The Palestinian Center - Go Palestine

I learnt so much about the realities of life in Palestine at Go Palestine, but from a place of relative comfort. The centre is in the heart of the city of Hebron, and from here, it's relatively easy to get to places such as Hebron Old Town (where the Ibrahimi Mosque or Cave of the Patriarchs is), the farming village of Al Burj, Al-Aroub Refugee Camp. My favourite aspect of my experience are the people. I was only here one week but now it feels like I'm leaving my family. Can't wait to come back.

The people at Go Palestine are all very helpful, kind, good communicators, and have very good knowledge and insights. The advanced coordination and information was very helpful so I had more idea of what to expect. I also left my mind open to see what would happen and go with the flow. My Arabic classes were good. Giving English classes was fun but a little chaotic as I do not have experience with this, and when we had a large group of students, it was hard to manage the dynamics. My visits with healthcare and environmental professionals were very insightful in helping me understand how the systems are working in Hebron and in Palestine in general. It was really an honor to have time with these professionals who care so much about their work and their patients or the environment here. They are also facing challenges due to the political situation and it was helpful to understand that more. The visit to the old city was wonderful and also helps me understand the current situation. I had a fun cooking class and was happy to learn how to make Maqluba. It was delicious! In Hebron, I was never uncomfortable except for the hot weather which of course no one can control. I felt Hebron is safe and peaceful. I asked people when I needed something and they were always willing to help. It has been a great experience!

It has been really nice to get to know people from Palestine, speak with them and understand the actual situation. The center provide me of different activities that made it possible. Thank you. The arabic classes are really useful and you can use what you learn in the streets and shops. The volunteers are really nice and kind.

I had an amazing experience during my time here. One of the highlights was teaching English to local children. This was such a fun and rewarding experience, and seeing their enthusiasm made the lesson memorable. I also had the opportunity to take part in meaningful cultural exchanges with local people. Everyone I met was incredibly welcoming, kind, and eager to share their stories and traditions, which made my stay even more special. I took Arabic classes as well, and Tala was absolutely wonderful. She has a fantastic way of breaking down vocabulary and grammar into simple, easy to understand explanations, making learning Arabic much less intimidating and genuinely enjoyable. As a solo female traveler, I felt very safe throughout my stay. The support, hospitality, and genuine care I received gave me confidence to explore and fully enjoy the experience. I would highly recommend this program to anyone looking for a meaningful combination of volunteering, language learning, and cultural immersion. It was an unforgettable experience that I will always treasure.

I participated in the Online Media in Palestine crash course with Miss Heyam, and it was a very informative and eye opening experience. One of the most important things I learned is that Palestinian media operates under very complex conditions, where journalists often face restrictions on movement and access to certain areas while trying to report the news. Miss Heyam was an excellent instructor who explained these challenges clearly and shared many real examples from her experience working in Palestinian media. Her insights helped me understand how journalists continue to document stories and events despite these difficulties. The course was interactive, and I appreciated the opportunity to ask questions and learn directly from someone working in the field. I highly recommend it :)

The program is a great cultural exchange, learning arabic and conversing with students. I would definitely recommend to book some of the extra activities, be it visiting Nablus or Jericho, or visiting the camps. The human rights course was particularly valuable from my perspective, and seeing the joy on the kids' faces when distributing toys is a memory that will stay with me for a long time. The staff here was very attentive to my needs and flexible with the schedule due to current situation (war with Iran), so I felt very safe.

I joined the Online Crash Course on Human Rights, and it was a very insightful experience. The course included three online sessions led by Ziad, a Palestinian lawyer based in Hebron. What made the course especially valuable is that Ziad works on the ground and deals directly with human rights cases. During the sessions, he explained the legal situation and the reality of human rights violations that Palestinians face in the area. One topic that really stood out to me was when he explained the situation in Masafer Yatta, where many Palestinian communities are facing displacement and legal challenges. Ziad shared detailed explanations about the legal processes, the challenges people face in the courts, and the broader human rights implications. Hearing about these issues directly from a lawyer who is actively working with affected communities made the sessions very powerful and real. The course was interactive, and I had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss different topics related to international law and human rights. It helped me better understand the complex reality on the ground. I highly recommend this online course to anyone interested in human rights, international law, or learning more about the situation in Palestine from someone who is directly involved in the field.

As the title states, this experience has been life changing for me. I was able to meet amazing people who were so kind and welcoming when they don't know me from adam. I made life long friends here who i will forever hold closely in my heart. The center is a great place to give back to the people whether it's teaching English or going to the camp & handing out toys to children. The activities set up for you throughout your stay keep you occupied and really immerse you in the culture and lifestyle of Palestine. I can not recommend the volunteer program enough. To anyone who is interested in volunteering I say, "Do it.", you will not regret your decision.

It was a powerful and eye opening experience for me. It helped me understand the reality of daily life in the West Bank beyond what I had read in the news. In Hebron and Halhul, we met inspiring activists and local organizations working in human rights and community support. Listening to their stories made the situation feel very real and personal. One of the most impactful visits was to Masafer Yatta, where I saw the threats families face from nearby settlers. It was difficult to witness, but important to see the reality on the ground. This internship gave me deeper knowledge, perspective, and respect for the resilience of the Palestinian people. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to understand the conflict from a human perspective.

I joined the Law Internship, and it was a very good experience for me. I worked with Mr. Zaid, a lawyer in Hebron. He was kind, professional, and always ready to explain things clearly. I did not only sit in the office, I learned by watching and asking questions. He showed me real cases and explained how the legal system works in Palestine. One of the best parts was going with him to the courts in Hebron, Halhul, and Dora. I attended court sessions and saw how lawyers speak in front of the judge. After each visit, Mr. Zaid explained what happened and answered my questions. This helped me understand everything better. This internship gave me real experience and helped me learn a lot about law in Palestine. I highly recommend this program to anyone who wants practical legal experience.

I took an online arabic course with Ms. Dalia, and it was a very good experience. Ms. Dalia is patient and kind. She explains things in a simple way and makes you feel comfortable speaking, even if you make mistakes. One lesson I really remember was when we practiced ordering food in Arabic. We did a role-play where she acted like a restaurant worker, and I had to order in Palestinian dialect. It was fun, but also very helpful. I still remember the phrases because we practiced them in a real-life situation. She also explained the grammar clearly and gave examples that were easy to understand. The lessons were organized, and we always reviewed what we learned before. After the course, I feel more confident speaking Arabic. I highly recommend Ms. Dalia to anyone who wants to learn arabic in a supportive way.

I had an amazing time meeting people here in Hebron. The people were warm, curious and so generous. I felt included and taken care of and fully immersed in the culture. Late night coffee, sheesha and sweets. The local teenagers were fun to talk to. The experience with the children and educators in the Al Roob refugee camp was eye opening. I will definitely be back.

Coming to Palestine is a truly life changing experience. I got to go and hang with kids in the Al-Aroub refugee camp and speak with many locals about their daily lives and hardships. I learned some conversational Arabic from the best teacher, Tala. The hospitality I received with open arms from the locals was heart warming. I will never forget my experience here. Walking the streets at night during Ramadan was one of the biggest culture shocks and eye opening things I've ever been able. Shukran

I spent three weeks volunteering with refugees in Palestine and it was a truly life changing experience. My main task was teaching conversational English to kids in a group camp, and watching them gain confidence and laugh while learning was incredibly rewarding. The local staff helped us connect with the community respectfully and safely. I left with new friendships, a deeper understanding of Palestinian culture, and a feeling that my time there genuinely made a positive impact. Highly recommended :)

Volunteering in Hebron and working with Palestinian refugees in Al Fawar Camp was one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. I taught conversational English to children, and our classes were not just about studying. We learned through games, speaking activities, and fun interactive exercises. The kids loved to participate, laugh, and try new words, even if they were shy at first. What really touched me was the strength of the refugees, especially the children. Their lives are not easy, but they come to class with so much energy, hope, and excitement to learn English. It was fascinating to see how motivated they were. They truly believe education can help them build a better future. The children were friendly, smart, and full of life. Every day I could see their confidence growing. Even small things, like being able to introduce themselves in English or play a word game, made them so proud. That feeling stays with you. This experience was not only about teaching it was about connection, sharing, and learning from each other. I left with so much respect for these kids and their resilience. You don’t just teach, you learn about strength, kindness, and hope.

My internship at Go Palestine was truly a great experience. I did not only learn a lot about the human rights situation, but also about the Palestinian culture in general. Everybody at Go Palestine was very friendly and hospitable!

I joined the Intensive Arabic course in Hebron without knowing a single word of Arabic. Honestly, I was nervous before coming because the language looked difficult and completely new to me. But from the first week everything felt easier than I expected, mainly because of my teacher, Ms. Dalia. Ms. Dalia is one of the kindest and most patient teachers I’ve ever met. She understood that I was starting from zero and she never made me feel embarrassed when I made mistakes (which happened a lot at the beginning!). She explained things slowly, repeated them as many times as I needed, and always encouraged me to try speaking even when I wasn’t confident. One moment really stayed with me. I remember sitting in class trying to read Arabic letters that looked impossible to me just days before. Suddenly I was able to read a full sentence on my own. It sounds small, but for me it was huge. That was the moment I realized Arabic isn’t scary, it’s actually a really cool and beautiful language. After that, I became excited every day to learn more instead of feeling stressed. What helped a lot was also being surrounded by Arabic outside the classroom. People in Hebron were very supportive and happy to help me practice simple words. Step by step, I felt real progress. I’m really grateful for this experience. Starting from scratch and reaching a level where I can read, understand, and communicate basic Arabic in just a short time felt amazing. I would definitely recommend this program to anyone who wants a serious but very warm and supportive Arabic learning experience.

I joined the Human Rights Internship with Go Palestine for three weeks, and it was an eye-opening and meaningful experience. During the internship, I met several local human rights activists, especially Mr. Ahmad, who was very informative and open. He took the time to explain the human rights situation in Palestine in a way that felt real and grounded in everyday life, not just theory. Besides the field visits, I also had English conversational classes with Palestinians, which were one of the highlights for me. These sessions felt more like real conversations than classes and allowed for genuine exchange, shared stories, and different perspectives. I also had Arabic lessons with my wonderful teacher, Dalia. She was patient, encouraging, and made learning Arabic enjoyable, even when it was challenging. These lessons helped me connect more deeply with the people and the culture. Overall, this experience helped me understand the human rights situation in Palestine on a much deeper level. It was not just educational, but personal. I would strongly recommend this internship to anyone who wants to learn, listen, and engage directly with the local community.

Volunteering in the West Bank and teaching English was one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. The focus on conversational English made the classes feel natural and alive. We talked about daily life, culture, traditions, and personal experiences, which helped students feel more relaxed and less afraid of speaking English. At the beginning, many students were shy, but little by little their confidence grew. They started speaking more freely, laughing, and sharing their opinions without worrying too much about mistakes. One moment I will never forget was when we were practicing everyday conversations and a student confidently said, “Yesterday I cooked my phone instead of my food.” The whole class burst into laughter, including the student, and it turned into a great lesson about mistakes being part of learning. What stayed with me the most was the genuine connection with the people. Sharing stories, jokes, and small moments during class created a strong sense of trust and mutual understanding. This experience was not just about teaching English, it was about learning from each other and growing together. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to do something meaningful, connect on a human level, and truly understand daily life in the West Bank.

