High School Study Abroad in Naples, Italy

Enjoy a week-long adventure soaking up the sun in southern Italy’s most sought-after destination. A beloved vacation spot for not only Italians but also Europeans, the Amalfi Coast is a treasure waiting to be discovered! This program, designed specifically for high school students (finishing grades 9, 10, 11, and 12), will take you on an Italian summer journey of a lifetime! You’ll experience the best of the coast, including crystal clear water, famous black sand beaches, stunning vistas, mouthwatering cuisine, and the laid-back Italian lifestyle. We’ll cruise down the Mediterranean on private boats, snorkel and swim in caves and waterfalls, stroll along the ancient roads of Pompeii, and take in the incredible beauty from atop the island of Capri. Join us for a week of fun in the Italian sun!

Join this amazing project and work alongside top researchers and an experienced crew as the boat sails through the waters around Naples, Italy. As part of the team, you’ll take turns scanning the waters as you try to find dolphins, whales, and other marine life. You may be asked to monitor the audio equipment, video equipment, or photography equipment both on deck and below deck to see the animals’ behavior underwater. When the encounter is over, volunteers will help enter the data into the computer system. The research done in this project is analyzed to provide crucial data to agencies that protect marine life and evaluate the effects of shipping vessels and fisheries on the marine ecosystem.

If you are interested in delving into the tombs of the lost Etruscan civilization and then unearthing your way back through the ruins of Rome, Sparta, and Athens, then this program is for you. As you walk in the footsteps of the great military leaders like Julius Caesar, Pompeii and Augustus you discover how their ruthless tactics of power politics are both revered and reviled to this day. Connections between the blood sports of the Colosseum to the modern MMA fighting lead to a comparison of the athletic competitions of Ancient Olympia to the modern-day Olympics. Each day we map human connections to our past as we discover how the ideas of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle laid the foundation to our modern thought, and explore how the plays of Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides established the storyboards to today's box office hits.
