Why choose Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam?

Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (‘VU Amsterdam’) was established in 1880 by Abraham Kuyper. The university had no interference from the state or church back then. This is very unique and still shapes VU Amsterdam to this day. VU Amsterdam has and will determine its own areas of research, by creating its own study programmes and practicing its own didactic methods, which resulted in 175 English-taught...

Despite the shortness of my stay (2 weeks), I am very happy with all the amazing things I have seen and learned, not to mention the wonderful people I have met. I would definitely recommend attending the VU Amsterdam summer school, as the program offered presents a perfect balance between the fun and the informative.

VU has really knowledgable professors and well thought out courses. I really enjoyed my time and I learned a lot. The social programs were also very nice and there was a lot to do. The one thing that could be improved would be that they did not provide transportation back to the airport for me when I was returning home.

VU: to learn and have fun

I attended to a two weeks International Criminal Justice course for summer. It not only comprised both, theoretical and practical fields, but also a wide range of professionals gave the lectures: defence lawyers, academics and a judge from the International Criminal Court (ICC). In addition, we traveled to The Hague and visited the Special Tribunal for Lebanon and the ICC, where we witness a hearing. I'm grateful with the teaches and the VU staff, because I learnt a lot and had a great time with the extracurricular trips and activities. Overall, the course helped me to grow further in my academic career, as well as to have the time to really know the city.