I volunteered for two weeks, teaching children in Al Arroub Refugee Camp, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The children’s energy and enthusiasm for learning were incredibly inspiring. Through this opportunity, I gained deep insights into Palestinian culture and felt a genuine connection with the local community. I highly recommend this program to anyone seeking a meaningful and impactful experience.

I joined the Education systems in Palestine internship to gain an understanding of how occupation impacts education systems however I had limited exposure to schools due to it being the holidays and exam seasons. I wished I had known about this in advance as i felt i was only able to do a very limited amount but i wasnt told. Despite booking 3 months in advance nothing had been organised prior to my arrival and the program was quite disorganised so i was only able to teach at the university for 8 days out of the 4 weeks i was on the program. I wouldn't consider this an actual internship but more of a cultural exchange trip. however, the good things were meeting other volunteers and travelling around palestine. i made amazing friends but i dont think i needed to be on this program to do that.

I'm mind that Go Palestine it's a good project for a know a Palestinian People and opportunity for search your daily live. I mind the project in the refugge camps need previous work in the center. But it's a good volunteer project.

Volunteering with Go Palestine was a wonderful experience. I helped teach and support refugee children, and it was so rewarding to see them happy and learning. The team was very helpful and made me feel safe. I also learned a lot about Palestinian culture and met wonderful people. I highly recommend this program!

I volunteered with Go Palestine for a month, teaching conversational English twice a week at a community center in a refugee camp. My main work was to get the kids and teenagers talking. We played games, practiced simple conversations, and sang songs. The goal was to build their confidence to speak. It was challenging but so rewarding. Seeing a shy student finally say a full sentence with a smile was the best feeling. Teaching just twice a week was perfect. It gave me time to prepare good lessons and also to visit families, explore with the center's staff, and really understand the community. The people in the camp were incredibly strong and generous. They taught me about their culture and daily life. This wasn't just volunteering; it was a real human exchange. If you want to make a direct, personal impact and learn more than you ever could from a book, do this program. You won't forget it!!!

I came to Palestine for one month. I did the volunteer with Go Palestine for one month. My program was to teach English at the refugee camp. However, the expectation was not met as I did not teach, I went to the camp a total of 3 times and only did tours of classrooms. I was expecting to go at 3 times a week. Other than that, in the centre, I met great international and local people. I was able to make memorable experiences with them.

Arriving here and being in Palestine for the first time (def. not the last time) of my life, I felt very nervous at first. However, the moment I stepped into the center all the nervousness disappeared. I came just in time for breakfast and immediately got to meet the other volunteers and the organizers of our programs. It felt like meeting your family that you only see once or twice a year - a very warm welcome! The program itself was a bit different from what I originally imagined- more city tours, more factory visits, ... . which was a very enriching as well and allowed a deeper understanding of life and work here in Hebron! Also, I was lucky to be placed in a host family from the program which was a true blessing. The Arabic lessons were well structured and allowed me to choose my focus (topic of conversation etc.). All in all the experience with GoPalestine was very eye opening (its one thing to hear about the occupation and life and a total different feeling to actually see and "experience" it ). Would recommend.

this experience in Palestine was not just a trip, a "volunteering experience" to add to a resume. It was real, human, and deeply transformative. I don't return home with the feeling of "having helped", but with somnething much deeper. A new prospective, genuine human connections, and the awareness that even a small gesture, when truly lived, can leave something good behind. This is not an experience you simply go through. It goes through you. And it stays.

I volunteered for two weeks with Go Palestine, teaching English to local students helping them strengthen communication and speaking skills. I was also given Arabic lessons with a focus on local communication. The volunteer program included visits to refugee camps which offered first-hand insight into the resilience and daily challenges faced by displaced families. We visited the University of Hebron and spent an hour talking to students in an Applied English class, and visited the University Art and Book fair. A visit to the Palestinian Family Planning Centre highlighted vital community support services, broadening awareness of social development efforts. Another highlight was a day visiting Ramallah, and the Yasser Arafat museum which showcases the history of the Palestinian people. The entire experience has been incredible, I have learned so much and met amazing people, I'm already planning my next visit!

The camps were extremely eye opening to the daily life of refugees and the history of the area. Each camp was unique and had a stories that they shared with us. We were able to see the schools in the camps and hand out toys to the children. I recommend the program to anyone that is interested in learning more about the history, culture, or daily life of the Palestinian people.

Visiting the refugee camps was very eye opening, it was sad to see the conditions the people had to endure but they did it with a smile. The people there were so warm and welcoming, so many of them would invite you to their home for tea or something to eat. Seeing their daily life was a very humbling experience.

I was in Hebron for 1 week, i ve enjoyed the time there so much, the people were amazing and the staff of Go Palestine were too, we had some infrastructural problems with the appartment but the staff was ready to help us in all the ways we needed. The thing i enjoyed the most was the people i ve meet in this period, i had the possibility to share experiences with the other guys in the program and with the local people, i think i learned a lot about Palestine situation and culture and i think i will remember this for my entire life

The week I've spent in Khalil with Go Palestine feels, at the same time, an incredibly short period and a very long one. Short, because there's so much more I would like to do here, and long, because every day is filled with activities and experiences, and you feel like you're living life at the fullest. Over the days I've stayed here, I have met some incredible people whom I hope to see again, both international volunteers and locals. I knew I was going to meet some welcoming people, but the level of friendliness and hospitality you get is almost overwhelming! You truly get to feel like you are part of the family, both at the Centre and with the friends you make here. When it comes to the experiences you can make, the support of the staff is amazing, they are there to make sure you get to see as much as you can and do as much as you can, according to your skills and interests, never pushing you anyway. Moreover, you get to learn Arabic, if you stay long enough. So, I can't recommend Go Palestine enough!

My experience with Go Palestine was incredibly rewarding as it was my first time in the region and they made me feel so welcome. Prior to arriving, I was concerned about safety but that feeling quickly left as I was consistent greeted with kindness and care. As for my specific internship, I witnessed and learned quite a lot about the experiences and day-to-day life of Palestinians in the West Bank. I visited refugee camps and how conflict is impacting the lives of those who are displaced. I visited multiple organizations that are working to stabilize and improve their communities. I gained so much insight into what is happening and I highly suggest for anyone to do the same! You won't regret it!

