Frequently Asked Questions
What is the accommodation in Panama like?
Volunteers stay in a newly built dormitory-style house near the project site. It has simple but comfortable rooms: one queen bedroom and two 4-person bunk rooms (accommodating up to 10 people). Its amenities include two shared bathrooms, a communal kitchen, living room, and terrace. Fans are provided. Staff clean the house and wash bed linens regularly.
Located near the water, the area offers relaxing natural beauty and enjoyable activities.
What happens after my arrival?
When you arrive, you will be shown around the house, introduced to the team, and have a chance to settle in. You will receive a project orientation and explanation as to what to expect over the coming weeks, and officially begin work as a volunteer on your first full day at the project (the day after arrival).
What are my main tasks?
Volunteers choose from four marine conservation programs, each with a unique focus. You can combine them, but you must spend at least two weeks per program for training and data collection. Programs include Coral, Sponge, Fish, and Invertebrate Conservation. Each day features theoretical classes, dives to apply lessons, data entry in the afternoons, and guided fun dives for exploration.
Is it possible to have vegetarian/vegan meals?
Yes, the program offers three meals daily from Monday to Saturday, with vegetarian options available upon request. Although lunch and dinner are prepared for you by a local cook, breakfast is self-serve. Sunday is the cook’s day off, and you can explore some of the delicious offerings of local cafes and restaurants.
How big is the group?
The project accommodates ten volunteers at a time. Since there are four program focuses, your diving group will likely be around two to four students, with one diving instructor.
