What inspired you to travel abroad?

I googled “good internship providers” online and came across GoAbroad. I was impressed by the reviews which made the information transparent. This is why I chose GoAbroad, because I believe in the reviews of the big community of students who went abroad.

Why did you choose FPT Corporation

There is a compulsory internship at my university. However, I chose to go abroad because I want to broaden my horizon and open new perspectives, as well as leverage my global competencies.

What was your favorite part about Vietnam?

The beautiful coastal cities. Vietnam has such a long coastline, which creates the unique and unforgettable beauty and experience while staying in this country. Fresh and good food are also a remarkable thing!

What made your experience abroad extraordinary?

The people. The people here are very friendly and open-minded. They love the nature and they love freedom. I was most impressed by those students and the fishermen I met, who were so passionate about their work and who are all in pursuit of simple happiness. They gave a whole new point of view about my life purpose.

How did the local program staff support you throughout your program?

They designed a facilitation program in supplement with the main internship program. Besides my job at the company, I was also involved with a wide range of interesting activities to connect with other interns from other countries, as well as a space to reflect on what I learned and to review my experience.

What's one thing you wish you would have done differently during your time abroad?

I should have visited more places. Maybe I should’ve rented a motorcycle, learned how to drive it, and drove myself to every destination nearby. I should’ve explored more of the beauty of Vietnam.

Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.

I woke up at 8:00 a.m. and started working at 9:00 a.m. The company is in the same building as my accommodation, which was a great perk. Lunch was prepared by local staff; therefore, food was all fresh and well-cooked. In the afternoon, I usually had meetings with the company's partners (I would actually assist the manager in preparation for the meeting). In the evening, I had free time to spend on myself—relaxing on the beach or running on Son Tra mountain.

What did you enjoy doing in your free time abroad?

I enjoyed hanging out with local friends and enjoying good food.

What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?

I lived in an apartment with a friend. The accommodation was near my work location, clean, and tidy.

What is one thing every future participant should know about your program before their program begins?

They should budget for extra meals because the street food here is really great and they won't be able to resist spending on them.

Would you recommend FPT Corporation to others? Why?

Yes. They offer the facilitation program which is a good perk. This helped me to embrace the internship, the experience, and all the challenges I had to face.

What do you feel the biggest benefit of traveling abroad is?

Perspective. Different countries and different cultures might have different ways of viewing things. With an open mind, I can explore a lot more ways to solve problems, and most importantly, to define the real problem.

Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life?

The internship has shaped my career and passion. I now know what I need to do to become the person I aspire to be, not what others want.

What does meaningful travel mean to you?

Every traveling experience is meaningful and impactful. The thing is, you need to spend time reviewing it and actively learn from the experience.
