My Pure Exploration experience was one for the books.
January 04, 2025by: Sam GutteridgeIf you are scrolling through the Pure Exploration website and upon just reading about the experience think you’re going to have, makes you excited - then honestly do whatever you need to do and book onto a program. My Pure Exploration experience was one for the books, the people you meet, the in-jokes you'll have, the country culture you get to live and learn about are just some of the things the program offers you. To top if all off with a great support team and gaining real quality outdoor instruction that you can take either into your life or job, I did it and it was one of the best things I've ever done, so why not!
I truly hope that all the students or workers who feel stuck or unhappy about their degree or work come to nepal and try this course.
December 12, 2024by: Sara-Éve GuimonI originally did this program because I had no idea of what I could do. I finished school with a degree I came to hate, I started another degree just to try something else. I was unhappy and confused about my future. Then I heard about Pure exploration. I gave it a shot because at this point I just needed to be outside and do some outdoor stuff. Now, with what I learned about myself and the experiences I gained, I have a list of things I want to do to reach my dream job, that is not related to guiding by the way. And I wouldn't know about my dream job if I didn't do the program. Our Nepalese guides are amazing resources and I learned so much from them. I truly hope that all the students or workers who feel stuck or unhappy about their degree or work come to Nepal and try this course.
Whirlwind knowledge and hands-on experience
December 11, 2024by: Kmegabith WilberforcePure Exploration was one of the best decisions of my life. Going to Nepal and learning the skills to rock climb, provide outdoor wilderness first aid, participate in a river course and hike and camping all in 3 months was such a whirlwind knowledge and hands-on experience. Meeting the team and all the friends I made along the way was the cultural emersion I was thirsting for. If you are even playing with the idea of doing one of these courses I would say - jump in, do it now
One of the best experiences of my life
December 11, 2024by: Jo TimberlakeThis was one of the best experiences of my life. I was supported through physical and mental challenges by a spectacular team that only wanted me to succeed, and I did that and more. I learnt both technical and soft skills to become an outdoor leader, and learnt so much about myself and how I interact with others so I can better communicate and manage group situations, but as a leader and a participant.
I can not recommend this program enough
May 14, 2024by: Sam PhaneufFor any adventure seekers interested in honing their skills in the mountains of Nepal I can not recommend this program enough. If you’re a first-time climber, climbed sport for years, have done minimal camping in the backcountry, or are an ultralight long-distance trekking professional this program has everything you need to upskill in any area that interests you.
Perfect program to start your career
May 14, 2024by: Paulina OjedaFor me, this is the perfect program to start your career in the outdoors, especially when you are not sure which direction to take. Here you can experience different sports or activities such as climbing, hiking and rafting and see what feels right for you. Also, you have the chance to challenge yourself and experience hard conditions
I personally learned a lot
May 12, 2024by: Robert KainThe Nepal program was an amazing experience in many ways, definitely challenging and educational at the same time. I personally learned a lot of new hard skills in the areas of climbing and hiking thanks to the great team of guides. I also gained experience in leadership and group management skills which will be very useful in the future.
A full immersion lifetime experience
May 09, 2024by: Anja ZehetgruberA full immersion lifetime experience not to be missed by those with a nomadic spirit who seek to engage in and learn about diverse outdoor activities, safety, leadership and personal growth as well as culture, people and places in a country so diverse, rich and beautiful like it's people. I can not think of anyone better than Amrit and his experienced, professional and genuine team of people who taught and shared with us over the past 3 months.
Nepal is a demanding program
May 07, 2024by: Franziska HoellNepal is a demanding program, both physically and psychologically. Therefore, I strongly recommend that you prepare in advance if you decide to do this program. You will experience and learn in breathtaking environments, spend most nights in shared tents in stunning areas, make friends from different parts of the world, immerse yourself in the simple way of life and learn a lot through action and experience.
I had the chance to gain more experience
May 01, 2024by: Giorgis KatsanevakisBy participating in this program I had the chance to gain more experience in instructing and guiding. Also giving advice to the other students on beginner techniques made me a better climber and better teacher!
Life-changing experience
April 04, 2024by: Sam HarrisLife-changing experience. Education and adventure at the same time. Perfect if you want to be a mountain guide or adventurer. Also perfect if you just want to do something epic and prove to yourself that you can do hard things.
The best part of the program...
April 04, 2024by: Antonio TriasThe best part of the program is that as a person that likes mountains and cultures, the Himalayas are just different from anywhere else, it's complicated geography makes it one of the most diverse places culture wise and the mountains are just fantastic.
Incredible Cultural Emersion and Exploration
December 14, 2023by: Kelty Parker - United StatesMy experience in Nepal was one of the best experiences of my life. I met people that will be lifelong friends and instructors that introduced me to one of if not my favorite place in the world. We were able to be with locals and learn about Nepali culture, I was introduced to Wilderness medicine which is now something I am pursue if as a profession. Throughout this trip we made bonds with each other over shared exploration, stunning views, and conversations over beers after long hikes. The landscape and moutains were remarkable. I wouldn’t trade this experience for the world and am grateful for our brilliant instructors and Pure Exploration.