My Experiences in Hebron Gwen Geirionydd, 04/10/2025 1) About me The name I use in Palestine is Gwen Geirionydd, the latter being the beutiful location in North Wales where I live. It has a history of poetry and song, with which I am very much connected. I studied Welsh and Music at the University of Bangor and received a masters degree in Welch Ethnological studies at Cardiff University. Before that I trained as a social worker and as the research and performance of Welsh music is not paid very well, I continued to work in this profession. I mainly worked in child protection and parenting support, trying to teach parents more cooperative and understanding approaches to child care, listening to their children's needs, rather than make them always obey to their own standards. I am married and have two adult children; my daughter just gave birth to our first grandchild. We live in a small coastal town called Deganwy, near Llandudno, near the coast in North Wales. Llandudnois a tourist town and has just been voted the 'best staycation location in Britain'. We have a garden where we grow some vegetables. I try to be as active as I can, all my shopping is done by bicycle, I am a singer in a Welsh folk usic group; we perform regularly in informal locations. I am also a member of a classical music choir, performing oratorio and traditional choral music, sometimes with large orchestras. I have come to Palestine in order to experience myself the reality of life here and to compare this with the relentless biassed reporting that we are exposed to by the Western media. I have opted for the media internship that GoPalestine offers to obtain some alternative views on reporting on the raw reality that is the daily experience of Palestinians today. 2) How did I find Hebron? My first expression of Hebron was at the city tour where we were shown the old city by the manger of the centre, Mr Tamimi. We went to the magnificent old city with its ancient winding walkways and shops that offer traditional crafts, food, plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables and every day household items. Mr Tamimi introduced us to some of the shopkeepers who shared with us their experiences. I later conducted some interviews with them as part of my media studies and potential publication work. What strikes you immediately when visiting the old city is the jarring intrusion by concrete and barbed wire, steel barriers and checkpoints directly and without consideration for environment or aesthetics imposed on the beauty of the ancient architecture, a deliberate attempt to degrade and to insult the tradition, taking possession of an area that is claimed, taken and occupied. Hebron is surronded by large settlements since 1967; they are ever expanding and 'secured' with ever more barriers and checkpoints. Even some houses above the shops have been taken, barbed wired, barred and concreted. Settlers regularly throw rubbish and sometimes sewage and other grossities down on the Palestinians who try to protect themselves as well as they can by wire meshing and tarpaulins. We went to the beautiful and spacious Ibrahimi mosque which is said to be the resting place of some of the prophets and some of Abraham's wives. However, the actual tombs are only visible through thick steel windows, as the Jewish settlers have taken 2/3 of the mosque under their control. Palestinians are only allowed to visit this remaining third, the other part it permanently occupied for Jewish worship, protected by strong walls, as usual without any regard to the ancient holiness of the place, encircling it with concrete, barbed wire and checkpoints. As my passport allowed me to do, I visited the occupied 2/3 of Ibrahimi, which they call the 'cave of the patriarchs'. Huge halls are equipped with desk on which Jews do their Tora studies and congregate for chanting and dancing. The clear majority of these Jews are orthodox, judging from their attire. The place was full of them, even though it was an ordinary weekday. The occupation of the mosque seems to be firmly established, still, at least four checkpoints with armed soldiers are surrounding it, who claim that they have to protect the place from 'terrorist'. Questionin them about it only meets with derisive sneers, making clear that they firmly believe that it is their god-given right to displace and dishonour everybod else around them, especially those of Arab origin. . While on the other side of the barrier, I also visited the area of Tal Rumeida, a settlement around an archeological site that is claimed to be the resting place of the biblical Ruth, which is for them another excuse to occupy the entire area and claim that all Hebron and around it belongs to them. Hebron is also home to a two hundred years old Russian Orthodox church, Al Musquobia. I visited the beautiful church adorned with Christian icons. Its grounds house an ancient oak that is called 'Abraham' s Oak'. The withered remains of it are kept in a box to protect it from deterioration. It is said to be 3000 years old. It is clear that people in Hebron are proud of their tradition and of their Islamic identity. The overwhelmimg majority of women wear hijab and the calls to prayer are heard from several mosques at the same time, five times a day. There is no compulsion or rejection of this tradition, nobody is obliged to comply. The family is strong and influencial, and although that can be quite oppressive sometimes for the young adult daughters in the familes, they are committed and safe, not in a hurry to make major changes to their lives and to comply with their families' traditions how to be engaged to be married, following a quite strict procedure. All of Hebron people are open, willing to tolerate our few, sumbling attempts of offering our few phrases of Arabic and try their best to practice their often quite sophisticated knowledge of English. They are helpful and will make every effort to be of any assistance you might reasonably require. 3) The programme I was introduced to a number of television and radio stations in Hebron, many of which has experienced sharp censorship from the inception of the occupation in 1967. On several occasion Radio Hurriya was invaded by IOF soldiers, the staff threatened with machine guns and the equipment destroyed. There is no justice for Palestinians, once the occupation distroys or confiscate things they only need to claim 'Israel' s security' and all the damage is to be tolerated by the victims. Therefore, mindless vandalism goes on the rampage. We have seen pictures of the destruction after one of these 'visits', the costs must have been in the 10s of thousands of dollars. Especially poingnant was the case of one of the managers of Radio Arooba, who is completely blind and needs a special computer. No replacement was obtained for a long time, which rendered her without the means to function effectively. Only mild mentionings in the media about the true situation caused by the occupation will cause these random raids. This widely leads to severe cases of self-censorship. Even the mentioning of the words Palestine, occupation, settler violence and of course genocide might lead to invasion, violence and arrest. Two stations we visited, Hebron Satelilite TV and Hawana TV, clearly indicated the restrictions placed upon them and their compliance. Programmes are restricted to social, musical and entertainment events, sometimes local crime and gossip. This of course contributes to obstacles in the population to experience each others' predicaments and to create ways to object. All radio stations had workable equipment with recording studios for sound and live broadcasting. However, most of them purely rely on advertising and subscription for financial support. Therefore the budget is tight and assaults on them will pose serious setbacks. We were introduced to the local craftsmen, glassmakers and woodcarvers in the old city and two internatioally exporting local companies, a kaffiyeh factory and Camel, who makes shoes, sandals and other leather items, meeting the requirements and orders of overseas and European markets. Although their machinery is basic it is meeting their needs, producing effective output and employing a number of workers. Of similar size is the kaffieh factory. Contrary to our impression the kaffiyehs only come in black and white, we were introduced to the colours of different localities, all of which are woven on a number of beautiful, electrically powered looms, operated by skilled weavers who can vary the patterns and produce their wonderful embroidery. The economy has sorely suffered since the genocide began in October 2023, people have lost confidence, the salaries have been curtailed and many have lost their jobs. As there are hardly any welfare schemes, people have learned to make do with a dearth of resources for their familes. In the afternoons we were often asked to tutour young professionals who want to improve their English conversation skills. Their English was generally excellent already, but their ambiion is to make it even better and to become as fluent as possible. We had very interesting conversations about their lives, their work, practice of Islam, their attempts and traditions to find partners and the daily harrassment they suffer as a result of the occupation. When they talked I was able to point out some phrases that could be improved, to give them synonyms for simpler words they used or to point out some grammatical or spelling issues that could be addressed. We sometimes had discussions in small groups, which was very helpful for everyone, as it improved conversational interaction and response. Similar objectives were addressed with Hebron University's English department, whose first year students were encouraged to practice conversation in everyday situations. While we were there, we were introduced to some other departments, saw the science and medical faculties and were able to talk to the dean of the university, who was inviting some of us to give talks to an international student workshop about a topic of our choice. All the experiences and impressions were written down in regular journals, as encouraged by the centre. As my friends at home were curious about them, I posted them on a blog in which the centre was included and could regularly monitor the written work. I would have liked a little more feedback on them and perhaps some ideas where and how to effectively publish them in order to reach an audience interested in the issues raised. I also wrote an illustrated travel account of my two days visit to Jericho, Qumran, the Dead Sea and Bethlehem, which was most appreciated at home. 4) Arabic Before coming to Hebron I tried to master some Arabic sentences via YouTube. Of course, and more or less unbeknownst to me, Fuzha, although universally understood in the Arabic world, is only used in formal settings and not in everyday conversation in the various regions. To my great disappointment, I could not understand anything that was said, apart fron a few words, nor could I use my few stilted sentences effectively. When I tried to learn a bit more in a formal class that was offered in the centre, I found myself to be quite confused, as many words I know had a different alternative in the Levant. So, my preconcepts stood in the way. Possibly it would have been better just to go like an empty vessel to the task, do some cooking with a local woman and learn the words going along with this. But, for others, of course it is of great help to have the one to one formal tuition of local Arabic that is taught in the centre. 5) Safety Although instructed not to go out of the house alone after dark, I was in the position to do that several times and there was no threat or concern of any kind. People were always very helpful and - as we are quite recognisable as foreigners - there is curiosity and friendly attempts to interact with us, especially from children. As we can feel that there is only a sense of excitement or exotic encounter, but never malice, it is completely safe to walk the street or to interact with people who want to practice their English. It is clear that Muslim men will not make eye contact and are in the tradition of not interact with single women, as they will regard this as indecent. The only threat I only felt in Hebron was when I encounteed Israeli soldiers. Their arrogance, insulting and threatening behavious is in open contrast to the joyful gentleness of Palestinians. 6) Accommodation We were housed in the basement flat of a friend of GoPalestine, a medical doctor, whose family lives in the other part of that spacious house. The flat has three bedrooms, a sitting room, bathroom and kitchen, all in funtioning, clean condition, although Westeners with too high expectations might find it rather old-fashioned and basic. The few snags with the plumbing in the bathroom were promptly addressed and our comfort was ensured and was regularly enquired about. The kitchen contains a large fridge-freezer, a washing machine and a gas cooker, all in good condition. Although we were warned that electricity and water might sometimes be in short supply, there was always enough of it and we made an effort not to waste. 7) Why would it be valuable for everyone to visit GoPalestine as a volunteer or intern: Conclusion I sincerely thank Mr Tamimi and all the staff for the exquisite and unique experience they have given us, enabling us to have a focussed impression of the real situation in Palestine. I hope to share this when back in Britain and to be able to counter the still widespread prejudice that exists in the West, most insidiously that Palestinians have brought the reasons for their control and constant monitoring upon themselves. Nothing of this is true and the awareness in the West is growing that Palestine is the ancient and eternal home of a wonderful people who deserve self-determination, a democratic state with proper elections, to be free from harrassment and interference and to live in peace, like any other nation on earth. There is a variety of NGOs in Palestine who want to spread social awareness, information about the culture or, more politically motivated, to protect local people from the demolition of their houses and confiscation of their land. These organisations also try to witness the harrassment at the checkpoints that is so randomly influencing the daily lives without any apparent reason. Some organisations concentrage on accompanying children who live in other occupied areas to protect them from the daily assaults and insults inflicted on them by settlers, including their children who imitate their parents, on their daily way to school. So, for people who want to be of assistance to Palestinian people, there is a wide choice. I am glad that I chose GoPalestine out of the variety on offer. Not only is there the clear mission to make international visitors acquainted with local customs and every day life, but there is also an internal choice of specialities, tailored to the specific interest of the interns and voluteers. There is a Human Rights internship that will introduce you to the refugee camps and get you in touch with lawyers who can explain the situation. Another internship concentrates on healt; the doctors will take you to the local hospitals if you are a trained nurse or doctor and there are introductions to the local schools and administrative bodies as well. If you have different professional backgrounds the centre wll do their best to accommodate this with tailored experiences and meetings. If you just want to volunteer and help where needed, an excellent way is to help the very keen children or professionals to improve their English by conversations and language talks. This is such a hands-on experience that gives you a broad insight not only to culture and every day life, but also a direct encounter with people of different wakes of life, differnt characters, opinion and interests. It is an altogether unforgettable experience, safe, colouful and varied, definitely to be preferred over any packaged holiday abroad. I will try to do my best to spread the word further and we hope and pray for a Free Palestine soon.

It was important for me to visit Go Palestine to understand the plight of local people from daily life that I experienced along side of them. I came to hear about life and the truth and this is what occurred in my time. The aspect of my trip having to do with my program was successful because of the existing strong community connections of the coordinators. Thereof, I had the opportunity to assist in health related projects. This is important to me as a nurse and in my vision to contribute while I travel and have vital cultural exchange in the places I visit and the people I meet. Therefore I am thankful I connected with this program Go Palestine because had I not, I would not have been able to see, speak with and enjoy the people I met and the experiences I had with the help program and it's avid workers. Furthermore, I enjoyed the social and travel excursions offered which gave me variation from the other scheduled events in my day. Altogether this allows me to take away my time with Go Palestine to understand world events, active sociopolitical challenges, and give me the clarity I require to engage conversations about current events and oppressed populations. I gained an important Visit in an important Time: Cultural Exchange, honest discussion, mobility in the local community.

I was surprised by the level of depth that I was able to experience with learning about Palestinian culture, understanding the issues that locals face there, and visiting refugee camps in person to see for myself. Although I feel like my contribution with volunteering was just a small drop in a bucket, it was still great to get the sort of perspective that allowed me to share the word and let others know about the human rights issues here. I highly recommend every aspect of this program, from the camp visitation, classes, daily breakfast, host families, and even tours of the city.

The program was absolutely amazing. Even though I had only one week I was able to learn a lot about Palestine and the occupation. The staff was incredible and super attentive. I can say that this was a life changing experience and I would strongly recommend it. In the times we are living, it's a must have experience to understand the occupation and colonisation of Palestine.

Unfortunately, our stay was short, only one week. However, in this short period we were able to make many friends and experience some of the highs and the lows of the Palestinian life. The GoPalestine Center developed an amazing schedule for our week, two Refugee Camps and a visit to the Old City. We were provided with the best breakfast each morning and all the information we needed. I am sad to be leaving here tomorrow, like I am leaving behind good friends. I hope this review can influence someone to take the leap and come, it's very worth it!

I have really enjoyed my time with the team at the Go Palestine Center. Mohamed, Manar and team do a brilliant job and show you all aspects of life in Hebron. The program is so well organized and varied and I would really encourage you to join it. I will definitely come back. The best thing about it is being able to meet so many people. Everyone is so friendly in Hebron and wants to take time to talk to you. I met so many inspiring people. My Arabic teacher Dalia is excellent - so patient - and I learned a lot in a short time which I was able to practice.

I feel very fortunate to have heard about GoPalestine (via a friend of a friend) as the centre has given me an invaluable opportunity to visit Palestine. I was only able to take 2 weeks off work, but the centre has many flexible volunteering oppotunities to suit all lengths of stays. The team at the centre have been so welcoming and helpful, they all work very hard to give visitors the opportunity to learn about Palestine and to give the local people opportunities to improve their English speaking (as well as other learning experiences). It has been very enriching to speak with local people about their experiences, their struggles and their aspirations and I look forward to sharing their stories back home in Australia. The people of Hebron have shown us such warm hospitality, it has been such a privilege to visit and experience the friendliness and generosity of the Palestinian people. Our friends at the GoPalestine Center have been consistently helping us in every way they can. In fact, this seems to be part of the Palestinian culture in general. The people on the street always want to talk to us, and offer us help whenever we seem confused (which is always). The morning breakfast at the Center is very delicious and our guide when we go out (Mr. Tamimi) makes us feel safe even in the most chaotic of times. There's not much to say really, expect everyone should come. It is safe, friendly, and fulfilling.

The vidit was very usefull. I had the opportunity to enter in contact with many Universities in Hebron, and I'll build future collaborations on these contacts. This was possible thanks to the support from the Center and their contats.

It has been a great experience to visit Hebron. People are warm and kind. I have discovered many things about Palestine and its law system, visiting the Court of Bethlehem and Hebron. Everyone is available for helping you. The room of the apartment where I have stayed was almost independent and big, and not so far away from the centre, so you can come by foot. Ask to the family or at the centre to clean if it's not enough cleaned, they are gonna do it. In august maybe it's too hot, so I recommend to come during spring or autumn.

