New York University

My study abroad semester at NYU Florence was my first time ever in Europe, and it was an absolute dream come true. Florence is such a gorgeous city, with amazing architecture, people, and food. The NYU Florence campus is beautiful, with a fascinating history as well. The community itself is small & tight-knit, bringing me friends that I got to travel around the continent with. My favorite part of my semester in Florence was how easy it was to travel to different countries every weekend and experience new cultures.

Because the program was six weeks with less than 30 students, we did not have many events or excursions organized by the school. The class size was small with less than ten students, but this allowed us to learn more about our professors. In regards to course materials, they were flexible with time, workload, and content because they understood that it was a short program. Also, the professors encouraged us to explore the city and get the most out of our stay by organizing in-class excursions and recommending sites we can visit and events we can participate. Byron Court (residence) was located in a safe and accessible area as it was at the center of London, surrounded by other colleges including UCL. The professors and staff members were all helpful, and I am grateful to have had the chance to spend my summer there.

I never really thought I would be going to Madrid, but after going and spending a year there, I fell in love. The city itself is beautiful, the metro and other public transportation is clean and easy to use, and traveling to other parts of Spain/Europe is just so much cheaper and convenient. The student life team at NYU Madrid was super friendly, and they really tried to make a lot of opportunities even though with COVID there were still some restrictions that made it hard. Being able to actually see the material we were learning about in class, and use the Spanish we were learning in daily interactions was really helpful and cool!

I think studying away in Shanghai is a quite great experience for me. Shanghai is an amazing city with its own distinct culture, and it's so convenient and safe. Well, I think the cost of living in Shanghai actually is much lower than New York, which sometimes also be a concern for college students. As for the academic courses, I highly recommended you to take some culture related courses in NYUShanghai which allows you to gain and explore more about this city and this country, I think it is a very important part of "Study Away Program" and is very meaningful. I've taken "Concept of China" and "History of Chinese Art" during my "Study Away" semester, the professor was so nice, even inspiring my great academic interests in Art History, currently I decided to pursue this field as my minor. During your spare time, I think searching for a on-campus job is a very good choice, then you can meet more with your teammates/partners/groups. At the same time, it's also like a close community with who you works with, it will provide you a sense of belongingness to this site. Take my story as an example, I was the "Study Away Peer Assistant" in that semester, and we worked together to plan for study away students' events/activities. Through meetings, brainstorming, chatting, collaborating, I made good friends there and I also love the energy I had while working in this team! Otherwise, you can also step outside the campus and go cycling along the Bund or bring your camera to Xujiahui. I mean lifestyle in Shanghai is up to you, don't be stressful when you are seeing people in a hurry to work hhh. There are many places and things you can go for, explore and enjoy!

Cultural programming are events offered by NYU London that are sponsored by the school. It allows access to places that are either farther out of London or more expensive. Some notable events that were offered during my semester included a trip to Bath, Hamilton tickets, Soccer tickets.

This program gives you support in a gentle but full immersion in the Chinese culture. The support also enabled you to maintain a comfortable bubble when needed so that you are not overwhelmed. The sheer number of experiences you can gain and the lifelong friends that you can make here is amazing.

NYU Buenos Aires was nothing short of the best expereince ever! It is a small program which makes it extremely easy to make friends and create a tight-knit community! The admin was nothing short of a great one and they were so attentive to everybody's needs!

This university is a truly incredible project that allows to get best of two dominant cultures of the 21st century NYU Shanghai exemplifies the highest ideas of higher education and unites the international resources of New York University's global network with the multidimensional richness of China. The university guides students towards academic and moral excellence, preparing them for leadership in all walks of life, and contribute to the endless quest for new insights into the world.

Program was really well organized and offered various opportunities to get exposed to the city and other parts of Spain. Amazing weather. Locals are extremely friendly and helpful.

Overall a good program. I recommend it. Just bring someone else along if you're not from NYU. Madrid is much better if you've got a friend in the city.

