Empower kids to dance their hearts away down in Cape Town with a Youth Development Internship! Join an organization making a difference for South African children by helping them express themselves freely through dance, and helping them enter an amazing world of self-discovery. This organization’s goal is to guide children to develop confidence and important life skills using the power of dance and educational workshops. You’ll contribute to their work by researching the specific needs of children in the area and later tailoring educational content to address these needs effectively. You’ll be involved with developing and executing a varied curriculum that discusses topics such as: sex education, abuse, personal hygiene, health and nutrition, and empowerment. Overall you can expect to gain practical work experience in youth development, education, and curriculum design.

What is the living situation for interns?

Should you choose to travel to Cape Town, your accommodation is included in the fee with various options. Whether you choose a shared or single room, you’ll be housed at a location that is used by other like-minded individuals; students, volunteers, interns, and travelers alike. What are the requirements to apply for the internship?

The most important aspect for the intern is to have an adaptable and positive attitude, as well as having confidence in working with groups of children. Having previous experience in education or working with kids isn’t necessary, but it would be advantageous.

Is there a stipend or other form of compensation provided?

Unfortunately, internships at Roots don’t provide any kind of compensation. However, we do encourage interns to apply for external scholarships to help financially support themselves throughout their stay in Cape Town.