My time in Hebron was a life-altering experience. In the course of my volunteer activities, the opportunities to meet and interact with Palestinian people brought me so much joy and gratification. My primary volunteer activity was speaking English with conversation partners in sessions lasting one and a half hours. However, they often continued much longer. The conversation partners were all able to speak confidently in English, allowing us to have relaxed and frank conversations across a range of subjects. I especially enjoyed meeting with the conversation partners more than once a week, even several times a week when they were available. I left Hebron with a feeling of sadness at leaving my new friends behind, but with resolute determination that I will see every one of them again. Exploring Hebron, a Palestinian city with a rich history, was how I spent most of my free time. The Old City is no longer what it once was due to regrettable circumstances, including divisions that make it incomplete. Still, it is an enchanting, magical place where one can walk while imagining what a magnificent place it was when it was filled with residents and shops, creating a vibrant and thriving city. Finally, walking the streets of Hebron let me experience the warmth, kindness, and generosity of the Palestinian people. I looked forward to my evening strolls, and they never disappointed. I met more people than I can count, and I am so grateful to have met each and every one.

I had an incredible time, I have tried to come for a while but had scheduling problems that they were always understanding of. I came for two weeks and saw many things. The locals were incredibly hospitable and I was often invited to stay at the homes of others.

My time with Go Palestine was short but amazing. I gained a valuable insight into the daily life of Palestinians and met so many amazing people. Visiting the refugee camps was an experience I won't forget. At Go Palestine you feel supported and encouraged to make the most out of your experience there.

This program gave me the opportunity to shadow an attorney and visit different courts in the West Bank. I also got to meet with relevant organizations like prisoners' rights groups, family planning centers, and environmental monitoring bodies. Alongside these activities, I studied Arabic and then got to practice it through immersion while living in Hebron.

I came here because I felt a strong calling to connect with Palestinian culture and people and I found myself integrating here very quickly. People here really value generosity and have invited me to celebrations, weddings, meals and into their houses for tea on a daily basis. I feel completely safe here and would recommend anybody who is interested in the true culture of the Holy Land to take a trip here and experience the hospitality and warmth of the people.

Over the past two weeks in Hebron, I’ve been part of a law and human rights program that gave me the chance to visit refugee camps, meet incredible people, and learn from human rights organizations. It’s been a truly memorable experience. The center has such a warm and welcoming atmosphere, it feels like being part of a family. I also had time to explore nearby cities like Jerusalem, Ramallah, and Jericho, which are just a short trip from Hebron. Throughout my stay, I’ve felt completely safe, and the kindness and hospitality of the locals have made this experience even more special.

Last summer, I spent three weeks in Palestine. I dedicated my days to teaching English twice daily and attended Arabic classes twice a week. Fridays and Saturdays marked the weekend, and there was always something exciting to do, whether it was exploring a new Palestinian city or enjoying a social gathering in Hebron, where someone would eagerly offer to show me around. The Palestinians I met were incredibly warm and hospitable, always happy to invite me for dinner, take me bowling, guide me through the old city, or share other engaging activities. Initially, I was concerned that Palestine might feel too traditional for me, but this worry quickly faded. Everyone I encountered was respectful and understanding of cultural differences, including those related to religion.

I had the opportunity to teach English to a group of young adults, aged 17-21, and the bond we developed was truly special. I taught conversational English to children from Hebron, and the classes were truly enjoyable. I learned so much from the students in each session, and it was always bittersweet when the lessons came to a close. I really enjoyed working at a center with children because they were always excited to meet foreigners, speak English, and ask questions about our cultures and traditions. The children were very engaged in learning. During my volunteering, we visited the Old City of Hebron, historical sites, factories, and refugee camps. We saw how Palestinians live under Israeli occupation and spoke with people affected by it. In the factories, we observed the processes of making glass, pottery, and textiles. During my time as an intern, I had the chance to meet Palestinian attorneys who explained the legal system in Palestine, including the difficulties they face under Israeli occupation. I also had the chance to tour Hebron University and its Law College, where professors detailed the distinctive evolution of Palestinian law, from the Ottoman era to the regulations under the Palestinian Authority. The culture in Palestine is incredibly welcoming from the start. The locals are warm hearted and eager to assist. Personally, I believe Palestine is safer than many countries in Latin America. During my time in Hebron, I didn’t encounter any violence and felt more secure there than in Israel. I strongly encourage others to visit Palestine and participate in programs at the Palestinian center to truly grasp the experiences of the Palestinian people and connect with their remarkable culture.

The Law program I joined included activities like visiting the Old City, Al-Fawwah camp, human rights organizations, and the court. I also met Palestinian lawyers and human rights activists, which gave me new insights. I helped set up a workshop and led a discussion with law students from Hebron University. I felt safe in Hebron. The locals are very friendly and always willing to help, so don't be afraid to ask if you need anything.

There, I met his wife and son, and they treated me like family, letting me rest until my hostel opened. The kindness didn’t stop there. The family shared delicious Palestinian meals and showed me around, making my stay unforgettable. When it was time to leave for the Go Palestine center, they helped me find a ride, and we’ve stayed in touch ever since. My time in Hebron was very special. Even though I knew about the struggles here, seeing them in real life was different. The people in Hebron are kind and welcoming, I heard “Welcome to Hebron!” so many times and even got free coffee and snacks from locals. Teaching English was new for me, and I felt nervous at first. But the students were so excited to learn that I quickly felt comfortable. Their love for education surprised me, and one student told me, “Education is the strongest weapon to fight the occupation.” I’ll never forget that. The Go Palestine team was very helpful. They supported me with lesson plans and made sure I was always prepared. They also organized fun activities, like visiting glass factories, meeting local families, and exploring the Old City and Ibrahimi Mosque. My three weeks went by so fast, and I’ll miss teaching in Dura, Al-Arroub Camp, and at the center. I wish my students all the best.

After spending the previous year in Lebanon studying Arabic, I was eager to continue improving my Levantine dialect. Naturally, Palestine felt like the perfect next step. Don’t let the occupation discourage you, Hebron is one of the most captivating cities in the West Bank. I enjoyed exploring both sides of the city, one under Israeli control and the other governed by the Palestinian Authority. The diversity of activists and humanitarian organizations working on the ground was fascinating to witness. The center became my anchor during my stay, offering a sense of routine and comfort. Sharing breakfast with the same group of people each morning helped me feel more settled in a new place where I didn’t know anyone. I joined several tours and meetings organized by the center, including visits to Shuhada Street, which remains famously shut down, the last Keffiyeh factory in the West Bank, various glass and pottery factories, and insightful discussions with professors, lawyers, and journalists. Guided tours of Hebron’s Old City are a must, and the center is always happy to arrange one for you. My experience was quite unique since I documented the center’s activities through photography and video. I also taught English and contributed to their website. The center is flexible and open to adapting your role, so even if you sign up for one program, you can explore other opportunities by simply talking to the staff. Palestinians are known for their incredible hospitality, so don’t be surprised if you’re invited in for coffee or even a full meal. Accepting these invitations can offer a break from shawarma and falafel, although both are absolutely worth trying! Throughout my time in Hebron, I always felt safe. Locals were friendly and excited to meet foreigners, and I found they respected personal boundaries. However, I acknowledge that as a man, my experience may differ from that of women, who face different forms of harassment. It’s wise to take basic safety precautions, such as traveling with a companion at night, but overall, Hebron isn’t a dangerous city. In fact, I highly recommend visiting. There’s always something to do, but I think it’s important to stay proactive meet people and stay engaged. The center here offers great support and helps provide a sense of structure to your experience.

I started at a slightly lower level than needed, but it turned out to be a great review of what I had learned before. Ms. Duaa’s approach, which combines videos, readings, and audio materials, has been great in solidifying my knowledge. With so much vocabularies to learn, I’ve had to spend extra time ensuring I’ve memorized them all. However, I’ve become more confident in speaking Arabic, thanks to the teacher's method, which motivates me to keep going even when I feel stuck. My name is Julien. I am 27 years old and in my last semester of a master's program in Middle Eastern studies. I volunteered in May this year for three weeks and it has been amazing how well people have taken care of us volunteers. They often invite us for tea or coffee and let us experience their culture and hospitality. Hebron is a beautiful city with kind and friendly people. During my first days here, I made several friends who gave me a tour of the city. In the three weeks I volunteered, I taught children at a center and also went with other volunteers to teach refugee kids at Al-Fawaar Refugee Camp. I was really impressed by how much Palestinians appreciate foreigners. We received many greetings and acts of kindness every day. Besides teaching, I had Arabic lessons each week and got to tour the Old City, Ibrahimi Mosque, and Al-Shouhada Street. I would definitely recommend this program to anyone who wants to help Palestinian children by teaching them English and making a difference in their future.

Visiting Palestine was a dream for me, but I had a lot of ideas based on what I saw on TV and YouTube conflict, tension, and danger everywhere. We formed a connection that I can’t easily describe. The students were eager to learn and engaged in every discussion. The staff at the Palestinian center, especially Ms. Manar, were so supportive and made my experience even better. The center felt like a cozy home where I met people from around the world and locals who were curious about other cultures. Learning Arabic was also a highlight, and I’m excited to keep improving! I was eager to visit Palestine and found Go Palestine while looking for programs. The program included visiting the Old City, Al-Fawwar camp, various human rights organizations, the court, and allowed us to meet with lawyers and activists. We even organized a workshop and discussion with law students from Hebron University at the legal clinic. What amazed me was how, despite living under occupation and not having a legislative council, local legal professionals showed incredible creativity and resilience. I met many people with innovative ideas for improving their society. Hebron is a great city, and I’d recommend visiting Palestine and especially Hebron to experience and understand the local culture and community.

I arrived in Palestine two months ago to join the Lawyers in Palestine program, and it has been a wonderful experience. As a law student, meeting local lawyers, activists, and officials in Hebron has helped me better understand the legal challenges related to the occupation and the violations by the IDF and Israeli settlers. It was a very nice experience and super helpful to learn about the situation in the West Bank. Nevertheless, I think some things could have been organised better. I paid around 400$ for a two week period, I expected the place where I would be staying at to be ready but it wasn’t. The host didn’t know I was coming and I had to wait around an hour for them to clean the room and prepare it. I also didn’t get the chance to visit the old city, shuhada street and the ibrahimi mosque with the centre even though it says on the website we would go. This really disappointed me as I ended up going by myself and some friends but it should have been part of the program especially if we are paying so much money. I

For five weeks, I worked closely with Palestinian refugees, both children and adults, assisting them with English conversation skills. At first, I was worried about traveling to Palestine and Hebron because of the on going war. But when I got there, I found my fears were unnecessary. The people of Hebron were very welcoming and kind, and the center made sure we were safe. My time at the Palestine Center was one of the best experiences I've had in all my travels. While I was there, I taught English to children in a Al Fawar refugee camp, which I think could really help their futures. The center also arranged trips for us to visit different cities in Palestine, giving us a full cultural experience. I'll be coming back next year because there's so much more to experience.

