Program Overview

Based at Central Caribbean Marine Institute's Little Cayman Research Centre, Caribbean Marine Ecology Camps (CMEC) are perfect for high school students (14-18) who want to build their love of nature.

The camp introduces students to tropical marine biology, ecology, and conservation at one of the world’s most beautiful coral reefs. It offers a unique opportunity to participate in valuable hands-on scientific research while having fun and exploring the beautiful island of Little Cayman.

In this week long immersion, students dive, snorkel, and explore a pristine reef system with CCMI scientists and educators! Students stay at the Little Cayman Research Centre, a remote field station and learn from an expert team of marine biologists and educators. Campers earn a certificate of completion for attending the CMEC to add to their CVs as well as a real insight into the industry.

CMEC's activities include (but are not limited to): snorkelling and scuba diving, beach clean up, lionfish dissection, classroom lectures (fish identification, coral ecology & threats, marine pollution, coral restoration...), bonfire, visit to the Little Cayman Museum and National Trust.

Students spend their days out in the water and on the beach, applying the knowledge they learn in the classroom and undertaking challenges - all while making friendships and memories for life!

Divers and non-divers are accepted into the programme. Local scholarships are awarded annually!

Camp 1: 3rd - 9th July 2027
Camp 2: 7th - 13th August 2027
