<h3>What inspired you to work for Nature Travel Namibia?</h3>
<p>My passion for birds, wildlife, and photography inspired me to join this organization. Years of working with horses sparked my interest in veterinary care. Having the opportunity to help oversee the Vets for Wildlife program feels like a dream come true. It allows me to combine my passion for wildlife, veterinary care, and conservation education—playing an active role in shaping an experience that truly makes a difference, thus making a meaningful impact while doing what I love most.</p>
<h3>Describe a typical day at work.</h3>
<p>A typical day in the office begins with checking emails, responding to inquiries, and engaging with potential participants interested in our student programs. Much of my time is spent researching and crafting fresh, exciting itineraries, updating our digital platforms, and ensuring all program details are accurate and inspiring. No two days are the same—especially when I'm out in the field. While on tour, the rhythm changes completely: early mornings are dedicated to tracking down key target birds for guests, followed by a midday break or packed lunch in a scenic spot, and afternoons filled with more birding, wildlife encounters, and guiding unforgettable outdoor experiences.</p>

<h3>What is your favorite part of your job?</h3>
<p>My deep love for nature drives everything I do. Researching new destinations feels like a virtual adventure, and guiding brings it to life. Sharing the excitement of a guest spotting a target bird or rare mammal—often one they didn’t expect—is incredibly rewarding. It feels like experiencing the magic for the first time all over again.</p>
<h3>What are some current projects you are working on?</h3>
<p>I’m currently developing exciting new tours that blend adventure with purpose—introducing more active experiences like hiking and mountain biking, all centered around nature and conservation. We're also expanding our range of ethical Conservation Tours that directly support and give back to wildlife protection efforts.</p>
<h3>What advice would you give your pre-travel self?</h3>
<p>Start exploring the world as early as you can—even if it means combining work and travel. Every journey, no matter how big or small, will broaden your perspective, build resilience, and spark passions you didn’t know you had. Travel teaches independence, empathy, and adaptability. Don’t wait for the “right time”—see as much as you can before the demands of adult life begin to take priority. Those early experiences will shape who you are and guide the path you choose later on.</p>

<p>We hope participants leave our programs with a deeper appreciation for wildlife, nature, and conservation. Beyond unforgettable sightings and experiences, we aim to inspire a lasting connection to the natural world—and a greater understanding of the importance of protecting it for future generations.</p>

<h3>If you could participate in one of your organization's programs, where would you go and what would you do?</h3>
<p>If I could participate in one of our programs, I would join the Vets for Wildlife program in Namibia. It offers a unique chance to work closely with expert wildlife veterinarians, gaining hands-on experience in wildlife health and conservation while exploring Namibia’s incredible natural landscapes.</p>
<h3>What questions do participants often ask you, and how do you typically respond?</h3>
<p>Participants often ask about the best times to visit, what wildlife they can expect to see, and how to prepare for the trip. We respond by providing detailed, personalized advice based on their interests and experience level, ensuring they feel confident and excited. We also emphasize our focus on ethical travel and conservation.</p>
<h3>Why is it important for people to travel abroad and experience new cultures?</h3>
<p>Traveling abroad and experiencing new cultures broadens perspectives, fosters empathy, and challenges preconceived ideas. It encourages personal growth, builds understanding between people, and inspires greater respect for diversity and the environment—helping create a more connected and compassionate world.</p>
<h3>What does meaningful travel mean to you?</h3>
<p>Meaningful travel means exploring the world responsibly—leaving little or no impact on the places we visit while immersing ourselves in authentic, enriching experiences. It’s about gaining deeper understanding and, whenever possible, giving back, especially by supporting conservation and helping protect the natural environments we cherish.</p>

<h3>What issues do you see in the world of international education that don’t line up with your values and expectations for mutually beneficial &amp; educational relationships between programs and the communities in which they are located?</h3>
<p>In international education, I often see programs that prioritize profit over genuine community engagement, leading to one-sided benefits that don’t truly support local needs. This conflicts with my values of creating mutually respectful, ethical partnerships that empower communities and foster meaningful, sustainable learning experiences for all involved.</p>
<h3>What qualities in program &amp; host community relations are essential to you? (And Nature Travel Namibia?)</h3>
<p>Strong program and host community relations should be built on mutual respect, transparency, and genuine collaboration. It’s important to us that partnerships empower local communities, honor their culture and knowledge, and ensure benefits flow both ways. This approach supports sustainable conservation efforts, wildlife protection, and the preservation of local ecology alongside meaningful education.</p>

<h3>What inspired you to work for your organization?</h3>
<p>I started <a href=https://www.goabroad.com/providers/nature-travel-namibia rel="" target="_self" class="link"><ins>Nature Travel Namibia</ins></a> and Namibia Vet Safaris as I felt that conservation tourism is a great way for people to give something back and get an in-depth look at what goes on behind the scenes in conservation work. Most tourists just travel through a country without ever learning more about true conservation work.</p>

<h3>Describe a typical day at work.</h3>
<p>My time is split between working with wildlife as a vet, training vet students, and spending time with conservation groups. I work with key conservation organisations that are doing research and rehabilitation work with wildlife, as well as take vet and biology students into the field, where they learn about wildlife conservation work. With conservation groups, we do a combination of tourism activities and conservation work.</p>
<h3>Why do you do what you do?</h3>
<p>I have lived in Africa my whole life and have always had a passion for wildlife and wildlife conservation. I have worked in both tourism and as a wildlife vet and realised that the two can be combined where there is a benefit for both wildlife, the conservation organisations, and the clients that join us on these tours.</p>
<h3>What is your favorite part of your job?</h3>
<p>When working with wildlife obviously to see a rehabilitated animal being released back into the wild. When working with students to really get them to understand what wildlife work is really about, and with clients to get them to understand what is involved with conservation work, and to share the highlights of Africa with them.</p>
<h3>How do you use your education and international background in your current role?</h3>
<p>I have traveled extensively, so I have a great understanding of what international clients think and would like to see and experience. Having qualified as a vet and having worked with all the major conservation organisations, I know what they need and where both parties can benefit. So we can combine the two to create a better future for wildlife.</p>