It was a great experience for me except for the homestay where I was cooked pasta every single dinner, hardly traditional. The planned trips were great.

My year in Madrid totally changed my life! I returned and got a Ph.D. in Spanish and Latin American history from the University of Washington. I taught at St. Olaf and Carleton Colleges in Minnesota. In 1975, when Franco died, my Spanish family (which had been very active in the Spanish Civil War)sent me their life savings which I invested for them in the U.S. for 15 years until democracy was firmly established in Spain. I stayed in regular contact with "Madre" until her death in the 1990"s. What an experience! Thank you NYU.

I was at the Universidad de Carlos Tercera and loved it. School was a lot harder than I expected. I recommend it-- all classes in Spanish and I had a great host family.

Great time overall - great weather. A few issues: 1. food in homestay sucked 2. need more exposure with madrilenos. Warning: food in Madrid is horrible. other parts of Spain, much better.

It was very well organized & the institution had planned trips for us to go on which was an introduction to the culture in an academic standard.

I thought NYU did a good job creating community, which isolated its students from Madrileno culture. I felt it was harmful to my trying to integrate into the culture being on an NYU program.

I really enjoyed my program! The administration was amazing and organized so much for the students. I wish there was more immersion but overall it was a great experience.

Prague was absolutely amazing and the NYU program did a good job balancing our desire to travel/generally neglect our academics with their need to actually teach us a few things. The dorms were all very nice (especially the new ones, which were gorgeous), and the NYU trips etc were great. Everyone was super nice and friendly. and I absolutely commend NYU in Prague. You wont regret going.

Experience was a blast. Recommended homestay for language exposure. NYU goes out of their way to expose students to the culture. NYU has its own classrooms in Spain which helps maintain program quality.

Knowledgable professors, the majority very committed to helping students. Extremely interesting subject matter for linguistics enthusiasts. Thesis provided an excellent opportunity to explore and research one's interests in depth. Madrid is quite good for linguistic and cultural immersion, as people will rarely, if ever, respond to non-natives in English. The disadvantages of the program I felt were rooted in the fact that some aspects of the infrastructure in Spain (lack of text and library resources, paucity of library hours, and generally slower pace of professional and academic life as compared with the U.S.—response time via e-mail, for example) were inadequate to support an accelerated, one-year, American-structured master's program. The program ought to be adjusted to befit the resources and pace of life in Madrid, and not simply exist as an American master's grafted onto a Spanish framework.

I have lived in other countries but for short periods of time, so I wanted to spend more than a few weeks abroad. I decided to study in Spain and I'm glad I did. I'm amazed at the level of immersion and impact culture had on my language skills. I was not terrible before, but I became close to fluency by the end of the program. I gained a holistic view of Spanish from its history to its use in verbal and nonverbal communication. Without this academic inclusion, I would not have had a pleasant time.

As a graduate student, I felt prepared going into classroom discussions from the cultural experience I received while in Spain. The atmosphere, the students, and the professors brought to life the literary features that we'd studied. Although, the management of the program was poor, I truly resonated with the lovers of literature and culture. I loved the trips to Seville and Bilbao because I was allowed to see the environment from a unique perspective. Furthermore, I loved working with my faculty advisor, who gave me quality and positive feedback on my thesis. Not all of the professors were that way, but some were encouraging and willing to help. As a program, I would say that the best experiences were the trips, formation of my thesis, and cultural immersion.

As a student, I was impressed with the amount of cultural excursions and the opportunities to become a true citizen of Spain. I loved the practical nature of the program, which is why I would recommend this program to anyone looking to take their Spanish to the next level.

As a graduate student, I was quite impressed with the level of rigor in this particular program. Professors were knowledgeable, easily accessible, and clearly academic experts in their specific fields. The cohorts are small, which allows for more individualized access to professors and colleagues and has potential to create space for collaborative learning environments. The highlight of the program most definitely lies in the academics / coursework- all conducted in the Spanish language. For me, this was a big plus and a main selling point of the NYU Madrid program.

