The journey begins near the base of the Brandberg Mountain, Namibia’s highest peak, and travels northwest through sweeping dunes toward the dramatic Doros Crater. From there, the route heads west to the remote Hyena Camp before looping south to end at the scenic Ugab River. Spanning approximately 125 kilometers, the route winds through some of Namibia’s most remote and stunning desert terrain. Participants can opt to walk during the cooler morning hours and use a game drive vehicle to travel between campsites during the hotter parts of the day. Namibia’s desert elephants are specially adapted to survive in the harsh, dry landscapes of the Kunene Region. Their long-distance movements, large home ranges, and water-saving behaviors make them uniquely suited to this environment. These elephants are recognized by the IUCN as a conservation priority due to their ecological importance and vulnerability.
