Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) is an international development charity founded in 1958 by Alec and Moira Dickson. The organization started when British volunteers were sent in response to a request for English teaching in Borneo. Since then, we have recruited thousands of volunteers to work on development programs in over 120 countries. Growing from a UK charity to a global organization, we have delivered services that have made an impact on nearly two million people around the globe.
VSO calls on skilled volunteers of various nationalities and sectors of society, from young people to business leaders, to help achieve our mission to “bring people together to fight poverty.” While sending professionals and skilled volunteers to local counterparts is our main activity, we have taken on new methods to provide assistance. These include youth exchanges, knowledge sharing, and promoting global action and understanding.
