cultures! Very awesome. A lot packed into a week but it was well worth it!

This trip was my first time going abroad, and it couldn’t have been a better experience! We were well taken care of and had the most supportive staff with us. The cultural immersion, exploring opportunities, and community building on this trip was so special. Meeting with SLPs, professors, and CSD students in other countries gave me so much perspective about our field and made me grateful for the opportunities we have. Overall, this trip was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I can’t wait to tell everyone about it!