One of the best parts has been teaching English to the children at Al-Fawar Camp in Hebron. They are so eager to learn despite the hard life they live in, and it warms my heart to see how happy they are in class. At first, I was a bit shy, but the staff especially Manar who helped me feel more comfortable and get involved. Besides teaching, I've also had the pleasure of eating meals with some of the kindest people I've ever met. The respect and warmth I've received from the people of Hebron have made a big impression on me. Hebron is a city with a lot of history and beauty. When I walk through the old town, visit the Ibrahimi Mosque, or stroll down Shuhada Street, I feel safe and welcomed everywhere I go. The city's strength in this hard time and the spirit of its people are really inspiring. I'm not sure if I'm exaggerating, but this experience has been more than just volunteering to me; it's been a journey of personal growth and cultural exchange. I've made friendships and memories that I will always hold dear. I don't know where to start. My experience at the Human Rights Internship has been amazing. Every day begins with a delicious Palestinian breakfast, followed by meetings with local human rights NGOs to learn about the situation in Palestine, especially during the Gaza war. Teaching English to children aged 7-12 was wonderful, and it was inspiring to see how a little help can make a big difference for them. I also took Arabic classes with Mohammad, who is a very informative teacher. Living with a host family enhanced my learning experience even more. Despite what I had heard, Hebron feels safe and welcoming. Palestinians are very friendly people and very generous . Firstly, the people who work with Gopalestine are great people and very friendly like all Palestinians. Signed up for himan rights internship, dropped it after two weeks because it was non existant tbh. Just volunteered generally afterwards. I don't know why they charge extra for internships because they don't pay money to anyone who gives time to internships. Even we visited refugee camp and got shown around by camp member and he didn't receive anything. House provided for males was very dirty and for some reason owner living there. We had to deep clean the place ourselves eventually. Do not under any circumstances pay for the program up front before you come if you are doing anything longer than a couple of weeks because your 'stuck' then. Given the security at airport and risks not getting in they should not be asking for money up front.

And I had the most incredible experience of my life with “Go Palestine.” I only wish I could have stayed longer than a week…which I will definitely do the next time. I felt safer in Hebron than in my hometown of Chicago. (But be careful crossing the street here!) Every day was packed with activities from visiting cultural and humanitarian organizations, to learning Arabic, to teaching English, to group cooking a local dish. My favorite part was visiting the nearby refugee camp. But that was because of the people. And I have never met a more welcoming people than the Palestinians. From my arrival day, when I got lost (but it’s in my nature to get lost.) A group of teen boys came up to me and helped me lug my two suitcases to the Center. And when I tried to give them a little money for helping me, they were aghast and refused! (What teenage boy wouldn’t like a little money for a soda or ice cream?) Super respectful men, women and children were always asking if I needed help, or wanting to practice their English with me. And the wonderful local family that I stayed with, were always watching out for me. Everyone who was working or volunteering at the center were amazing. Even though I was the oldest one there, they made me feel very welcome, and a part of the group. I highly recommend it to anyone of any age, gender, religion or nationality. It’s affordable and I learned more in my one week of immersion education, than I would have learned in a year of online research. It’s still difficult to truly know what’s it like to live as an everyday Palestinian, but I imagine that it would not have been much different from life in the Warsaw Ghetto in 1942. Except that now the oppressed, is the oppressor. And the worst part…is that in 1942 the world had “an excuse” for not knowing.…but in 2024…there’s no excuse.

But one thing about being here is that I was able to have amazing conversations with some of the younger people here who are going to school. It was really eye opening getting to know their day to day life and it was eye opening for these students to even know about my life and where I grew up, and for them to understand not only the American culture I came from, but also the Bangladeshi culture I came from. It was really amazing getting to know one-on-one with these students. I feel like I truly personally connected with them and I really hope to continue to keep in touch even when I have to leave here. Overall in general, despite the situation going on, the occupation, going through checkpoints and seeing soldiers with machine guns and tactical gear walking around, I really loved being here. I LOVE the sense of community here and I really rarely see that even in the US. I love how everyone helps everyone out no matter what. In terms of safety, as a foreigner, especially as a woman, I did feel very safe. I've walked around at night time by myself and it hasn't been a problem. I don't recommend it in general tbh lol, but just to show that indeed I did feel safe even when I was walking around myself. Truly great experience!

Hello, I'm Jim, a 34-year-old from the USA, specifically California. Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to volunteer for two weeks in Palestine as part of a program that focuses on assisting Palestinian refugees. My time there was truly remarkable. I had the privilege of interacting with Palestinians, particularly those residing in Hebron and Bethlehem. During my volunteer stint, I dedicated myself to teaching English, with a focus on conversational skills. The experience was beyond words, as I found myself surrounded by enthusiastic and interactive students. Our visits to refugee camps allowed me to witness firsthand the challenging living conditions they endure. Engaging with the families, I had the chance to hear their personal stories and understand the historical context behind their presence in the camps. As part of this program, I took the opportunity to learn Arabic from one of the finest teachers at the center. Starting from scratch, the teacher's clear and effective methods made the learning process enjoyable. Speaking with locals further enhanced my Arabic skills, contributing to a well-rounded experience. Reflecting on my time in Palestine, I cannot recommend this program enough to anyone interested in gaining a deeper understanding of the Palestinian culture and daily life. Particularly in light of recent events in Gaza, it is crucial to see the situation through their eyes. Living among Palestinians provides a unique perspective that goes beyond just witnessing, allowing for a genuine connection and appreciation of their experiences. I wholeheartedly encourage others to embark on this journey and immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Palestinian life.

Coming here was somewhat scary yet exciting. My fear came from all I saw and read in the media which was a mistake. From my journey here to now, the entire process has been relaxing and made me feel at ease. I felt safer here than I did in my home city. I learnt a lot about the Palestinian culture and even learnt to make Maqlouba, Rawaq Alainab (stuffed grape leaves) and Koshray (Egyptian dish). I will not be able to get hummus from Tesco in London after tasting the hummus here. The hummus in Palestine is very smooth and creamy. I am surprised that I went my entire stay here with healthy food consisting, black olives, eggs, cucumbers, tomatoes, labneh, hummus and bread. Palestinians are kind and welcoming in nature and they have a heart of gold. I have not experience this level of hospitality anywhere else. Growing up as a Muslim, it is eye opening to witness locations on the holy land such as Masjid Al Aqsa and Ibrahimi Mosque. I am the only one in my entire family generation to visit Al Aqsa mosque and I feel privilege to be able to do so. It is the third holiest site in Islam. The experience has reaffirmed me in my beliefs. This experience has changed me as a person. I am never going to be the same person again. I have become more empathetic and open minded and understanding towards Palestine, the cultural differences and its' people.

At first, I didn't intentionally choose to come to Palestine. I thought it was a dangerous place, but it's actually quite different from what I imagined. Not only is it very safe here, but the people are also very friendly. I even celebrated an unforgettable birthday here. The two weeks I've spent here have been very fulfilling. Through conversations with locals, I've gained a deeper understanding of the real situation in this country and the lives of the local people. I believe this experience will be of great help to me in both my personal life and work.

During my time at the centre I completed a six week programme which focused on law and human rights. During my time here we have visited several different refugee camps and we have met with loads of amazing people from many different human rights organisations and many locals who have shared their experiences growing up in Palestine. It has been such an eye opening experience which I will never forget. The atmosphere at the centre is also amazing, it really does feel like a family. I'm so grateful to everyone that I have met during my stay here. On my days off I was able to explore other cities like Jerusalem, ramallah and Jerico. Which you can get to really easily from hebron. I also have felt extremely safe during my whole time here and everyone you meet on the streets and in shops are so polite and welcoming. I would absolutely recommend this center and the law and human rights internship.

During my month-long internship in Hebron, Palestine, about Law and Human Rights, I had an enriching experience that left a lasting impact. The opportunity to visit various human rights organizations, interact with activists, lawyers, and journalists provided me with a well-rounded perspective on the complexities of the region. One of the standout aspects of the internship was the chance to study Arabic and immerse myself in the local culture. This allowed me to form meaningful connections with the locals. Learning about the conflict firsthand and hearing diverse viewpoints from individuals directly affected by it was eye-opening and invaluable to my understanding. I must highlight the feeling of safety throughout my stay in Hebron, which was reassuring and allowed me to fully engage with the experience. Overall, I am immensely pleased with the knowledge I gained, the connections I established, and the insights I obtained into the field of law and human rights within this unique context.

I had a wonderful time with Go Palestine. They were supportive and friendly with everything. You don't need to worry about breakfast as it is provided for you every working day! The classes that you teach will be a walk in the park. All you need to do is have a conversation with the students. Bare in mind that the students know basic English, so it is easy to speak to them. The students are lovely and polite. They are shy at first but get comfortable as the sessions go by. You may run out of things to talk about so I suggest you bring some topics or questions which will last the session. Arabic classes are very fun, creative and easy going. The teachers are very polite and friendly and they don’t rush you to get the work done. They make sure that you understand everything before moving on. I would definitely love to come again and I will! The experience is mind-blowing.

My internship with GoPalestine was a great experience that allowed me to get a first-hand experience in the Human Rights field. Everybody working at GoPalestine was extremely helpful at all times and all the visits I was able to do during my internship were very interesting. I learned a lot about different aspects of the Human Rights situation in Palestine and I felt safe during all my trips and visits organised with GoPalestine. If you want to learn about the life in Palestine from many different perspectives you should definitely consider this internship opportunity.

I have been in Hebron for 2 weeks, teaching English at the Palestinian Centre. The organisation before I came was efficient as Mutaz generally answered my questions quickly. The working days start with an excellent breakfast which includes hummus, falafel and eggs with bread and tea or coffee. This is a good opportunity to build relationships and share experiences with the other volunteers who come from across Europe and America. The volunteers are in their 20s and I am older, but they have made me feel welcome. After breakfast, I have had a mixture of teaching English and learning Arabic. The English sessions are conversations with a variety of people who want to improve their skills for academic and employment purposes. The 'students' are always polite and enthusiastic as they value education as a means of self development. Despite their vulnerability as Palestinians living in the West Bank, I have been impressed by their resilience and determination to rise above their circumstances. I am aware of my privilege in being able to travel freely around the world, but the Palestinians hold no resentment of me, but tolerate the limitations with remarkable equanimity. I have been taken on an outing to a local refugee camp, where the children followed us with smiling curiosity about our football preferences (Messi or Ronaldo?!) and then on to meet a woman who is running a very successful beauty business. Another day I went to Susya, a small village where the people live simply, having had their original homes demolished. The children, aged 5 to 14 loved the opportunity to join in my games and lessons. I had 2 days free to travel, exploring old Hebron with its historic sites. Bethlehem and Jerusalem are also easily and cheaply visited via shared taxis. Everywhere, people have been welcoming and happy to talk. My accommodation is in an apartment shared with 2 other volunteers. There is access to a washing machine. Apart from breakfast, we self cater. I have frequently walked alone through Hebron, including in the evenings and have always felt safe. When I thanked 1 new friend for his travel advice, he shrugged and said, "you are family". I shall miss my 'family' when I return to England and will continue to pray for peace in this very troubled land.

The sense of duty that I feel to help the less fortunate is always boiling inside my heart. This opportunity to teach English, visit and spend time with my brothers and sisters who live in refugee camps in the West Bank, was one I could not pass up. Growing up in a third world country myself, I often wished I had more opportunities. I craved the potential that seemed to be everywhere but where I resided. Leaving my family, to visit a potentially dangerous place was anything but easy. I love my family, and I receive an endless supply of support from them. Going without this was my first struggle. Upon arrival, and meeting the people in this wonderful land, I found myself having the same feeling that I would around my family. Love, support, and an undying belief in me and what I can bring to the table. Never have I been hugged so genuinely, felt so invited and wanted, or made to feel so special for just being myself. The view from social media, from the news and from the first world countries, would lead you to believe that there isn’t anything here. A place to be forgotten… but they could not be more wrong! I’ve visited places on all continents, and Palestine is like no other. The weather is hot, the political atmosphere is tense, but the people here will make you feel like none of this matters. The smiles that I see, come from the deepest parts of the heart. It is contagious and you can’t help but feel serene. I recommend anyone who has the time, to come and experience this for themselves. If you bask in the experience that is offered, you will surely leave with growth. As they say in Palestine, Ma’a Salaama ?