<h3>What challenges do you often face, and how do you overcome them?</h3>
<p>Conservation and wildlife veterinary work is expensive and requires a lot of funding. So we have to get tourists to understand the need for funding and how their contributions can really help save wildlife and allow conservation organisations to function properly and make a positive contribution.</p>
<h3>What are some current projects you are working on?</h3>
<p>With Namibia Vet Safaris, we have several conservation projects we support. We only work with worthwhile organisations that do actual conservation work and really want to make a positive contribution. We have several options, from learning programs for university and school students to vet training programs for vet and biology students, and conservation tours where we combine conservation tours with tourism.</p>
<h3>What advice would you give your pre-travel self?</h3>
<p>Just pack your things and go. Don't overthink it, as you will always find a reason why not to go or why now is not a good time. Once you start travelling, the whole world will open up. And once there, just get involved with all activities. You can sleep once you are back home. Start planning the next trip when the current one comes to an end.</p>
<h3>Why should someone choose your organization over competitors?</h3>
<p>At Namibia Vet Safaris and Nature Travel Namibia, we only work with conservation organisations that do actual conservation work and can give clients an in-depth learning experience. We have done this for a long time so we know what works and believe that with our experience, we are brilliantly positioned to offer clients the best possible life-changing and once-in-a-lifetime experience.</p>

<h3>What is your organization's mission, and how do you continue to work toward it?</h3>
<p>For Africa's wildlife to survive, we need to ensure that it has a value, and what better way than to take clients to these areas and the organisations that work in conserving the wildlife and land, where the financial contribution leads to a better future for wildlife.</p>
<h3>What do you hope participants take away from your programs?</h3>
<p>That they have learned what true conservation work is, what goes on behind the scenes, and that they feel that they have made a positive contribution towards wildlife conservation. Also, they have contributed to wildlife conservation and have had a life-changing experience, and off course have seen some of the highlights that the country has to offer.</p>
<h3>Why is it important for people to travel abroad and experience new cultures?</h3>
<p>Most people spend so much time online and on social media, and that is the only reference they have to conservation and wildlife, and there is so much more to it. What you see online and what is really out there is completely different, and once you start traveling, you will never stop and will want to keep learning.</p>
<h3>What does meaningful travel mean to you?</h3>
<p>I believe in value for money, so a trip where you pay a fair rate and get the opportunity to see the highlights from a destination, get a unique experience, and know that the money you invested also made a significant contribution to conservation and the future of wildlife and conservation areas.</p>

Based at a well-established Wildlife Sanctuary, the experience offers a mix of practical exposure and educational enrichment in the fields of wildlife medicine, ecology, and research.

Over the course of two weeks, participants will learn about Namibia’s unique wildlife, conservation challenges, and the role of veterinary support in managing both sanctuary animals and those in the wild. The program includes behind-the-scenes activities with the on-site vet team, and—depending on current cases—may involve overnight visits to nearby farms, conservation centres, or other sanctuaries to assist with medical treatment, rescues, or relocations.

Because the program responds to real-time needs, it is highly flexible. Students should be prepared to travel on short notice and adapt to the changing demands of veterinary and conservation work on the ground.

This unique trekking adventure offers an exceptional opportunity to contribute directly to the conservation of Namibia’s critically endangered desert-adapted elephants. It also supports the local communities that share this arid landscape.

The journey begins near the base of the Brandberg Mountain, Namibia’s highest peak, and travels northwest through sweeping dunes toward the dramatic Doros Crater. From there, the route heads west to the remote Hyena Camp before looping south to end at the scenic Ugab River. Spanning approximately 125 kilometers, the route winds through some of Namibia’s most remote and stunning desert terrain.

Participants can opt to walk during the cooler morning hours and use a game drive vehicle to travel between campsites during the hotter parts of the day.

Namibia’s desert elephants are specially adapted to survive in the harsh, dry landscapes of the Kunene Region. Their long-distance movements, large home ranges, and water-saving behaviors make them uniquely suited to this environment. These elephants are recognized by the IUCN as a conservation priority due to their ecological importance and vulnerability.

Just say yes and they will do the rest! We did a 2 week visit to Namibia- one week touring the beauty that the country has to offer- living desert tours, climbing sand dunes and visiting Dead Vlei. There were pockets of free time, and our guides help us make the best of it- exploring towns and kayaking with seals- outstanding!! The second week was safari rides with breathtaking animal sightings. Our guides were knowledgeable about the land and animal behavior. There was no question that they couldn't answer for us! The amount and variety of animals we saw during our time was incredible- herds of zebra at a watering hole, night sightings of rhinos and elephants, leopard and so much more! Our accommodations were first class throughout, and the tour company does a great job with lodging, food variety and being mindful of food allergies/intolerances. The attention to detail in planning the trip, outlining what we needed to do/where we needed to go was seamless. Once we arrived, all the decisions were fun. Highly recommend Nature Travel Namibia and will travel with them again. 

Incredible journey through Namibia, Botswana and Zambia with Nature Travel Africa. All of our questions and concerns were taken care of and answered in a timely fashion.prior to our trip. From pickup to drop-off all our needs were addressed. We had great guides who were well versed in the geography and animal behavior which led to amazing sightings. This included seeing the Big 5 in the first few days of the safari. I will be returning to Africa and will use Nature Travel Africa.