The NYU Spanish M.A. Madrid provides a good opportunity for students of the Spanish language to be immersed in the scholarly world and culture surrounding the language. The top notch professors at NYU Madrid are always willing to provide help and guidance to students. In addition, the city itself boasts an excellent cultural offering, with world class museums and a lively social and night life.

While I had a great overall experience in Spain, I would attribute very little of that to NYU itself. The school administration provided little to no support for our visa applications, housing search or financial aid, and I generally found the staff to be distant and uninterested in advising on those and other issues, including an interpersonal conflict between several classmates lasting the entire year, which influenced group cohesion and the general academic environment. The main campus in New York was of little help either, and it seems that the two campuses don't communicate all that well with each other. For example, many of the students in my class were offered $3000 in work study, but it turns out that work study is unavailable on the Madrid campus for more than one or two students, and even the ones who were able to participate only made a few hundred dollars over the course of the year. The academic standards are also very low--it is permissible to submit one's thesis in English, for example, and many students made it through the year without speaking regularly in Spanish. That being said, the professors themselves are truly amazing, so the academic experience is great in that way, but I would recommend saving your money and applying directly to the local universities where they regularly teach.

NYU Madrid was one of the best decisions I've made. Apart from the academics, I gained an in-depth insight to life as a Spaniard, and really as a Spanish speaker. Living in a unique culture, help me to improve my language proficiency and much more. I wish I could relive my experiences because it was that great!

I thought that living abroad would help me significantly when it came to improving my Spanish but I quickly came to realize that no matter where I am, I have to put for an extra effort to learn. I had some great teachers and I had some teachers that were clearly there to collect a check. I do believe the program could benefit from having Spanish teachers understand how explicit the American culture is when it comes to education...that is just the way it is. As far as living conditions, I couldn't have had a better experience. I lived with Americans but they were there to teach in Spain, not to earn a degree. I was able to connect to other locals because of them and have a totally different experience than those living with friends in the program. The overall experience was good but it does take away the beauty of enjoying that country when you are knee deep in assignments.

Great program! Wonderful professors and great classes. I got to go to all the museums in Paris with my art history class in French and study Parisian architecture with another class.

NYU is a great program but it really depends on how much you make out of it My recommendation is to take all of your courses in Spanish and make cultural connections. Cultural Immersion: Depends on you, not on the program.

BEST TIME OF MY LIFE

NYU in Paris offers you the option of taking classes at a French university in the city, which sounds pretty cool. I discourage against doing this - it is a hassle to communicate with the French professors in these universities and the grading systems are very different than what is used in the US. The point is to meet other parisian students, but for me this didn't happen. No one was particularly friendly at all, actually. I did enjoy one of my Paris University classes, but it was in english and the professor was from London...stick to the NYU in Paris classes if you can. The quality of the NYU classes is generally good, but most of them are not particularly challenging. NYU in Paris gave me an incredible apartment to live in for the semester in a great location. Most of the students in the program seemed to be very happy with where NYU placed them in the city as well. Overall, I was very impressed with the way NYU dealt with housing in Paris. Overall, NYU in Paris is a very decent program. It was not so demanding that I was able to experience the way of life in Paris without being bogged down by work. Keep in mind that if you choose this program, you are not going to Paris for the academics, you're going for the cultural experience.

The people were very nice and a lot of fun. The campus puts this program ahead of all others in the area. It is like living in a museum the views and gardens were amazing. The two art classes I took were also both very interesting. They also don't care if you drink inside the villa which makes things fun.

Buenos Aires is an amazing city, weather is fantastic, this is an excellent program for someone considering a semester or year in Argentina.

My experience in Paris was some of the best few months of my life. The independence of NYUs program was exactly what I was looking for.