I did the „volunteer in the west bank“ program and had a great time overall. I got to have conversational english classes with palestinians, that tought me a lot about life and culture here. We also made trips to different refugee camps, universitys and other institutions. These trips were very meaningful. I enjoyed the life in Hebron, there are a lot of nice Cafes and Restaurants where you can go with friends. I was living in an apartment with 4 other internationals, close to a guest family. We saw them every few days but lived independently. During my stay here I felt safe most of time, still you will get a lot of attention as a foreigner and you maybe have to get used to it. I was able to learn a bit of arabic during my 3 weeks here, which was really nice. I would recommend this program to everybody that wants to spend a few weeks in palestine, learn about life here and get to know a lot of people. it is a great opportunity for sure :)

My time in Hebron was a really special experience that I am so thankful for. I took a super intensive Arabic course at Go Study Arabic in Palestine - Go Palestine, and it was a decision that I will always treasure. During the month I was there, I had the chance to explore Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Jaffa, Ramallah, and, of course, Hebron itself. I had a great teacher named Duaa who helped me a lot. She gave me lessons tailored to my needs to help me get better at speaking, listening, and writing in Arabic. With her help, I made a lot of progress in a short time and now I feel more confident in my language skills. Duaa was an amazing teacher, and I'm really grateful for her support and expertise. While I was in Palestine, I was warmly welcomed to different social events like weddings, parties, and small gatherings for tea or coffee. These experiences allowed me to make deep connections with local Palestinians and other international participants at the center. I know the friendships I made will last a lifetime. Aside from the social aspects, I also visited various organizations, museums, and refugee camps, which gave me a better understanding of the occupation and what life is like for Palestinians. These experiences not only opened my eyes to new perspectives but also helped me improve my Arabic skills. It's hard to put into words how much this journey in Palestine meant to me. I am incredibly grateful for the chance to be fully immersed in Palestinian culture, make meaningful connections, and learn so much about the region. Choosing to have this experience was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Incredible experience. I spent 3 weeks with GoPalestine on their "Media and Journalism" internship and I honestly think that this is one of the most unique and special experiences you could choose to do. Being with the people at GoPalestine gives you inside access to chat to just about anyone in Hebron, so my time was filled with interesting stories and conversation. I certainly feel like I understand the political dynamics of the region so much more, having experienced it first hand. Teaching English is fun and rewarding. The other volunteers became good friends, and the Palestinians are the most kind, hospitable and trustworthy people you could wish to meet. I was able to explore other cities in my time off including Bethlehem and Jerusalem, and got an authentic experience of Arabic culture, customs and food. I really couldn't have asked for a better introduction to the Middle East. I would love to come back someday, inshallah.

If you want to learn more about human rights, the Palestinian center is a great start. They have a lot of contacts from different kinds of people and they give you the possibility to meet very interesting Palestinians. You learn a lot of things about everyday life, struggles and problems. The people I have met came from different kinds of sectors and so you hear different perspectives which made it interesting. I followed the human rights program for 2/3 weeks and that was enough to find out and experience the human rights situation in Palestine. Palestine is definitely worth a visit regardless of anything. It is a great country with such nice people and a lot of history.

Hi! I'm Julian, a 21-year-old student from Australia. My experience in Palestine was truly eye-opening. I was eager to learn more about the complex conflict in the region and gain a deeper understanding of the refugee crisis. I spent three weeks in the program, during which I had the opportunity to learn the Palestinian dialect, stay with a host family, and visit three refugee camps. Learning the Palestinian dialect was one of the highlights of the program for me. It was challenging at times, but my Arabic instructor Mr. Muhammad was patient and helpful, and I was able to make significant progress. Speaking the language allowed me to better connect with the local community in Hebron and gain a deeper understanding of their perspectives. Staying with a host family was also a great experience. They were incredibly welcoming and kind, and I learned so much from them about the local culture and way of life. It was fascinating to see how people live in the region and to experience their customs and traditions firsthand. But perhaps the most impactful part of the internship was visiting the refugee camps. It was heart-wrenching to see the living conditions and the struggles that the refugees face on a daily basis. However, it was also inspiring to see their resilience and determination to create a better life for themselves and their families. This internship with no doubt was an incredible experience that gave me a deeper understanding of the conflict and the human impact it has had. It also allowed me to connect with the local community, learn a new language, and gain a new perspective on global issues. Being immersed in the Palestinian culture and seeing the country is just an additional perk to the overall program. I had the opportunity to help the Palestinian refugees to learn English, and it was a great experience. The Go Palestine's staff is amazing, they will be there anytime you ask for a help, they will make your experience more enjoyable. They were awesome. I also experienced visiting refugee camps in Hebron and Bethlehem every Monday, and it was an eye-opening to me. During the two weeks, I was able to help to teach conversational English to school students aged 12–17 years old, I had amazing and funny moments with them during the classes. Finally, I want to say that, the Go Palestine volunteer program is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to volunteer and make a meaningful impact on the community in Palestine. Life as an invited volunteer with the Center in Hebron is a rich, rare, and immersive journey on all fronts. English tutoring, Arabic classes, educational visits to local businesses and schools, children's activities, visitations and support for refugee camps, everything and more is on the itinerary. The real connections it is possible to make in Palestine each amount to tiny revolutions and seeds for the future. Through it all you will gain a new family in the wonderful staff - Mr. Tamimi, Ms. Amro, Ms. Qasim and the rest, not to mention the friends you'll never even anticipate meeting, both within the city community and among the other volunteers, and all the beautiful things exploring this land has to offer. My name is Ruquyya. I was born and raised in Britain and am married with 4 daughters. A colleague from my workplace came to Palestine and advised me to visit. After extensive searches online and Skype calls and email exchanges, I felt that Palestine Go was the best fit for me and gave me the confidence to visit alone as a single Muslim female traveling alone with my daughter. We booked our tickets and arranged our stay for 1 week as we were still slightly apprehensive about coming to a foreign place alone. Upon arrival we were greeted by the owners and instantly all of our apprehension disappeared. Everyone was so welcoming that we felt like we had stepped into a home away from home. A host family had been arranged for us and the hospitality of the host family and the people from the center has been second to none. Instantly my daughter and I agreed that we should have come for longer . A typical day for us here would start with a freshly made breakfast to sit and share with the other volunteers accompanied by enriching conversations. We would converse in English and Arabic and we felt like we were learning something new constantly. After breakfast we would have activities to do that were planned and given to us in advance. This structured timetable made us feel at ease and never uncomfortable. Although we were only here for a week, our timetable included an whole days excursion to an ancient city full of history alongside a guided tour of the holy resting place of the Patriarchs. We also taught conversational English to students and were given individual Arabic classes matched to our abilities. The conversational English classes were an eye opener and we learnt so much from the students during the sessions, that I would always be sad when they finished. The classes, my lessons, the center , the excursions and living with a Host family gave me a unique insight into the Palestinian culture that I would not have received had I come alone as a tourist and stayed in a hotel. The hospitality of Palestinian people is second to none and I cannot count how many cups of coffee, offers of meals and invitations to visit people's houses I have received. I have eaten at least 3 times at random strangers houses in the week I was here and had to turn down so many invitations, with promises of the next time I visit. Just to give an example of the hospitality, I caught a taxi to go to Bethlehem from Hebron and the driver upon learning we were visitors, took us home to meet his wife and brought her along with us for the journey to make us more comfortable. He also made us promise that next time we came Hebron ,we would stay at his house. Another person we met at the old city took us home after hearing we were foreigners to meet his wife, she then prepared an evening meal for us to eat together. At no time during my stay in Hebron or whilst traveling alone, using the local sharing taxis did I feel unsafe. The people welcome you in with their whole hearts and the center guides you all the time with regards to safety, even on our Free days and evenings. The only regret I have is that my stay is too short and I will definitely return in the future and encourage others to visit. It’s a true life changing experience.

I’m Maariyah – a 25 year old Doctor from the UK. I visited Hebron and participated in the Go Palestine ‘Teach English’ Programme for a mere one week. This included teaching English to students, mothers and local workers in Hebron. The lessons were great as they are one on one and so I could tailor it to the level of the individual student with some beginners and some advanced speakers. It also allowed me to get to know my students on a personal level and many of them have invited me to return and stay/eat at their house! Aside from teaching, I have had the opportunity to learn the Palestinian dialect of Arabic. In my one week here I have had two lessons and am pleased to say I can hold a very basic conversation now! The center had also organised tours of the old city, allowing us to visit the Ibrahim Mosque and a tour of the local village of Al-Dahiriya. These trips have given me a deeper understanding of the current political climate as well as Palestinian hospitality and culture. I have learnt that Palestinian hospitality is like no other. The team at the center are incredibly welcoming, treating us as their own family! Having breakfast together every morning was one of the highlights of my trip. Palestine felt incredibly safe to me, and Palestinians will go out of their way to help you to feel comfortable, safe and at home. I recommend this programme to all that wish to visit Hebron.

I volunteered to teach English at the Go Palestine centre for a month from December 2022 to January 2023, and my experience was overwhelmingly positive. My time at the centre was spent teaching English twice a day, with each class about 90 minutes long, and taking Arabic classes twice a week. Fridays and Saturdays are the weekend, and there is always something to do, whether it's visiting a different Palestinian city, or a social engagement with someone in Hebron, who will be very happy to show you around. On Mondays, the centre will travel to a location of historical or political importance in or near Hebron. These were often refugee camps or Hebron's famous old city. These visits will show you the uniqueness of Palestine's situation, and allow Palestinians to tell their stories. The Palestinians I met were all extremely friendly, and very happy to invite me over for dinner, go bowling, show me the old city, or any number of activities. I was worried that Palestine would be too traditional for me, but this was not the case. Everyone I met was accommodating towards our cultural differences, including on matters of religion. importantly, my experience of Hebron was also completely safe. I never once felt in any danger, contrary to what I had heard prior to my visit. I would absolutely recommend people interested in the program to take part, and see Palestine for yourself!

I am currently studying Conflict Transformation for my Master's program. and originally planned to return to Israel-Palestine through GoPalestine in Summer of 2020. However, I reconnected with GoPalestine this fall and just completed my two weeks with the program, focusing on Palestinian media. I arrived at the center and was placed with a host family. While I’ve only been in Hebron for two weeks, GoPalestine immersed me in the city and unique one-on-one conversations with professionals in the media field. Even my professional meetings have included a deep sense of hospitality. I have felt incredibly welcomed to the city in every interaction with the center, my host family, and the people of the city. Throughout my internship, I met with media professionals in the local radio stations and worked with students at the center. Before arriving to Palestine, I researched some broader topics about Palestinian media and media functioning within the context of conflict. Most of my questions to the media professionals included questions about occupation, conflict, and pressures from the government. I was able to form a better understanding for the specific impact on media in Palestine and walk away with better questions. The Palestinian culture in Hebron is incredibly generous, welcoming, and grounded in relationships. I never felt unsafe and especially directed all cultural questions to my instructors at GoPalestine. If anyone is interested in learning more about the Palestinian story, situation, and history, GoPalestine will meet you where you are and your interests. I am leaving with a better understanding of the situation and language, as well as many new friends and family in Hebron. Two weeks is too short a stay to Hebron. In two weeks you can feel at home. You can grow your family and relationship with the world. I will say a temporary goodbye to Hebron tomorrow, but will carry conversations, connections, and concepts with me as I continue to research, learn, and travel. I can't wait to return again.

