Established in 1998 by Dr. Carrie Manfrino, Central Caribbean Marine Institute (CCMI) is a nonprofit organization aimed at coral reef protection. We hope to create a bright future for coral reefs, which are vibrant ecosystems that house numerous fish species. We carry out research, education, and conservation to achieve our goal: to better understand why coral reef ecosystems have declining health and how we can make them more resilient. We hope to establish protective strategies and advocate realistic solutions to help lessen major threats brought about by humans.
For anyone wishing to take part in our mission, we have various education programs offered at the Little Cayman Research Centre. We also partner with corporations, institutions, and private donors to fund our projects. These include research, conservation, education and outreach, volunteering, and facilities expansion.
