Silk Mandarin's Online Chinese Course

Learning at Silk Mandarin is a great experience! The teachers are very knowledgable, encouraging, and accomodating. The location is super convenient to get to and the building and classrooms are welcoming. Apart from the part-time lessons they also hosted a Mahjong session which was super fun. I'll definitely return for HSK-2. Highly recommend!

I studied at Silk Mandarin for a year now. All the teachers are great and make lessons engaging. My current teacher, Yanqin 老师, is an exceptional Mandarin teacher. Although our lessons are online, she makes the lesson really engaging and ensures that she relates content to her students’ individual interests, experiences and daily lives. She teaches me difficult content in clear and digestible parts so I can learn and build on that knowledge myself. Doing private lessons allows me to tailor the lesson to learning Mandarin I need in my everyday life, needs and goals. After trying other Mandarin centres in Shanghai, I recommend Silk Mandarin. As an overseas educator myself, I recommend Yanqin 老师. I particularly respect her teaching practices, professionalism and commitment to making learning meaningful for every student. She is passionate, approachable and highly skilled at helping students build both confidence and practical language ability.

I’m on my way to the end of hsk 2, and I feel very confident about how my Chinese has been improving. The best thing about Silk Mandarin is how flexible they are, when building the best and individual plan that fits into our needs! The teachers and staffs are very kind and helpful. I’ve had classes with 3 different teachers and all of them are very professional, matched our speed but at the same time, influences us to practice the more we can. I’ve signed up for the 1:1 classes that are done online and it’s been absolutely amazing. I had zero prior experience in Mandarin and I have to say I’m impressed with the results but also with the process. I have access to an online platform to prepare for my classes and do some work to revise what I’ve previously learned. That helps me get the most out of my 1:1 time with my teacher. She’s great at focusing with me on the areas where I need extra help but also provides amazing insights into Chinese daily life and culture. I really couldn’t ask for a better course, especially because Silk Mandarin is flexible enough to work around my schedule. I couldn’t recommend them more.

Silk Mandarin is an excellent resource for learning Mandarin Chinese. I am at about HSK2 level, and had a lot of mandarin vocabulary, grammar, word order, and phrases swimming around in my head from a lot of self-study. Their "Slow Motion Technique" really helped me to order my existing information and knowledge into something that was logical and understandable, so I could untangle complex grammar to allow me to actually speak in real Mandarin sentences and understand real Mandarin conversation. Combined with an excellent teacher (Christina), I have found it to be practical approach to Mandarin learning, and I would highly recommend it.

At first, I was trying to find a chinese course to start and just learn a little bit of it and see If im interested in doing it for a long time, then I found Silk Mandarin and everything has gone smoothly since the beginning. I have teacher Christina and she has been so patient and helpful during this process, teaching me in different ways about grammar, vocabulary and also teaching me about the realistic things I would encounter in a normal conversation in China. It made me fall in love with the language and want to continue learning more and more, I will definitely continue with them and will recommend to anyone who is thinking on starting. There is a lot of practice, resources and guidance so you won't feel lost and it will actually make it feel easier.

I have used Silk Mandarin previously and am using them again because they are consistently the best language school in China. So far I have completed HSK1 and am in the middle of HSK2. The teachers are very kind and are excellent teachers- I have learned so much in a short space of time. Laoshi Sisi is always professional and the lesson materials are comprehensive and really visual. Sisi is always very well prepared for the lesson and I feel like I learn new things, plus there are lots of recaps throughout the lessons. The price is excellent for what you get. I will definitely stick with SilkMandarin to continue my Chinese language journey.

I have really enjoyed my learning experience with Silk Mandarin. I did this program from home in the United States. If you are frustrated with outdated learning models like I was try Silk Mandarin. When I first started to learn I was curious about the language and culture. I was learning for personal enrichment and to be able to travel to China one day. I picked a teacher here in the United States who used a text book that was very old. Also, it was about college students only and I found the conversations boring. Additionally, if I got a tone wrong or mispronounced a word more than once I was told to study more and I started to feel bad and didn’t want to go anymore. Then I saw a casual conversation on Instagram from Silk Manderin advertising language learning. The people were diverse and were having a normal fun conversation. That was over two years ago now. I love meeting with my teacher as she is cheerful and fun. She encourages me to do better without making me feel bad. I am finally able to read and understand basic things. I can even write some characters. I can practice with the online platform and I find it modern with a variety of conversations. I can really enjoy learning the language. I believe we should all try to learn about different cultures.

Silk Mandarin was highly recommended to me by a colleague and it has not disappointed. Yanqin is an extremely professional teacher who is diligent and facilitated excellent 1-on-1 online classes. I've been struggling for a while to study Chinese - never really found anything that worked for me. I found Silk Mandarin beginning of this year and I have only been studying a month or so, but I feel excited to study now! My pronunciation and my tones were very poor and my teacher has been so patient and she has the most interesting ways to explain, so I can understand. I am french and I'm currently learning Chinese with Silk Mandarin and I'm extremely satisfied. My teacher, Yanqin, is an excellent instructor. I also find the method very effective. There are practice sessions to complete before and after each lesson to reinforce what you've learned. I've never progressed so quickly in language learning. Of course, I have two 90-minute sessions per week and I also study on my own to consolidate my knowledge. But Silk Mandarin provides all the support and guidance I need. I had always wanted to start learning Mandarin because it genuinely interested me. I already have lots of experience with European languages, but I wanted to branch out and challenge myself with something completely different, and Chinese had always tickled my fancy.
