Is there a TEFL exam?
Of course, there’s a TEFL exam! If you want your shiny new certificate, you’ll need to pass the TEFL exam provided through your program. Before signing up, make sure your program is internationally accredited! Accreditation is what qualifies you to teach around the world, and without it, your certificate will be totally useless, and you’ll have taken the exam for nothing.
How long does it take to get TEFL certified?
TEFL certification shouldn’t take less than 120 hours. If you’re getting certified abroad, this will probably be stretched over a month or two (or less if you choose an intensive program). If you’re getting your certification online, you should be able to set your own pace.
Keep in mind that anything advertised under 120 hours is most likely a booster or refresher course, and not meant for teachers who have no classroom or teaching experience. You’ll also find options that go way above 120 hours, which are great for people who intend to make teaching abroad their long-term career.
How long does TEFL certification last?
Forever! Yep, you read that right. If you get TEFL certified through an accredited program, your certificate should be valid for life. Sounds like a great investment to us!
What will I learn when getting a TEFL?

At the age of 42 I never thought I would be studying another field completely. Compared to the long 3 years I studied at university for Interior Design, I found this far more enjoyable. The submissions were a bit challenging, doing them alone without teaching experience but the tutors were very helpful. I appreciate that the responses to my tickets were prompt. I had such amazing support and encouragement from each tutor that I was in contact with. I do feel the actual website needs some work. When submitting an assignment, you have to go and scroll all the way to the bottom of the page. Its a bit time consuming. This could be made shorter. I would enrol in that if I can but the 120 hours course is very strong despite this. There is detail in the text and valuable informacion that we can use to make us stronger teachers. I let AI help me out with this one, which I've found has worked out every time I've done that, though my sample size is only 3 right now! The teflmasters website looked legit when I clicked the gpt link, and the accreditor OTCC checked out, so off I went with payment. After paying, you click through to their LMS and get going with the course. I waited a few days before getting into the modules, which I found took anywhere from 2 to 4 hours to get through. 120 hours is feasible, though I doubt anyone reads everything twice and watches all videos and all the other things. The text is really detailed and has lots of teacher tips and stories related to the topic, and there are many different types of learner groups covered as well as online teaching. I doubt I'll ever teach online, but I guess it could be handy if ever something like covid hits again. On the topic of AI, one review I read mentioned AI video voice, but there wasn't a single AI video that I saw or heard. The staff mentioned to me on an email that the text had been grammar and spelling checked with grammarly AI, which explains why there aren't any errors in anything I read, but the audio thing had me a bit puzzled. They potentially did have and then changed it. I personally wouldn't have an issue with AI narration or images if they helped me, but it was a nice touch having human narration, even if I only listened to it for the trickier modules when I wanted a review without reading. Honestly, I think the only thing missing is images, and if they're reading this review I'd say the only thing missing is a few choice images (though maybe not gifs!) in your text, AI or not. Regardless, I think the amount that I got for my money here was brilliant, so this is by no means a deal breaker. This is a great course with staff who seem to really care about their training quality. I hope this review helps. Thanks