The program is way too expensive for what it offers. Although it is the only program with a campus, which is incredible, its not worth the money. Many other programs in Florence were a quarter of the price and seemed the same if not better. The NYU Campus in Florence was the only real standout point of the program

Most beautiful campus EVER. I liked it a lot. Helpful administration, lots of programs and field trips.

I definitely recommend NYU in Buenos Aires. Argentina is an amazing beautiful country and you're able to travel to neighboring countries, like Chile, Brazil, Uruguay, and Bolivia. The staff is super friendly and the classes help you immerse into the culture.

Studied finance in Shanghai at the East China Normal University. Amazing experience that everyone should have an opportunity to do.

Went for Music Composition.

Studied Linguistics and Arabic language here. The program was excellent in general, and especially since it was my first time traveling except as a tourist. I felt safe and welcomed both by the program and by Ghanians in general. Some people complained that NYU took care of us "too well" but it is certainly possible to immerse yourself in the culture if you take the initiative by: advice: take courses at Ghanian University as well as at NYU. Do an internship or community service.

AUP is a good place to have a Parisian experience, but only for a semester. After that its annoying and the Admin. becomes too difficult to deal with.

I went to Paris for Journalism and art history. It was great!

I really enjoyed the warm community feel of NYU in Madrid, and the professors were excellent. I was thrilled to be taking a course on artwork of the Prado museum, and to become immersed in Spanish culture. the only part of the program I didn't like was the trips that we were required to go on at the beginning; I felt that the administration was excessive in planning them.

It was amazing! Tons of opportunities to have fun and learn.

Where: NYUs faculty is located in a residential area so you are not near the center of Madrid or near the University of Madrid.<br /> <br /> My housing was excellent. Lived with a family in the barrio of Salamanca. Bit ritzy area so felt I didn't get the total experience of what life is like for everyday people living in Madrid or other barrios.

I put a 1 for party atmosphere because I didn't drink. It was the best experience of my life. I strongly recommend to students in British student clubs to get out of NYU bubbles. It's only the students who didn't venture out who ultimately felt disappointed.

Buenos Aires is an incredibly vibrant city and I have been having an amazing time. NYU in Buenos Aires is a very new program so they are still figuring out all the kinks. Since it is new, they don't have a variety of classes which may be disappointing for some people, especially those who are limited to English. Unlike other abroad programs, they have no affiliation with local universities and you can only take classes at the center. The attendance policy is also very strict here so you can't miss any classes. Classes are generally not that demanding work wise. Classes are only Monday-Thursday and are one hour and thirty minutes long. The people who run the program are very nice and will help you out with whatever you need. The social scene here is fantastic and you can always find people who are going out. Generally, most students tend to limit their nights out to the weekends. I would highly recommend homestays over the dorms because it helps people further immerse themselves in the culture. BA is a fantastic place but if you are not an independent person this program is not for you.

I had a great time but I wish there had been more interaction between British students and American students. NYU in London should not be a separate entitiy but rather a direct exchange. The dorms were very strict with visitors which made having friends over difficult. <br /> NYU did a great job taking everyone on some trips around England but I would have loved to have had more independence and the option of living independently.

I would definitely recommend the NYU program in Paris.

I spent my freshman year in Florence, Italy and I honestly loved it. The people were friendly, transportation was easy, and traveling to other cities was inexpensive. The La Pietra NYU program campus is beautiful.

It was a great program. I learned a lot academically and culturally. I also learned a great deal about myself & life.

Program was great; I had already gotten education in Italian, and going to Italy for the first time was good because the NYU program organized trips and excursions for us to see Italian culture, history & social life.

It was awesome. I wish I was still sitting drunk at Chapeau Rouge.

Although language immersion was minimal, it really made me realize how difficult it is for immigrants in the US who don't speak english, or other immigrants around the world. I learned so much about the culture and the people who live there. We had trips planned for us around the host country that were essentially free and very informative and fun. All the RAs were either Czech or Slovak, as were all the professors. Overall, it was my favorite semester this far!
