India is the world's seventh largest country and home to more than a billion people. Hyderabad is the state capital of the Andhra Pradesh region in the south west of India. Now a major city with a thriving hi-tech industry, it dates back to the 16th century and provides a great introduction to everything that India has to offer. AIFS students attend the University of Hyderabad and take courses in anthropology, dance, Hindi, history, Islamic culture, literature, philosophy, politics, religion, social science, Telugu, Urdu, women's studies and Yoga.
The program fee covers the basics and the extras: tuition, housing, round trip airfare if selected, meals, cultural activities, 6-day Golden Triangle tour, and the services of a Resident Director.
As the modern capital of Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad embodies a confluence of Hindu and Muslim culture, offering a rare opportunity to experience the cultural traditions of both these faiths, while simultaneously living in a modern, cosmopolitan city. Get to know the city and local culture through a 3-day orientation and city tour.
Earn up to 16 credits from the University of Hyderabad, choose from a wide variety of courses including Islamic culture, international business, women's studies and information technology.
Historically, India has seen many different rulers come and go, achieving its independence from Britain as recently as 1947. Each of these cultures has left its mark, whether architecturally, spiritually or culturally. See this intriguing diversity at some of the most famous sites on a 6-day Golden Triangle tour and 4-day visit to Ajanta and Ellora.
Students may also apply for the Community Engagement Program as well. The objective of the Community Engagement Program is to provide students with the opportunity to develop an understanding of the current issues impacting on community life in India and to learn about a people-centered approach to social change. Students experience firsthand the role of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in various development initiatives while earning academic credits.
