The experience perfectly combined both academic exploration with cultural expsoure. Antonio was a great guide who was available for us at all times of the day. There was effective communication between us, the students, and those in charge.

NOTE: i traveled to arcos with a college so they handled most of the logistics of payment and insurance and such. I took only Spanish with Arcos and it was a very nice class that I honestly wish we had for a longer period of time. Sometimes I wished it was as long as the excursions that we took, which were absolutely amazing and the Arcos team had deep insight so that our guide was never overwealmed by the amount of students/questions. They were able to translate and answer questions about Oaxaca during excursions and even recommend things to do/places to go during time off.

I had a great time in Oaxaca. Toño and Eva were such great facilitators of the program, and living with my host family—Gude and Ramiro, as well as their kids Veronica and Husai—was a really special moment in my life. I am eternally grateful that they decided to open their home to me and David.

It was good I enjoyed living with a host family and being immersed in Spanish for the most part. I was also frequently impressed with the sites we would go to. I never felt unsafe and the experience allowed me to bond with my classmates

This took me a long time to write because I wasn’t sure what to say. I had such a great time being part of this experience for two main reasons: visiting a new place and completing my internship. However, it was also very challenging for me for several reasons. I was sick during the first week and missed out on a lot, and I also faced some friendship issues along the way. Because of this, I wasn’t able to experience everything to the fullest. Despite these challenges, this trip allowed me to grow in ways I didn’t expect. I had to become more independent and confident in myself. I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and made new friends, which is something I am very proud of. I am so grateful that I took this opportunity. Being part of Casa Luz is something I will always cherish, and I only wish I had been able to spend more time there. It was beautiful to see the young mothers grow into their roles, balancing motherhood while still holding on to parts of their own childhood and identity. Although this experience may have been centered around lesson plans for the children, I felt it was just as much if not more for the mothers. I almost wish the focus had been more directly centered on them, since they participated so actively. Regardless of the challenges, it was truly an amazing experience, and I learned so much about myself through it.

I had a great time on the trip. Our guides did a wonderful job explaining the history and significance of each place we visited, which made the experience even more enjoyable. We were able to see and explore many incredible sites in Granada, Toledo, and Madrid, among other areas. Throughout the trip, we learned a great deal about Spain’s history, traditions, and the influence of different cultures, which made the experience both educational and memorable.

Arcos provides an academically enriching study abroad experience, fully immersing students in a new culture. My homestay interactions were excellent, though clearer communication about housing and meal preferences (asking students before making meals) would be helpful for future participants. The experience offered invaluable benefits, fostering deep appreciation for my life and teaching me the power of kindness. This trip is best for those seeking full cultural immersion, not a vacation. Be sure to save extra money for eating out, as costs add up quickly.

Andrea was an excellent, professional, knowledgeable, and personable director, ensuring clear communication and smooth operations throughout the trip. While the CELIUM lecture was sometimes hard to follow due to the language barrier, the overall experience was fantastic. Being immersed in the culture, learning about Costa Rican businesses, and enjoying the excursions made this an experience I will always remember.

While being away and the food were challenging, this study abroad program forces you out of your comfort zone, providing deep cultural insight into Costa Rica. Meeting the director Andrea was a definite benefit. I learned to be grateful for what I have at home becaue when you live with a host family abroad it may not be as luxurious as you are accustomed to. Be prepared as your hosts may not be fluent in English, so it helps to brush up on your Spanish.

Amalia was a wonderful homestay host—kind, easy to interact with, a great cook, and not overbearing. While navigating daily life in a Spanish-speaking country was challenging, the program instilled a greater appreciation for learning foreign languages.

I felt supported throughout the program, and it was a great way to experience Peruvian culture. The housing location and free water were extremely helpful. Key tips: bring a hat, rain jacket, and sunscreen. A constructive note: managing food allergies (like my gluten allergy due to soy sauce in some Peruvian dishes) would have been very difficult without the assistance of a Spanish-speaking, gluten-free student. Overall, a genuinely valuable travel experience.

The Arcos directors were very nice and dedicated, caring for every participant. The housing was good, though the eggs looked slightly unusual. Be sure to bring your own toilet paper to Cusco and find altitude sickness pills. Altitude sickness was a challenge, but I valued the benefit of seeing my family again. This was a meaningful academic and cultural experience.

Cesar was very helpful, particularly when I felt sick en route to the airport. Rodrigo provided excellent advice and treated us like friends; the whole group thoroughly enjoyed his input and attitude. It was an amazing experience that I will take with me for the rest of my life and career. All of the excursions we went on were a breath of fresh air, they were perfectly timed with our school schedule. Personally, for me, I loved spending more time after our excursions to do my own exploring on my personal time. I got involved in a lot of clubs and activities and made some life long connections with locals. I joined my university's football team, and it was an honor to be part of such a loved sport in Argentina. I got to meet people from all over the world in my classes, and the conversation club I worked for the majority of my stay there. The classes I took were absolutely amazing! I decided to take a tango class last minute through the university, and it is a completely different world. I got to learn the inner working mechanisms of what it really takes to be a tanguero. I learned more history about Argentina in my literature class more than my own country's history. The stories of this beautiful country came alive, and I saw aspects of this history all over, and in the streets of Buenos Aires. In my sociolinguistics class I learned the origins of lunfardo and how differently people speak and that this phenomenon exists globally. In my Spanish class I was really able to apply myself to learning the language more than I ever knew possible. All of the professors were amazing, as well as my director Raúl. I learned so many things from all of them from silly conversations to life lessons. My host mom was fantastic and she had so many words of wisdom, and always comforted me when I was feeling down (and made amazing food!). I will never forget this amazing experience, and Buenos Aires will always have a part of my heart as I felt so alive and enthralled each day I was there. Studying here for 4 months was worth the whole process, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I will always remember and return, my beloved Buenos Aires.

