India is the world's seventh largest country and home to more than a billion people. Hyderabad is the state capital of the Andhra Pradesh region in the south west of India. Now a major city with a thriving hi-tech industry, it dates back to the 16th century and provides a great introduction to everything that India has to offer. AIFS students attend the University of Hyderabad and take courses in anthropology, dance, Hindi, history, Islamic culture, literature, philosophy, politics, religion, social science, Telugu, Urdu, women's studies and Yoga.
The program fee covers the basics and the extras: tuition, housing, round trip airfare if selected, meals, cultural activities, 6-day Golden Triangle tour, and the services of a Resident Director.
Students live in a Study India Program guest house or homestay with three meals a day. The University holds a special orientation for Study Abroad students to introduce them to their new life at the University and in India. Orientation also includes information on housing, public transportation, travel, medical insurance, student life and activities in Hyderabad. Cultural activities are offered every week and may include walking tours of Hyderabad, visits to Golconda Fort and the Charminar, local markets and bazaars, concert performances, local Indian music and dance recitals, Indian cookery lessons and visits to Fortune 500 companies based in the area. Students also spend 6 days touring the Golden Triangle, with visits to the Taj Mahal and the city of Jaipur, the capital of the colorful Rajasthan region.
