Program Overview

The HELP Literacy Coordinator is one of OCN’s four Project Coordinator roles. You will plan and deliver weekly reading and writing classes for children at the REC in Cerrito de la Virgen, helping them strengthen their Spanish literacy. You will also brief and guide a small team of volunteers.

As a hands-on role, it offers strong exposure to Spanish, making it ideal for Spanish speakers or volunteers wishing to improve their language skills.

The Literacy project requires only a few hours per week; the rest of your time will be spent supporting other OCN initiatives for a total of around 25 hours/week. Activities may include HELP English, HELP Youth, HELP Environment, Global Glow, homework support at the REC, English classes in local schools and the library, assisting at the dog shelter, or supporting small community projects.

This role is perfect for those who want to work with children while gaining insight into NGO operations. Living in Huanchaco, a friendly surf town near Trujillo, also offers a rich cultural experience.

All volunteer roles can be taken as internships, with additional mentorship and coordination with your academic institution.
