Roots of Guatemala - Cultural Immersion Tour
Program Overview
Our Roots of Guatemala Tour is based in and around Quetzaltenango (Xela), an off-the-beaten-path highland city. Far from the typical tourist trail, this program offers an authentic cultural immersion grounded in community connection and local history.
Designed in collaboration with grassroots organizations and cooperatives, the tour introduces travellers to the people and projects shaping the region. Visit nearby villages, meet community leaders, and gain firsthand insight into social initiatives working toward sustainable change.
Throughout the journey, you’ll explore Guatemala’s complex history, from Indigenous heritage and traditions to the lasting impact of civil conflict. Conversations, workshops, and shared meals create space for meaningful cultural exchange and deeper understanding.
Enjoy scenic hikes to surrounding viewpoints, coffee farm visits, traditional cooking classes, and hands-on craft experiences. Each day blends learning with adventure, offering genuine relationships and perspectives most visitors never encounter.
Perfect for curious, socially conscious travellers seeking insight, authenticity, and a richer understanding of Guatemalan culture.
