PremierTEFL’s live teaching program, based in a variety of exciting destinations across Colombia, is one of the most unique ways to secure your first teaching position abroad. After two decades of rapid regeneration, South America has become THE place for TEFL teachers. With international tourism on the rise, and an ongoing drive to build a bilingual Latin America, the need for fluent English speakers in Colombia is at an all time high.

You’ll need to be ready to start your new life with June and January departure dates. Once you’re fully trained as a TEFL teacher, you’ll get an airport pickup in Bogota; from here, you’ll get a taste of traditional Colombian hospitality with an introduction to life in Colombia, the do’s and don’ts of Colombian culture, banking, transport and logistical information, cultural orientation, safety training and Colombian teaching methodologies. After your full two week orientation in the country’s capital of Bogotá D.C., and once you’ve settled into Colombian life, your real adventure can begin!

This one-of-a-kind teaching experience is based in public schools in a variety of Latin American locations such as Armenia, Barranquilla, Cali, Cartagena, Dosquebradas, Envigado, Floridablanca, Girón, Itagüí, Manizales, Neiva, Pasto, Rionegro, Santa Marta, Tunja or Villa de Leyva. Here, you will spend 25 hours a week teaching a mix of children, teenagers and adults in classes of between 25-35 students. During your time as a teaching fellow, you will teach between 6-8 classes in total, with different Colombian co-teachers, and encourage the confident use of spoken English.

And for life outside school, your monthly stipend of 1.5 Million Colombian Pesos (COP) can be spent however you like; whether you visit ancient colonial communities or historic archaeological sites, it won’t be hard to see to see why Colombia is fast becoming a TEFL favorite. Plus, as your first month’s accommodation, visa sponsorship and completion bonus of 500,000 Colombian Pesos (COP) are included in this live teaching experience package, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to sample real Colombian culture.

Your home for the next 5, 6 or 11 months plays host to every South American wonder imaginable. The largest economy in South America, Colombia boasts modern appeal and a traditional feel — the perfect destination for wanderlust-stricken TEFL teachers who crave an authentic cultural experience in positively pulsating cities and towns. Whether it’s the gorgeous coastlines of the Caribbean that call your name or the free weekends for endless exploring, it’s the best opportunity to experience the ‘real’ Colombia.

Now then — ready to say ‘si por favor’ to the Colombia live teaching experience?

If you are:

  • A fluent English speaker
  • A degree holder in any discipline
  • 21-55 years old
  • TEFL qualified
  • Culturally sensitive
  • Community minded
  • A holder of international insurance (assistance provided)

…then PremierTEFL would love to hear from you! You don’t need a second language, any previous teaching experience, or even native English to apply (native-level proficiency is welcome). But a passion for Latin American cuisine, hot summer sun, and rich culture is preferable.