My biggest personal challenge in Granada was getting comfortable being independent. The greatest benefit of the program was the Spanish immersion to learn the language much faster. I would absolutely recommend this program to future students for an authentic and cultural experience abroad.

I studied abroad for the fall semester in Granada, Spain with Arcos. Although it is obvious that the program is a Spanish immersion one, I have to share that the German language instruction was great. This program is great for language learning beyond just Spanish.

I really loved living in this vibrant, lively city. I lived in really good parts of the city with plenty to do all of the time. I had many opportunities to better my Spanish, and I made some lifelong friends.

To begin with the positives, I felt as if this program was set-up to make sure students thoroughly got the most out of their time in Oaxaca, despite only having one month. We were able to go to all of the touristy spots, but also be introduced one where (and how to find) the hidden gems across the city! I feel like I definitely got to experience a lot of what Oaxaca had to offer within the month. And in addition to this, my coursework was very engaging and encouraged students to compare the class lessons with real life examples and current events. Through all of these experiences, it created a stepping stone for future adventures! My only issues were that some days were really packed and didn't seem like administration accounted for how tired students would be after 1 or 2 activities.

The instructors at the Universidad Mesoamericana and the UABJO were engaging, passionate, and supportive. Oaxaca's culture is friendly and welcoming, and I loved immersing myself in the local arts and simpler way of life. Future students should be sure to leave extra room for souvenirs!

The Arcos directors are super kind, they took us out to lunch before we left. Super sweet and welcoming. My host family was very kind. Their food was organic and they gave me a goodbye gift. My host mother even woke up at 2 am to make sure I got in the taxi safely to the airport. My advice is to prioritize school before exploration due to the extra curricular activities. Jonathan and Luis were exceptional tour guides! Jonathan brought great energy and was constantly at our service. Luis was knowledgeable, sweet, and went above and beyond, even helping with non-included events like Lucha Libre tickets and airport transfers. While the language barrier (Mexican Spanish vs. American Spanish) was a minor challenge, the overall benefits are huge—this trip looks great on resumes, encourages stepping out of one's comfort zone, and truly opened my eyes to the world.

The classes were awesome, and I genuinely suggest considering this program—it has a lot to offer, including a deep dive into the history of Mexico. A trip to Mexico City is highly recommended. The only constructive feedback is about the challenges finding restroom locations.

Isabel was an amazing director that always fun to talk to. I could always ask for help when I needed it, especially about transportation and food recommendations! Adela was a great homestay mom that would always make an effort talk to my roommate and I! She was always willing to help us out! Tips: Get prepared for jet lag and culture shock because it’s gonna happen and it’s gonna suck for the first few days. But also explore the city and try different things that you normally wouldn’t have at home, and try stay connected with friends and family back at home. The greatest benefits I had was meeting a bunch of different people from various places and getting to call them my friend in my program. Even for a short time, we were all in this together.

My directrors were super sweet, fun and kind. My host mom was amazing. She made my trip so magical. She is such a kind sweet woman and really made my experience so special. I had a great experience living with a host and gaining cultural experience.

My director was not only incredibly welcoming and kind, but also very knowledgeable about the places in Granada where she took us! She very effectively made our whole group feel like a family. Although he was only with us for a small part of the program, I got to know my other director quickly on a personal level. He knew a lot of the intricacies of Granada, like where to eat, find jazz music, and which parts of every beach were the best. Though a program coordinator, I would consider him a dear friend. The professors were very qualified in their subjects and would encourage student participation frequently. I had incredible luck to be hosted by Antonio and Carmen. Genuinely two of the kindest and most hospitable people I’ve ever met. If I return to Granada I hope to pay them a visit and give them a big hug.

The Arcos staff are very nice and helpful!! This was one of the best Spanish classes I’ve taken. The amount of work was not stressful and during class we had discussion which helped me learn so much. My host parents were very cute people --very nice and accommodating. My advice is to go to all of the cultural activities and excursions. Make friends with other people in you program get together with them outside of activities. Try and go other places on free days and explore. It’s okay to have chill days and not go anywhere too. This is a great program if you are open to experiencing a different culture, making new friends, seeing a differing part of the world and the completely different landscape, while using your Spanish in real context.

My Arcos director was very available and willing to help in any way necessary! Very knowledgeable and easy to talk with! I really liked the classes. My homestay was AMAZING! My director Isabel was absolutely incredible—very caring and considerate. During a tour at the Alhambra, she helped me manage my fear of heights, which I deeply appreciated. The program staff provided helpful reminders. I suggest classes offer a syllabus with grading breakdowns for better preparation. The homestay location was a 25 minute walk from the center. I did the Sustainable Business program with Arcos in Heredia, Costa Rica. The program included excursions to the beach and rainforest, a zip line tour, and of course classes in Spanish and English as well as the opportunity to do a one-month internship at the end of the program if you wish to.

I am so glad I did the Sustainable Business program in Costa Rica with Arcos. It combined Spanish class, Sustainable Business class in English, plus the opportunity to sign up for a full-time professional internship for the last 4 weeks of the program (this was optional). Great experience!

This program is absolutely worth it! The classes were super fun and informative. I loved my homestay family. Future students should focus on conversational vocabulary, as the accents and my roommate presented minor challenges. Overall, an amazing and perspective-changing experience!

I highly recommend Arcos for study abroad students. My homestay was a nice family, though improvements in house cleanliness, especially the bathrooms, would enhance the stay. While the food was good, more variety would be appreciated. Overall, a positive experience with constructive feedback for improvement.