Awesome volunteer program in Victoria Falls
June 30, 2022by: Cecilia Hugo - United StatesProgram: Worlds #1 Volunteer Programs. 40+ Countries from $20/day!
I volunteered at Nakavango in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, as part of the IVHQ Wildlife Conservation Project. It truly was one of the highlights of my life. And I’ve had some pretty remarkable experiences so that says a lot. The staff a Nakavango was incredible and extremely knowledgeable. They create the perfect balance of hard work and joyous moments playing with the children at Masuwe School, observing wildlife in the bush, and taking in the sights of one of the seven wonders of the world. We each had our own room, were provided three yummy meals a day with great care to accommodate those who have special diets. Highlights of my stay included morning and evening game drives, sitting around the fire pit under the stars, camping out in the bush, and completing a work task feeling that we had made progress on a project. Yet, the most outstanding aspect of this experience for me, was bonding with my fellow volunteers. Prior to arriving at Nakavango, I thought I’d be the senior member of the crew so I was a bit apprehensive even though I had worked for weeks to get in shape physically so I could contribute equally. Well, I wasn’t the most senior. In fact, we had a wonderful range of ages, nationalities, and personalities. We became a family, caring for and respectful of all. That truly blew me away. And now, we continue to stay in touch. I am so grateful for the IVHQ program at Nakavango. It changed my life!

Bali- Ubud
July 24, 2018by: Amy Reilly - United KingdomProgram: Worlds #1 Volunteer Programs. 40+ Countries from $20/day!
I volunteered in Bali- Ubud, through IVHQ. Bali was an incredible experience. I made life long friends, taught a class of 6th graders, and got to experience a beautiful new culture. The staff were amazing, and helped out all the volunteers with whatever needs they had. The location was beautiful, we were situated in a village 20 minutes outside the town of Ubud. This allowed us to integrate in a real Balinese community. The people (the volunteers, locals & staff) were second to none. I volunteered for five weeks- by the end of those 5 weeks I was wishing I had 5 more! The only downside to this programme is missing the children you taught and the friends you made after you leave! A member of the IVHQ team was on hand from the minute I booked the trip. She answered any questions I had, and checked in with m to make sure everything was going well during the volunteer programme. Volunteering with IVHQ in Bali was absolutely the best thing I ever done. I thoroughly recommend anyone interested in volunteering abroad to consider IVHQ Bali. You wont regret it.
Amazing experience!
June 18, 2018by: DeannaProgram: Worlds #1 Volunteer Programs. 40+ Countries from $20/day!
This was the best experience of my life! I have always wanted to travel and volunteer abroad and IVHQ made this so fun and easy. During the week we were able to volunteer and take in the experiences we wanted while leaving plenty of time to explore the country for the weekend. Highly highly recommend this organization if you want a new way to travel and give back.
Hi Deanna. Thanks for such an awesome review! Magic!
April 27, 2018by: Florence Carrier - CanadaProgram: Worlds #1 Volunteer Programs. 40+ Countries from $20/day!
I went to Cusco in June-July, for 5 weeks! I volunteered 3 weeks in a school with kids and 2 weeks in the zoo of the University. Both of programs was so much fun ! Just a little warning : don't accept the food at the school , the kid and the teacher can put some pression but it's important to say NO! I said yes and i've made an indigestion 2 hours after, for 5 days... nice ! Additionally, the staff is really amazing and always there if you need help! My host-family was really cool and we were 13 volunteers in the same house , so its easy to make activity with them during the evening! In perou, I've discover some wonderful people, amazing places, good food and a different culture! My best memories was to visit Plaza del Armas, the Macchu Picchu, rainbow mountain, moray, salt mines and the lake Titicaca during the weekend. The organisation American Inca Trail is a great staff to organize your tour! Finally, Just do it !
Hi Florence, It's nice to hear from you! It sounds like you had a wonderful experience across your projects and exploring the wonders of Peru. Thanks for your feedback and for being a wonderful volunteer. We hope you'll join us again in the future. ^Andrea - IVHQ Peru - Cusco Program Manager
My Himalayan semester
January 06, 2018by: Olivia - GermanyMy Himalayan semester was one of the best experiences I have ever had. From rural homestays to trekking in the Himalayas, it was full to the brim of adventure, community, culture and collaboration. My instructors were absolutely amazing as were my fellow Dragons students. The space that Dragons creates for self reflection and growth along with building an incredible group environment was something unique and awesome. On a trip like this it is expected that at one point or another you are pushed outside of your comfort zone. This was incredible because you end up watching your comfort zone expand and grow with you. Going from being a complete stranger and foreigner, lost in Kathmandu, to a confident traveler catching crowded busses and chatting to the person next to you in Nepali was incredible. One of the countless stunning moments on this trip was when I was sitting on a rock on a mountainside. It was near sunset we were at 13,000 feet of elevation, and the pinkish orange light of the setting sun began to creep across the massive peaks of the Himalayas in the Lang Tang region. I sat there, watching the sun dip down below the cloud layer, and was struck by the silence. No sound whatsoever penetrated that beautiful serene mountain air. It was almost like the world had frozen briefly. Stuck in that dusky state between day and night. The giant peaks only adding to the splendor, putting the size of humanity in its place yet again.
Physical therapy in Peru
August 20, 2017by: AMC - United StatesProgram: Worlds #1 Volunteer Programs. 40+ Countries from $20/day!
I was able to volunteer at a special needs orphanage in Lima, Peru. I helped the Physical Therapist do range-of-motion with the children. It was wonderful to get the kids out of their wheelchairs and help them loosen up and relax. The best was seeing smiles on their faces from just having more stimulation. I traveled on the weekends with the other volunteers. Such an awesome experience making memories with new friends. We went sand boarding in Huacachina, hiking in Huaraz, and exploring in Cusco and Machu Picchu.

July 14, 2017by: Nathan Dunn - CanadaProgram: Worlds #1 Volunteer Programs. 40+ Countries from $20/day!
My time in Madagascar was amazing! Could not have asked for a better 3 months. All the staff are all open and welcoming and the people are just the coolest! But yea either way would highly recommend!
