Beach clean-ups, raft-building, and wildlife encounters are part of the timetable here.

You'll also lead clubs and activities, bringing your own skills and passions to a community of young learners who are curious, motivated, and culturally diverse.

The most amazing experience!

I was lucky enough to spend October and November 2024 in Lüderitz, Namibia, working at the Blue School. I stayed in the Blue House with Florrie, the other intern at the time, and we absolutely loved it. The Blue House has the most incredible view, and all of the boarders were so kind and welcoming. The entire teaching staff made me feel at home from the beginning, and Lüderitz itself is such a beautiful and unique town. During my time at the Blue School, I helped coach sailing, assisted in classes, and supported rehearsals for the school play, Treasure Island. Lüderitz has some of the most stunning scenery I have ever seen, alongside a very friendly and welcoming community. I also had the opportunity to travel to other parts of Namibia during half term and on weekends, which made the experience even more special. The Blue School is involved in so many inspiring projects, and the children are enthusiastic, welcoming, and passionate, a real pleasure to work with. I especially appreciated the balance between creativity, outdoor activities and classroom learning, as well as the opportunities for trips and hands-on experiences. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience that I would highly recommend.

Fantastic Professional Development Opportunity

What an amazing experience! I spent 6 months at the school as a qualified teacher and felt so welcomed, supported, and valued from the very beginning. The staff were incredibly friendly and professional, the students were enthusiastic and eager to learn, and the leadership team created such a positive environment to work in. The local environment in Lüderitz is absolutely breathtaking, making the experience even more special. There is a real sense of community spirit both within the school and the wider town, and it is something that is truly there to be embraced. I learned so much during my time there and would highly recommend the school to anyone considering working or learning there.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to all the most common questions about Luderitz Blue School.

What will I do as a Primary School Teaching Intern?

You'll work as a teaching assistant across our primary school — supporting teachers in EYFS, KS1, and KS2, delivering lessons, and working with small groups. You'll also get involved in our weekly Ocean Days and lead clubs or activities that let you share your own unique skills and passions with our students. Small class sizes mean your presence is genuinely felt from day one.

Where will I be staying in Luderitz?

Accommodation is provided in one of Lüderitz's historic buildings — a boarding house or guesthouse — all within walking distance of school. Expect a close community atmosphere, and stunning views of the South Atlantic coast.

Is Luderitz safe for international interns?

Namibia is one of the safest countries in Africa, and Lüderitz is one of its safest towns — a small, close-knit community with very low crime. There is no malaria or tropical disease risk, and the South Atlantic keeps the climate mild year-round: never too hot, never too cold.

What will I do in my free time in Luderitz?

Lüderitz is a nature-lover's dream — flamingos, springbok, oryx, and the elusive brown hyena on your doorstep. Visit the ghost town of Kolmanskop, take a boat trip to Shearwater Bay's kelp forest, or brave the (cold) South Atlantic. Enjoy camping, hiking, braais with colleagues, or a night out at the local bars. During school breaks, many interns road trip through the Namib. There is nowhere else like it on Earth.

Who is eligible for this primary teaching internship?

Open to adults of any age and all nationalities. Well suited to education or early years graduates taking their first classroom steps, experienced primary teachers looking for a meaningful international placement, and retired educators ready for a new chapter. No formal teaching qualification is required — a genuine love of working with young children and a willingness to get stuck in are what matter most.