I highly recommend the Go Palestine Arabic Language Online Program. My teacher Dua'a is a wonderful teacher, she speaks English very well and she also brings great enthusiasm to her work. She has a good understanding of where the gaps are in my knowledge of the Arabic language. This enables her to select and prepare the material for each lesson carefully. The first lesson is free, but I immediately signed up for the next one. I really appreciate the format through Zoom, very flexible and compatible with my own work.

I really don't know from where to begin. I spent the most wonderful month in Palestine and it was the best experience of all. My name is Ashley from Britain, I am 27 years old. I came to Palestine to participate in the teaching in Palestine Program, where I was able to teach many Palestinians of all ages, as I taught school students and university students. My students were very friendly and very eager to learn. One of the best thing I had there was staying with a lovely Palestinian family, I felt home with them and learned a lot about the culture and their daily life as Palestinians. It was defenitly an eye opening for me as I found everything here different from what we usually see in the media. Palestine is completely safe, and I never once felt unsafe. The center also organised day trips to refugees camps in Hebron and Bethlehem, where I had the chance to know about refugees' living conditions and listened to many stories. I also had the opportunity to learn the Arabic language with my amazing teacher Mohammad, who has a distinctive and wonderful style, and I really improved my Arabic. "Momtaz" was my favourt word btw as my teacher used to say it to me every time I say or write something correctly. My volunteer journey was an amazing experience that will remain in my memory forever thanks to all the people at Go Palestine who helped me and was there when I needed them. I highly recommend traveling to Palestine and joining the Go Palestine's fabulous programs. Don't think twice!

My name is Allie, and I am a graduate student studying Media Studies in the United States. My time working with the Palestine Center in Hebron has been exceptional. For three months, I have worked at the center. Because of my extended trip, I was able to participate in several of the Palestinian Center’s programs, including the Media Program, the Conflict Resolution Program, and the Palestinian Refugee Program. I am very thankful to be able to gain a more holistic view of the reality in Palestine through each of these programs. For the programs, we met with experts in each field and conducted field visits to relevant organizations in and around the city of Hebron. We work for five days each week at the center and have two days off per week. Though the week is scheduled ahead of time, it is common for plans to fall through or need to be rearranged, so I encourage all potential volunteers to be flexible! I have learned to embrace a “go with the flow” attitude here. I took weekly Arabic lessons and taught English a few times each week. My students were engaged and quick to learn and always came to class excited. My Arabic teacher was highly educated and spoke fluent English and we became very good friends! I was invited to speak at a university in Bethlehem at a media conference. I attended cultural symposiums and movie screenings all over the West Bank. I ate amazing food (my favorite Palestinian dish is maklouba) and gorged myself on kunafa (the best dessert in the world). I learned so much about Palestinian culture and was able to talk at length to my students, professors, and others about culture exchange. I want to emphasize how safe Hebron is. I never once felt fearful or threatened and as a woman, I was comfortable walking around the city by myself, even at night. Though you often hear of clashes in the news, I never felt threatened as a tourist in Hebron nor anywhere else in Palestine. Furthermore, Palestinians are extremely welcoming and love to meet tourists. I have been invited to many peoples’ homes for dinner, which has allowed me to integrate more deeply into Palestinian culture and lifestyle. Everyone who works at the center is incredibly kind and welcoming. Meeting volunteers from all over the world was exciting. We frequently had group dinners at the center and became so close that we celebrated my birthday together as well. I am so sad to be leaving the center but entirely sure that I will come back soon to see my Palestinian friends here! I highly recommend volunteering at the Palestinian Center in Hebron!

My experience with the Palestine center was one of the most fulfilling experiences I have done in my many years of travelling. Whilst, I was here I was able to help teach school children in a refugee camp essential English skill that could really change the course of their future. The center was also great in preparing visits in our free time to see other cities in Palestine and they exhibited a real interest in ensuring everyone who stays with them has a robust experience with regards to the culture and the amazing food that exists in the country. I, like many, had some trepidation before travelling to Palestine and Hebron. However, after arriving at the center, my thoughts on safety could not have been further from the truth. The people in Hebron are so accommodating and kind, as well as the center putting a great emphasis on the safety of those who stay at the center. I regularly would go out in the city at night and not have any fear of my safety given how amazing the hospitality and virtue of the Palestinian people was. I would highly recommend anyone who has ever thought about visiting Palestine and the West Bank to definitely consider the center as it was one of the best decisions I have made in my life and made for a fulfilling and eye opening experience

Hi, my name is Marco, I'm 21 years old, I'm an History student at the Florence university in Italy and I'm about to graduate. My experience in Hebron, in particular at the Palestinian Center, was very very beautiful, we do a lot of things, from visit the local Expo to visit the entire old city with all of this important sites like the Ibrahimi Mosque or the market. We met a lot of human rights associations and so we met a great amount of beautiful people, workers, students, employee. We make a lot of friends in Hebron, from the Cultural Symposium to simple shop's owner. The main tasks that we have in the center is to teach English to other people's and try to learn arabic trough lesson and very good teacher's. We also went to Aida camp( suburbs of Bethlehem now) and little village called Fawwar (after 1948 used to be a tent camp) in south of Hebron. There was a very strong but important experience. I recommend to all the people. I liked a lot the palestinian culture, the food and traditional clothes above all. I'm felt very safe in Palestine and in Hebron too, when we go around with the people of the center or with the friends that we make, we felt like at home, i think that the major danger came from the occupants,they carry a lot of weapons, they do a lot of control and check so this make me felt unsecure. I recommend this type of journey, of experience ,at the people from all over the world, here In Palestine and in with the people of Palestinian center too. Is a very good way to try the palestinian life, culture, way of life. Is a perfect experience to learn about a far culture(for me that I'm italian) like this.

A beautiful experience in every aspect. I made a 3 week internship in Human Rights and Refugee. The main thing I want to say is that these programmes helped me a lot both for university and for my future job: I highly improved my networking, found good datas and experiences for my final thesis at university and many other things. We went to several refugee camps, we visited the Hebron Food Expo, we visited every corner of Hebron and improved my arabic (starting from zero!). I just want to say there more things: 1) People here are very friendly. I met A LOT of new friends and, as a very shy person, I can tell you that you won't struggle to meet new people 2) Safety: Hebron and West Bank in general are very safe places for foreigners. Both Palestinian and Israeli people are very friendly and open. Our internship happened during both Yom Kippur and the anniversary of Intifada, so a period considered to be risky, but neither me or my friend ever felt uncomfortable or at risk in any way. Soldiers were helpful and never harrassed any of us, so trust me: it's a totally safe esperience 3) The Center itself Is very good: good breakfast, good personnell (thank you Manar!), available for everything you might need. In the end, you will receive experience, skills, networking and a TON of Memories.

I am a 49 year old trial attorney with over 20 years experience defending the rights of the accused which recently has included people from the Levant including Palestine. Prior to this program I studied Fusha (MSA) for two years and studied the Egyptian Dialect in Cairo for 2 weeks with some travel to Jordan and Jerusalem. My program was only for two weeks but I wish it would have been longer. During this brief time, Mohammad Tamimi coordinated trips to Fawwar Refugee Camp, Masafer Yatta, Umm al-Khair, Women’s Studies Center, Palestinian Courts (Hebron and Halhool), Hebron Delegation of the Red Cross and Ibrahimi Mosque. Breakfast was provided every morning with Um Mohannad making fresh Zaatar bread with falafel and hummus. Mohammad Aburumoooz was an awesome arabic teacher providing daily lessons of the Palestinian Dialect. Prior to the trip I had questions and Mutaz Tamimi answered them via zoom calls. On my last day in Hebron, I was having some difficulty finding a taxi in Hebron due to the empty streets during the celebration of Eid al-Adha. Thankfully at the last minute I texted Mohammad Tamimi via Whatsapp and with short notice he was able to have a taxi pick me up at my flat. In short, I highly recommend this program for their professionalism and knowledge of the community.

Hi. My name is Jack McGrath. I am 28 years old and from Ireland. I am currently a teacher of English and History in Dubai. I participated in "Go Palestine" program for 3 weeks this Summer. During my time at the "Go Palestine" Centre, I participated in a wide variety of teaching in the West Bank area. These included, teachers that needed extra help in speaking English and students doing Summer camp. Further from this, I also visited many areas around the city. These include, a visit to Hebron villages around the city, to Bethlehem, refugee camps and the Old city of Hebron itself. These trips allowed me to further educate myself of the current political situation as well as gain a greater appreciation for Palestinian history and culture. During my time at the Centre I studied Arabic from an excellent teacher called Mrs. Shurook. She was incredibly encouraging and supportive. She was able to tailor the lessons to my needs of a student. Were we able to go at my pace due to it being a one on one lesson. I really enjoyed the environment at the Go Palestine Centre. The staff are all very nice and instantly make you feel pat of the community. I was also able to make strong friendships with many of the other volunteers due to our shared interests in Palestine.

Hi, my name is Cathal, I am 27 years old and from Ireland. Earlier this year I decided to partake on the Human Rights and Conflict program for two weeks in Hebron – Palestine. I am currently a student at Queens University Belfast studying International Relations and Conflict Studies. It made so much sense to apply for an internship with GO Palestine regarding my study field however for long Ireland has held strong solidarity with the Palestinian struggle for freedom while under its current occupation. Therefore, it was essential I traveled to Palestine to gain an on the ground experience of the struggle and of course experience the famous warm hospitality. My experience in Hebron and at the Palestinian center has been excellent. On arrival I was greeted with open arms and throughout my duration of stay closely cared for. Hebron is a city that never sleeps which if fantastic as there is much to see and much to do. The hustle and bustle of the city will keep you entertained and will most importantly will make you feel at home with the hospitality. My days in Hebron consisted of meeting Human Rights Organizations, Refugee Camps, Field Visits and local craft businesses. I also got to experience at first hand the daily struggles Palestinians face from checkpoints and the physical presence of armed occupation. Safety is the centers number one priority and as an international visitor they are aware of the probable concern that will exist. I will be honest and say that of course I was anxious but my nerves where soon settled by the organization, from the center staff and the many local Palestinians. I know this matter will be first and foremost highly thought of as a travelling international but please be reassured that you will be safe. Fun is to be had in Palestine with trips to Ramallah and Bethlehem but you will stay most of your time in Hebron. Hebron’s culture is vivid with socializing being at the heart of it. I have made strong friendships over the two weeks with other internationals but also amazing local Palestinians that have kept me entertained to the max which I am entirely grateful for. I am writing this two week review although already planning my next trip to Palestine but next time will be for longer. The experience is rewarding and will of course enhance my political aspirations. Please do not think twice about applying at GO Palestine as I did not. There is much to see! Apply now!

