They told me language immersion would be intense,
November 10, 2025by: Isabella Nkosi - AustraliaProgram: GAC Chinese Language Immersion ProgramThey told me language immersion would be intense, but nobody mentioned I'd dream in Mandarin by week three. My Beijing mornings began with the scent of fresh baozi from my host family's kitchen and the musical chaos of morning conversations I slowly learned to decode. At university, our teacher Ms. Li didn't just teach characters - she revealed their stories, turning each lesson into archaeological dig through culture. The real classrooms became the hutong alleys where I'd bargain for pomegranates, the parks where elderly tai chi masters would adjust my posture while correcting my tones, and the karaoke bars where my new international friends and I butchered Chinese pop songs with glorious enthusiasm. GAC didn't just teach me a language - they gave me a new lens to see the world, and I'll forever hear Beijing's rhythm in my heartbeat.
Hi Isabella, What a beautiful and vivid description of your immersion journey—we're absolutely captivated by your words. Dreaming in Mandarin by week three is the ultimate sign of deep learning! It's incredible how you absorbed the language not just in class with Ms. Li, but in the hutongs, parks, and karaoke bars, making Beijing's rhythm a part of you. Thank you for letting us be part of your transformation and for sharing such a heartfelt experience. Warmly, The Go Abroad China Team
They say the best way to learn a language is to live it—and
November 10, 2025by: Atlas Cruz - United StatesProgram: Learn Chinese at China's Top UniversitiesThey say the best way to learn a language is to live it—and at Tsinghua University, I didn't just learn Mandarin, I breathed it. My days began with intensive language classes where passionate teachers deconstructed complex grammar into digestible lessons, followed by afternoons practicing calligraphy in sun-drenched courtyards. The campus itself became my classroom: debating politics with local students over cafeteria meals, joining spontaneous basketball games where the only common language was laughter, and discovering hidden tea shops where shopkeepers patiently helped me order. What surprised me most was how quickly the characters stopped being abstract shapes and started whispering stories of ancient civilizations. This program doesn't just teach you Chinese—it rewires your brain to hear the poetry in everyday conversations and see the calligraphy in Shanghai's skyline.
Hi Atlas, What a powerful reflection on your time at Tsinghua University—we love that you didn't just learn Mandarin, but learned to "breathe" it. It's incredible how the language came alive for you in classrooms, courtyards, cafeterias, and tea shops, transforming characters into stories and everyday moments into poetry. Thank you for sharing such a vivid and inspiring journey. Warmly, The Go Abroad China Team
My gap year in China unfolded like a carefully crafted novel
November 10, 2025by: Mio Tanaka - AustriaProgram: GAC Gap Year Learn Chinese & Internship in China ProgramMy gap year in China unfolded like a carefully crafted novel—each chapter brought new adventures, challenges, and growth. Interning at a sustainable architecture firm in Shanghai, I applied classroom Mandarin to real-world projects, collaborating with local experts on eco-friendly designs. Evening language courses at Tongji University turned daunting characters into familiar friends, while weekends were spent wandering ancient water towns or hiking sacred mountains. The GAC team seamlessly wove together professional development and cultural immersion, offering just enough guidance to keep me grounded while encouraging fearless exploration. I returned not only with advanced Mandarin and a robust portfolio, but with a renewed sense of purpose and global citizenship. This program is a masterpiece of experiential learning.
Hi Mio, What a beautifully expressed journey—we love the idea of your gap year unfolding like a novel, with each chapter blending sustainable architecture, language mastery, and sacred mountain hikes. It's wonderful that our team could help weave those experiences together, giving you both grounding and the freedom to explore. We're so proud you returned with not just skills, but a renewed sense of purpose. Thank you for calling it a masterpiece. Warmly, The Go Abroad China Team

I needed an experience totally different from what I would normally get back in Europe or in America, and so I looked toward Asia to get a fresh perspective. Naturally when you think of Asia, China stands out as an easy choice due to its prominence in Asia and the attention it is getting in the world.

I started learning Chinese back when I was a junior in high school and actually went to China to do a language study abroad language program, which was affiliated with my high school back in the U.S. From then, my trip to China really sparked my interest for an international future working career. So, last year I decided that I would go to China again and gain some much needed work experience, and an insight into China, given the fact that it is part of my university major. I applied for an international program as really a continuation from what I had already experienced during the time when I was in high school and first traveled to China.

Just like any other young person out there just out of university, the next step before actual formal employment is to take part in an internship to improve your job prospects and gain knowledge. I found myself with a particular interest in China and started researching what options were available, but ultimately the end result was to improve myself so that I could get the experience and move on further to some even better employment. Besides, I also needed a really fresh experience from the jobs that I have done back in Australia.
