Gain exposure to the different languages, faiths, and cultures that create the living history across the Straits of Gibraltar from Morocco to Spain. This four-week summer abroad program is for students interested in exploring contemporary ties between North Africa and Europe while gaining valuable insights into Islam, migration, and the Arabic language. From Roman ruins to the sands of the Sahara, we follow the cultural crossroads linking North Africa and Europe. This multi-country program unveils new perspectives on the interconnectedness of our global community. It prompts discussions on human rights, colonial legacies, and religious traditions, all while building valuable language, leadership, and travel skills.
Program Highlights
Build fluency in Moroccan Arabic (Darija) with interactive formal and conversational classes 2-3 times per week.
Trek through the stunning Atlas Mountains, camping out under the stars while learning the importance of expedition behavior and principles of leaving no trace.
Try your hand at rug weaving, shoemaking, and stone or wood carving with the masters and students at the Artisan Centre in Azrou.
Discover the presence of Moorish influence in southern Spain through food, music, and art.
Participate in a tree reforestation project outside of Granada, Spain.