My name is Lillian, and I am from America. I am in my third year of university at the Pennsylvania State University, where I am in a dual-degree program pursuing a Bachelor of International Politics and a Masters of International Affairs at the same time. My primary focus in Middle Eastern Politics. I’ve really enjoyed my time at the Palestinian Center for Education and Cultural Exchange in the Human Rights Internship program. In the morning, we always eat breakfast together at the center. The food is incredible. It’s also a really great time to catch up with everyone at the center, since some of us are in different programs or in the same program but with different schedules. After breakfast, we visit an organization related to human rights, such as the Independent Commission on Human Rights, or a family. We learn about topics ranging from the everyday life for Palestinians living near Israeli settlers to the treatment of Palestinian prisoners. After the morning visit, we return to the center to teach English to Palestinian students for around 2 hours. The students are nice, and they’re usually super excited to practice English with a native speaker and learn about life in other countries. The international participants all have lunch together after the classes. There are a lot of great restaurants on Ain Sara Street, so we usually wander around a bit and eat somewhere new every day. After lunch, I always have Arabic class. My teacher Nadine is amazing and customizes our lessons to fit my interests and goals. On Monday, we usually have a day trip. My first week, we spent the day in Bethlehem. This week, we went to the Al Aroub refugee camp. I would absolutely recommend coming to Hebron! Despite everything I had heard in the media about the West Bank, I’ve never felt unsafe here. The people are incredibly welcoming. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been invited for coffee or tea after just meeting someone. Everyone has a story and wants to practice their English and hear what you think about Hebron. I can’t wait to hopefully come back in the future!

My time in Palestine with Go Palestine was full of events, food and culture. From waking up daily and eating fresh falafels and hummus, to the trips and places visited daily. The English lesson I had given are very open based and you are very free to teach comfortably. Mr. Mohammad, one of the gentleman responsible for this organization, had planned daily activities after the lessons. I had experienced the Ibrahimi mosqus and the shrines in it, the Old Hebron city, refugee camps, bowling and arcade, Herbawi Kuffyieh factory, Bethlehem and more! Lastly, I would 100% recommend anyone thinking about going to Palestine through this organization, to do so. Do not let the media fool you on the safety on Palestine, I felt like I was between my family during my stay, and I’m looking forward to going again soon!

Do not recommend!! The Palestinian Center for Education and knowledge exchange in Hebron, owned by the manager Mohammed Saleh Tamimi and his son, the international coordinator Motaz Tamimi (currently in Germany) are NOT the right place for international students and I strongly discourage you to get involved with this center!! Having planned a conflict internship for three months in Hebron, Motaz had promised me a hostfamily, Arabic lessons, local visits and a 36-hour a week full internship program with "conflict experts, history academics, political academics, number of NGO, refugee centers etc". However, from my first day at the Centre there was NOTHING planned. Zero meetings, zero activities, an entire empty schedule for three months. The hostfamily was not a hostfamily, but I stayed at the (unclean) apartment of his father who is also the manager. The Centre as well is extremely dirty and unhygienic with on occasion even being provided with products that had passed their date. The only local visit I got was to the Old Town which is an easy 10-min walk from the Center and very much possible on your own. Hence you should have to pay for that separately. In terms of the internship, nothing had been taken care of. Not before my arrival and not during my arrival. There was not even a list with organisations or experts and Motaz told me that there are no conflict experts in Palestine (even though it says so in the website and he repeatedly mentioned this to me before). Rather, they had no idea what a conflict internship truly entails and just try to get money from students without giving anything in return. His father even made me pay for transport and a museum that should have been included in the price. Even after repeated conversatios with Motaz in which he in detail promised me several educational activities and meetings, none of those came true. He lied in my face and after quitting my internship (that did not exist in the first place) even threathened me that I breached the contract and I got into a legal battle afterwards in order to get my money back. His father, Mr Mohammed, even tried to take me as an intern to the Israeli terrirory in which people were being attacked with teargas. The Palestinian Center for Education and knowledge exchange in Hebron used to work together with the Excellence Center, also in Hebron. After their split in 2020, they both went their own ways. However, according to several individuals and human rights organisations located in the area, both Centers have been active in fraudulent activities by promising international students formal, professional and active internships but not at all delivering on those promises. Students are being pushed as 'English teachers' instead of conflict or human rights interns. Eventually I stopped my internship after 3 weeks instead of 3 months and eventually got only part of my money back. Therefore, my honest opinion is that the management of this Centre are liars and frauds. They exploit international students and take advantage from them both financially and practically by pushing them to become English teachers. I would strongly discourage any student to do any internship within this Centre.

I had a great opportunity to study Shami Arabic online with Go Palestine. Scheduling the classes with my lovely teacher has been easy and pleasant. All in all, I very much appreciate the teacher appointed to me, her knowledge and passion for the Arabic language, and all that she gave me. She labored on written materials just for me which is exceedingly generous. I appreciate her teaching methods and am filling in some blanks and reinforcing basics I had acquired in Fus'ha, and now applied to Shami dialect. Studying Shami Arabic with Go Palestine was such a joy. I am thankful for what they and their teachers provide!

Hello, My name is Lamont and I'm from the USA. I came to Hebron, Palestine to volunteer in the West Bank with Go Palestine and the Excellence Center. Some of the activities I engaged in included: teaching English, visiting the Hebron glass factory, the Hirabaw scarf factory and the Old Town garden area. In addition, I started learning the Palestinian dialect of Arabic and we handed out dates to the locals during the early days of Ramadan. Both centers are staffed with good knowledgeable teachers and everyone is very nice. I visited the Old Town, Ibrihimi Mosques (Cave of the Patriarchs) and several other sites as well. I felt totally safe in Hebron, i walked just about everywhere and the weather was moderate and the food is amazing, especially the chicken shawarma and falafel. I had a really good experience and would love to visit again. GO PALESTINE!!! Thank you.

My name is Victor Hugo Calero, I am 20 years old and I am from Ecuador. Actually I am studying Law at Universidad de las Américas in Quito, thats why I chose the Lawyers in Palestine Program organized by the Palestinian center (Go Palestine) for engage with the Palestinian legal system and be able to expand my knowledge while learning another language and a different culture. At the Palestinian Center I was able to experience the Palestinian language, history, food, culture and friendship with all the members of the center that help me in everything I need. During my internship I met Palestinian lawyers that explained me the way laws work in Palestine and the limitations and challenges they faced with the Israeli occupation. Also I was able to visit Hebron University and the Law College, there the teachers explained me the unique history of Palestinian laws since the otoman periodo until the Palestinian Authority laws. They exposed me the difficulties with the ones Palestinian universities have to deal with, specially the law students and teachers that come to Hebron. After the College I visited the court in Hebron were a lawyer explained me how the procedures work, then we went to a Law firm for learn about the difficulties and human rights violations Palestinians have to face, specially moving around Palestine. Finally I went to a NGO that help women defend their rights, then I went to a refugee camp near Hebron were I learned about the refugee situation and how the Un help improving their situation. I also received Arabic classes were I learned the Palestinian dialect and pronunciation. The Palestinian culture surprises you since the moment you arrived, they are friendly with anyone and would help you in everything they can. In my opinion Palestine is safer than many Latin American countries. In Hebron I didn't experience any violence and I feel safer than in Israel. I recommend visit Palestine and join the programs at the Palestinian center for be able to understand the reality of Palestinians and engage with this amazing culture.

I am a twenty-two year old female from America. I study International Relations and French in the United States. I came to Palestine briefly in the beginning of the year and really loved it. I knew that I needed to return, but I wanted to stay in a capacity larger than just tourism—to be truly engrained in the culture and way of life here.That is why I chose the Palestinian Center’s Law Program. It allowed me to stay with a host family, live like a Palestinian, and meet local people every day. The Law Program truly opened my eyes to what life is like under the occupation and how Palestinian law operates underneath Israel’s control. I was able to meet with many different lawyers, go to court, attend classes in the College of Law at the University of Hebron, and meet with many different human rights organizations. In addition, if there was anything else that I was interested in doing, the Palestinian Center (Go Palestine) was very happy to organize it for me. I toured two different hospitals and traveled to Nablus, Ramallah, and Bethlehem with the Center’s help. The kindness of the Palestinian people exceeded expectations—everyone I met ensured that I felt welcomed and content. Everyone would drop everything to help me or assist me in anyway. I felt very, very safe in Palestine, and especially Hebron. I recommend this program to absolutely anyone interested in Palestinian law and Palestinian life in general.

As a circus artist i had the chance to come around Hebron and the small villages around it and make shows and workshop for many children. I always had somebody from Palestinian center with me and felt useful and safe. I would not have the chance to do it on my own. The workers from the center were professional and flexible all the time with a smile on their face. I felt they treated me with respect and honor. I learned a lot about the Palestinian people. How they live, what they eat, how they have fun and most important why and what they are fighting for on a daily basis. I only wish i could do more..

I am not really good in writing long reviews :P What I want to say that I would recommend this program to all who want to come and visit Palestine. Everything was amazing, I really had a great time teaching English and involving in many educational and social activities organized by the Palestinian center. It was a lovely time in Hebron!

I am Adriana, 22 years old from Porto in Portugal. Palestine was the first place I traveled to out of Europe. Palestine wasn't actually on my travel plan, I was thinking of going to Japan or Malaysia but a friend of mine "Bárbara" who volunteered in Hebron three months ago told me about her experience there and how she loved this country and its people, at the end she succeeds to convince me : My parents were a bit worried about me going there, they thought that my life would be in danger but according to my experience, Palestine is very safe, I never felt unsafe all my internship period. I joined "The Palestinian Culture Program" organized by Go Palestine in Hebron. I have met many Palestinians, especially families and talked to them and asked them about their daily habits and traditions. Also, I had the chance to cook a Palestinian meal called "Kosa Mahshi", I was happy to learn how to make it and it tastes delicious. I took Arabic classes at the center. At the beginning it a bit hard to understand but from the second class everything was clear, and it was great coz I tried to use what I learned with Palestinians where sometimes it was hard to remember how do I say my name or my age: P I would recommend volunteering or interning in Palestine and especially in Hebron and yes, I'll come back next year inshallaaaaaaah! My name is Antonio, I am from Italy. Two weeks ago, I was volunteering in Palestine at the Palestinian center (Go Palestine), the experience without any doubt was amazing and I had great times there. At the beginning I was hesitated to travel to Palestine because of what you heard from the news and you saw in the Tv but after I came, my opinion changed totally. Palestine is a very unique country and its people OMG they are very friendly which I really felt home while I am there. I joined volunteer with Palestinian children program for one month, I had fun times with the kids where I was teaching them English and I loved being with them and play with them. The Palestinian center's staff helped me a lot especially Mss. Ahlam whom I was teaching the kids with, she was very friendly and helped me with the material and organizing the activities as well. I also learned Arabic during my time there with my great teacher Isaac who always active in the class, my favorite word so far in Arabic is "Jameel" which means beautiful! I will definitely come back again! Love Palestine! :)

I'd traveled for a month through the middle east exploring the history of civilisation with my daughter who's studying anthropology. As two white females this had had some challenges. We came to Palestine and were met by nothing but good will, and genuine open hearted welcome. The political and lived experience of the Palestinians is difficult but the people are so open and warm and friendly, genuinely glad that someone has come to visit them and see their country. Staying with a host family was a new experience for us but now I'd recommend it and definitely do it again. It was such an opportunity to learn and connect with people and a welcome change from a hostel or hotel room. We had the opportunity to live and see how they live. Staying with a family and meeting their extended family was so much fun. We only had a few days but if you can, spend a couple of weeks, it's an amazing thing to do.
