Spend a semester or academic year in the charming resort city of Viña del Mar, Chile, with AIFS Abroad! You’ll earn up to 16 credits per semester through various courses while studying at the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez. Courses are taught in English and Spanish, with no previous Spanish language study required for most programs. One of the best ways to learn about the local culture in Viña del Mar is by volunteering in the community. Potential opportunities in Viña del Mar are in education, community service, or health institutions in the surrounding area. Placements will be made after you arrive in Chile. We provide a range of courses for all skill levels based on individual needs. We achieve this by taking a personalized and student-centered approach involving instructors and students in the learning process. All our teachers are native speakers who hold university degrees and years of proven experience. We also offer online classes for those who do not have the opportunity to visit our locations. In addition, all students who attend at least 85% of classes during their Spanish course will receive a Don Quijote certificate at the end of the program. At the School in Chile, students come in at the intermediate-advanced level of Spanish and adhere to the Middlebury Language Pledge® to reap the benefits of linguistic immersion. Chile’s largest city, Santiago, offers a pleasant mixture of colonial buildings and parks with the convenience of modern transportation and the look of newer architecture. Santiago has a strong and active cultural life, with the presence of various theaters, museums, and cultural centers. Here, students have the option of studying at three excellent universities: the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, the Universidad de Chile, or the Universidad Alberto Hurtado. Our Spanish Centre of Universidad Viña del Mar is accredited by the Instituto Cervantes from Spain, which means it meets the conditions set by the Instituto Cervantes Accreditation System for Centres, the only international accreditation exclusively focused on the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language. We offer the Spanish Semester Program to international students interested in Spanish core courses and electives focused on Chilean and Latin American culture with credits/ETCS. A1, A2, B1, and B2 levels are available for Spanish core courses. These are aligned and accredited by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). International students must take an oral and written level test in order to test their language level. This helps them choose among the Spanish Language and elective courses based on their results in the level test.
