Program Duration

Dates

  • Description

If your passion is medicine then this is a great opportunity to further your knowledge and gain practical experience. The time you spend on this project will be of huge benefit for when you go to medical school or may help you secure a place studying medicine at university.

You will be interning in one of Ulaanbaatar's leading hospitals under expert supervision. On arrival in Ulaanbaatar, an introductory session will cover basic professional skills as well as discuss Mongolian attitudes and ideas. The focus of the practical work will be at the Central University Hospital of Mongolia, the largest hospital in the country. You'll leave after experiencing medicine in the most remote city on earth and gaining valuable insight into rural community issues.

You will be taken to Terelj National Park where you will be able to see wild horses and ride a camel. The sights are spectacular! You will also get to experience a traditional Mongolian barbecue, which is a great time to socialize with the other volunteers and local staff.

Please Note: This project is only open to volunteers aged 16-19.

  • Highlights

Mongolia is a unique and adventurous place to spend time on a volunteer program or internship. Mongolia is a large country - about a third the size of Europe - sandwiched between Russia and China on the Asian Steppe. It's a country that conjures up images of far-off lands and a completely different pace of life. This image really is reality, in this land of Genghis Khan and wandering nomadic clans.

This is a destination for adventurers, with a history that encompasses Chinese dynasties and Soviet Communism. It's hard to imagine that this ancient state was once home to the people who ruled the largest empire the world has ever known - at one point stretching from Indonesia right over into Austria!

  • Projects Abroad's Mission Statement

As part of the global economy, Projects Abroad helps create local employment wherever we send volunteers. Employing local staff overseas and using their talents and knowledge is important to us. This local knowledge and support enables the organization to channel the skills of the volunteers from more affluent countries to regions around the world where they are needed. Volunteers also learn from their placements and the people they meet, and they gain experience in a chosen field. In the 21st century, we believe this mutual respect is what cultural exchange is all about.
