Are you looking for an educational experience that’s truly out of the ordinary? Are you ready to take your learning further in one of the world’s most unique coastal environments?

The Lüderitz Blue School is a British Day and Boarding school in Lüderitz, Namibia, where the ocean meets the desert. We offer term abroad placements for high school students who are looking to expand their learning beyond the classroom.

You will join our school community for academic lessons as well as taking part in a range of extracurricular activities from sailing and rowing to camping and exploring the unique desert/ocean environment.

Our boarding houses welcome students and interns from around the world, offering a safe, vibrant, and inspiring home away from home. You’ll build lifelong friendships, explore the extraordinary natural setting of Lüderitz, and take part in hands-on projects that connect education with the environment.

Program Highlights

Live in Lüderitz’s historic boarding houses, sharing daily life with students from around the world.
Attend classes that blend core academic subjects with our special focus on ocean and environmental education.
Participate in field studies and research projects, learning first-hand about Namibia’s marine ecosystems, desert environments, and sustainable living practices.
Take regular excursions, from boat trips to kelp forests and peninsula camping expeditions, to multi-day journeys into the desert and national parks.
Build independence, resilience, and confidence by living away from home, contributing to the running of boarding life, and taking responsibility for yourself and your community.

What curriculum does the school follow?

The school covers the UK / Cambridge International Curriculum. All students at IGCSE level (Years 10 and 11) study English Literature and Language, Maths, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, French or Afrikaans, History or Geography and Marine Science as well as Art, Computing, PE and Performing Arts.

Is Namibia safe?

Luderitz, Namibia is a small, remote community and very safe. Crime levels are extremely low and as a small town, everyone knows each other and look out for each other. There is no malaria prevalent in Luderitz or other tropical diseases. The ocean moderates the climate so it is never too hot and never too cold. 

What will I be doing on my term abroad?

Our term-long residential programme is a life-changing adventure. You’ll join our international boarding community, follow a structured academic timetable, and immerse yourself in unique fieldwork and cultural experiences. You will join existing students in the classroom for academic lessons and participate in all the extra-curricular activities we offer from sailing and rowing to camping trips and boat trips to discover the kelp forests.
