Active Volunteers Abroad (AVA) was established under “Land Is Life”, a registered Cambodian NGO and a leading volunteer organization, governed by an international Board of Directors and senior leadership from the United States, Sweden, the Philippines, and Cambodia, with over 20 years of combined experience in the sector and the trust of more than 4,000 volunteers.
Founded in 2021, AVA works against terrorism, human trafficking, child abuse, and other illegal activities. We offer volunteer abroad programs starting at just US$22 per day, with inclusions such as accommodation and year-round placements from 2 to 24 weeks. We operate in 18 destination countries across Asia: Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Bangladesh, India, the Philippines, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Timor Leste, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Mongolia.

How does the application and placement process work?
The process is simple:
- Complete our online Volunteer Membership Registration.
- Our team reviews your application and matches you with a suitable placement.
- You receive a welcome package with full program details.
- You join your host community.
The process typically takes 2–4 weeks from application to confirmation.
How does AVA ensure volunteer safety and well-being?
Volunteer safety is our top priority. AVA follows a comprehensive Health, Safety, and Risk Management Policy. All placements are with vetted partner organizations, and participants receive a full pre-departure briefing. We maintain a safeguarding policy and codes of conduct for all volunteers, staff, and partners, and our team is available for support throughout your placement.
